Bill - I LOVE the Broadway shot. Way cool in both color and sepia.

i thought maybe i'd throw some photos in here, since i've been so damn quiet lately. this graveyard is next to one of the houses ray and i looked at. we have an offer in, but can't do anything until we sell our house (anyone wanna move to brewster?). some shots came out pretty cool ...

behind the house is a ny state forest preserve, with a 10 minute walk to the hudson. i could happily live here, for sure.

maybe one day i'll post more. i'm going a bit insane lately, though, so only hold your breath if you wanna pass out.
BlondeDynamite
WOW. That looks awesome. I would love to live there! Hope your house sells quick!

I lo-v-v-v-v-v-v-e #2. I like the way the iron fence is in focus and the stones in the background are soft and blurred. Very nice! Looks like a pretty old cemetery. Coolio!

That area looks really awesome--I have only been in the Hudson River Valley area a few times for short periods and that was a long time ago--but I do recall how gorgeous it is---I hope that things fall into place for you so you can move there--

Thanks for the great photos.

To Bill--I love the photos of the door and brickwall--I like to take photos of those kind of architectural details as well.

Way more than a "tad"--it was extremely hot around here---waaaayyyy too hot for October and its going to stay that way at least a few more days---it is something else.

I hope those pups had plenty of water---they may not have made it through sitting in that cage thanks to the heat!!

Sad and inhumane? How do you know Dusty? Sheesh...

Far be it from me to say what was happening with these guys, but it looks like they're hunting dogs on their way to or from the hunt (or somewhere). I could be way off base here, but many folks have a similar thing to haul their pups around in when hunting. Without getting into a big "thing", hunting dogs are some of the happiest animals I've ever seen and are rarely abused. If that photo makes you think that people are being inhumane to their animal, then come and get ME officer, because I cage my dog sometimes and sometimes he pants when he's hot. Go figure.

Having said all that, I'm hoping that the people in charge of these animals treat them well. If NOT, then put them in the same cell with that idiot Michael Vick!

And, btw, great photo Cher! biggrin.gif

John, let me just say that I am sorry we do not see eye to eye on this. I hope you don't take my comments personally. My heart goes out to those poor dogs confined to that hot black box with no ventilation, they are after all wearing full fur coats, and their combined body heat has to make it unbearable for them...

These are some photos I took a few weeks ago of a covered bridge in Brown County, Ohio--I had a few photos of the bridge posted before but kind of like these photos of some of the detail work of the bridge and figured I would post them too:

All of my recent photos have been taken with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8

PS--While the lettering on the sign stating the fine for damaging the bridge was faded and looked like $0--it did read $5,000--mpgarr

I agree Mark. I'm sorry we'll have to disagree here. I just don't see why one should assume that the "poor animals" are suffering in this photo. Now, if there were additional evidence, maybe.

Anyhoo... Although I believe you jumped the gun a good bit on this one photo, I respect your views Mark. Always will.

And keep taking those awesome photos everyone!

To SilentJane---in that one photo of the area on the Hudson where the water was low and the bottom was exposed--is that area tidal in nature or had the river level simply fallen?

They are beagles just in from a hunt. Keeping them confined within the cage as they are transported to and from hunting sites is way safer than letting them hang out in the open bed of the pick up. It's what they know. When they see the cage, they know just what's up and that they will soon be doing what they've been bred to do. Hunt! There was plenty of water for them, and they were quite excited. Their owners seemed to be decent fellas, and were glad to let me shoot some photos of the dogs.

For those of you apples from Cincinnati--there is a great photo contest going on being presented by CinWeekly and The Enquierer---it is coming down to its final days but there is still time to down load your photos.

This weekend--they have a weekend challenge to go out and about the Cincy area to take photos of fall activities--something that should be great since this weekend it will finally feel like fall and not the middle of July.

Their are some pretty cool prizes in this contest---I don't care about that--but I would like for at least one of my photos to make into the "coffee table" style book they are producing from a selection of photos selected by viewers.

Kylie Jo has a few of her great photos that should be included in the book---

I need people to both view and vote on my photos in order for any of my photos having a chance to make into the "greatest" catagory of their respective "chapters."

I would appreciate it very much if some of you could go take a gander at my photo gallery, vote on them and also ask your family and friends to do the same---

Address of my photos: http://www.capturecincinnati.com/people/mpgarr

Thanks to those who go check out my photos and vote on them---

I went out on a night time "photo safari" this weekend in Cincy and concentrated my efforts at capturing aspects of Cincinnati area nightlife, focusing on some of the more interesting neon signs in the area. Just a few highlights of my sojourn:

Just one of the very cool retro neon signs found on the exterior of The Brass Ass Lounge in Newport

Inside Johnny Rockets retro style eatery at Newport Landing

The Neon sign for The Blind Lemon in Mt. Adams

The narrow passageway leading to the Blind Lemon

Neon Sign announcing the porch area was open for The Mt Adams Bar and Grill

This weekend--I attend a fun two-day event--down "on the Banks of The Ohio" in a little place called Rabbit Hash, Ky---even though it's not all that far from Greater Cincinnati and is right across the river from Rising Sun, Ind. with one of its casinos--visiting Rabbit Hash is almost like steeping back in time about 40 or 50 years into the past.

The place has great history--the little settlement and the Rabbit Hash General Store date back to 1831--today a couple run the place and they have turned the complex of buildings that make sort of a local music and cultural mecca since they continually host many area musical acts that play music as diverse as blues, to blue grass, traditional country to Rock-A-Billy, Folk and contemporary music.

The male part of the couple, Richard Young has little or no insurance and he is battling a nasty form of cancer--which the fight as left he and his wife with enormous medical bills--

Somebody put on one hell of an event this weekend to help raise funds to help cut down those bills in some small measure.

As usual--I took a number of photos from both days---here are some highlights---the photos include the recurring themes of the weekend---music, having fun, family, kids, dogs and music---and of course the fundraising aspect of the event.

Time for some more photos----these are ones I took down in Estado Baja California Sur in the "Los Cabos" area of Mexico:

Two different sunrise scenes over the Sea of Cortez as viewed from the balcony of the condo I stayed in (photos taken on different days)

A sunset viewed from the balcony--the sun sets in the Pacific--and both sunrise and sunset can be seen from the patio of the condo--

One of a long line of potted plants along a wall of a the main building of the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Resort--a corner of my building can be seen at the far left.

A shot of most of the resort looking up from the beach

The building housing the condo--it is the second floor--my dad is up on the balcony eating his breakfast

One of the many "battle wagon" sportfishing boats heading out for the daily catch off Cabo San Lucas in the early morning:

The beach on the first morning I was there---the Pacific was still churning from a near miss of hurricane--but as the days went by---the seas got calm and still--I am glad to have been able to be there to catch such a dramatic scene:

Just one section of the harbor of Cabo San Lucas---home or host to many hundreds of some of the world's best fishing teams and their machines:

"Los Platos se vende"--Decorative plates for sale by a vendor along the walkway above the Cabo harbor

"Policia" directing traffic at an intersection in San Jose

Some scenes from another Los Cabos town---Todos Santos--about 60km from Cabo --- The"Hotel California" located in Todos is claimed to be the inspiration for the Eagles song. It has a great restaurant and gift shop. They do have nice rooms available--but you have to make reservations well in advance.

Ending a day with a view of "El Arco" or the Arch near the entrance of the harbor of Cabo San Lucas. This point of land marks the transition from the Sea of Cortez to The Pacific Ocean.

I will be posting my photos on either Flickr or Photobucket and will post that when I get to it---hope ya'all like this sampling. All photos shot with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 digital camera.
