Hi.
I've been waiting for someone else to review the Fort Wayne show, but I guess I'll do it.
The band consisted of only Linford and Karin. At first I was a little disappointed, but I should have known better! They're terrific in any combination. Here's the approximate set list:
Latter Days
I Want You to Be My Love
Born
Anything at All
Who Will Guard the Door
Etcetera Whatever
I'm on a Roll
Hush Now
June (a new arrangement)
Music You Don't Need (Title? Debuted in Fort Wayne!)
Seahorse
Summertime
Linford solo song from Unspoken Requests
Ohio (Karin solo)
Trouble
Drunkard's Prayer
(encore 1)
Orphan Girl
(encore 2)
Fever
My Love is a Fever
I'm not all that sure I placed 'Hush Now' where it appeared, but that's my best guess. Other songs may be a little out of place. Like I said, the list is approximate.
The venue was actually quite good. Most of us sat on plastic chairs, but they were comfortable. The sound was excellent! Whether Karin and Linford were talking, or Karin was singing at her loudest and mind-blowingest, it was all good. I was sitting at the back, and it was all crystal clear.
The crowd was pretty good, too. Over 200 people showed up, which was a lot more than I expected. And they were quite appreciative. At first they were a little quiet, but later on someone couldn't hold it back anymore and said "Mercy!" during some of the songs. Applause broke out at a particularly impressive bit of singing during Summertime, and the crowd gave Karin and Linford a standing ovation at the end of the regular set and after each encore.
The show, of course, was incredible! Both Karin and Linford were in great form. Linford sang backup on a couple of songs. There was also a fair amount of chatter between songs. Karin said Linford wanted to buy a motorcycle (a Fatboy?), but that Karin vetoed it, as her mother was a nurse who saw a lot of accident victims, and anyway, after buying their new farm, the motorcycle was out for now. Karin said that now that she has become a good cook, Linford likes the kitchen a lot more, and then they sang 'Hush Now'. They were both trying to remember when they'd been in Fort Wayne before. Linford thought he vaguely remembered it, but Karin still didn't. And whenever they come out with their next regular pop/folk/whatever album, 'Trouble' has got to be the single. I don't think even American pop radio can resist that song! One hell of a show.
Both Linford and Karin came out after the show to chat and sign autographs. They seemed to be in a pretty good mood. Karin was kind of quiet, but she smiled brightly when the young woman in line before me gushed "I've never heard music like that before". I asked Linford if there would be a new album this year, and he mentioned a Christmas album. Later, when I told him there was a store in town that sold vintage clothes, he said he didn't think they'd go there this time, but "maybe next time", so I'm hopeful that they will return to Fort Wayne and maybe even make this a regular stop. We're way cooler than Indy! And he seemed to like the black licorice toffee I gave him. I'm such a suckup.
So if they ever do make it back to Fort Wayne, you all should swing on by.
I really hope someone taped this show.
