i just joined a group of local photographers, the "louisville photography collective," if you're interested, you can view my page here. the group is all locals that run the gamut from beginner to hobbiest to amateur to pro, from commercial to wedding to art. a little bit of everything.

i've been thinking of joining for a while but didn't know how my work would match up. so last night, i kind of said "screw it" and just went thru my files and put up some random stuff. there is some beautiful work posted there, the best thing is it's kind of inspired & motivated me to get off my ass and get out there and see what i can do.

looks great, bill. good for you!

it's a tough decision to join those types of things... folks can be brutal and get so caught up in all of the technical talk. blah blah. smile.gif

and bruce... pretty pictures. that's where our hometown boy dave was married! beautiful place.

I've got a story behind this photo... I'll be sharing soon. smile.gif

Thanks, K. It was cold and cloudy this weekend, but it was nice picture takin' weather.

Good on you, Bill. Great shots that you've shared. You've got my vote as being talented enough to join and show. We don't have anything local, but I belong to a Kodak online site that has monthly challenges, etc. which keep me motivated as well.

Bruce ... great spring photos. I love, love, love the flowering pears, but they do stink!

Kylie, looking forward to hearing your story.

Thanks for sharing the pics everyone. They are always so nice.
Tulips and spring flowers!
I love all the spring ones, with real green- no brown. We're still a month away from all that, hopefully less,
as we finally got rid of all the snow the past few days. Can't wait for flowers.

I have not been on much here lately and it has been some time since I last posted up some pics--I just got back from a week long swing through the SE--spending some time in the Savannah area and down in Central Florida--here are a few highlight photos:

Some shots of El Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida

A boat at anchor just off the fort in the intracoastal waterway in St. Augustine

Some shots at north St. Augustine Beach

Sunset in the Smokeys in the Asheville, NC area:

Some items in the courtyard of a neat little gift shop in Mt. Dora, Fla.

More scenes from the Deep South:

River Street Savannah, Georgia:

Some Florida wildlife seen while taking a tour boat on Lake Dora and going through the Dora Canal to Lake Eustis--this area of Florida is about an hour to the northwest of Orlando

Departing the dock at Mt. Dora

In the canal

Bald Cypress trees and their "knees" from which they breathe

An adult American Bald Eagle parent guarding its nest

Some more shots in Mt Dora

I hope that everyone likes what I have posted up here tonight----everyone sure has been posting some incredible photos lately!!! Keep up the great work!!!

Great shots Bill--I love to take photos of places like those too--it looks like the Tivoli Theater has seen better and brighter days--I love old buildings of that type and I am always kinda sad to see that so many bulidings like that have fallen on hard times----I guess I am a bit nostalgic in that way---I wish that in the case of old places like that---"The Walls Could Talk"--I bet there would be some great stories to tell---I am sure there was a time that the Tivoli was a hoppin' place---like around the time of WWII---young men in their new uniforms heading out for war in Europe or the Pacific--some came back and some didn't---on a last date with their sweathearts---and for those who came back---a nice homecoming.

On the last cut of the first disc of Lyle Lovett's "Step Inside this House" where he did covers of those artists that served as friends and mentors in his musical career---is a song called "Rolling By"-I believe it was a Townes Van Zandt song----the song is about a town in Texas that was once vibrant and full of people that gets by-passed now thanks to the interstate.

It is kind of amazing to me as I take trips around the countryside at how many places there are in the country that are like that----like I said--they are kinda sad but they do make for some great photograhpic subjects.

Here is one theater from the era I bet the Tivoli came from that is still in good use--it's the Athens Theater in Deland, Florida:

thanks cher.

the top two are "st francis of assisi" here in louisville. i was driving down bardstown rd, i came around a corner and was almost blinded by the sun. as i looked ahead and the angle changed, this is exactly what i saw. i slammed on my brakes, pulled onto a side road jumped out of my car and grabbed my camera, metered, set and snapped these two pics before the sun dropped lower.

the last one is a church in terre haute. i was stuck @ a train crossing, looked out the window and saw the (wispy jet) contrail over the church, grapped my camera and got off this one shot off before it passed. i didn't even notice the bird on the left cross or that there is a little bit of detail on the one on the right until i posted it here. both fortunate accidents.

as i've said before...it's better to be lucky than good.

I often laugh and say basically the same thing, "I love happy accidents."

You know, for me, it's often a gut thing. I just know it works for me. Maybe not for anyone or everyone else, but for me. It feels right. And I know about getting out and getting that 1 or 2 shot(s) off before losing the light. I never realized just how quickly the sun & moon rises/sets until I began photographing them in earnest. Amazing.

Anyway, the thing I like best about getting 'into' photography is just how it has made me look at the world around me. Incredible.

Thanks again for sharing. Your photos always make me think and often smile.

This was an interesting thing that happened last summer at my lake cottage--I had gotten both parts of an old neon light working and the light apparently attracted the moth to light on the screen for many hours.

I took the photos in this post on a little spring Sunday afternoon roadtrip I took in my area yesterday. It was a glorious spring day.

The first photo was taken in Warren County:

I have decided that as I go up and down the highways and bi-ways of the land--when at all possible--I am going to stop and take photos of signs and other things people have put up of a religious nature. I have been thinking of doing so for a few months since I leafed through one of those nice photo collection books I had found one day at Joseph-Beth which was a collection of such photos. When I was on my recent trip down south and took a number of non-interstate roads---I saw many such scenes that would have made great photos--but if I had stopped for them--I would never have made it home!

The rest of these photos were taken in the small, quaint, quiet, picturesque Ohio River town of New Richmond, Ohio and the final two photos were taken near downtown Cincinnati.

Tina - those are GREAT!! I think you mentioned when you 1st got the camera (and I'm guessing it's what the number stands for) that it uses 120 film. Do you do your own processing? And, if you haven't checked, Amazon.com is a good place to find deals on large quantities of it. I've never looked for it on Ebay. I have a couple of Holgas (one flash - one non-flash) that I need to get out and play with some more). Of course, I may be wrong, and it's not a 120 film cam at all.

Anyway, you've got really good stuff here.

cher, yes it's a 120mm format camera, shoots 2 1/4" square images (negatives).
