Hey guys! I'm performing for this reception and want your ideas which OTR songs would be good for a newly married couple.

NOT Etcetera Whatever. NOT Etcetera Whatever. NOT Etcetera Whatever.

Unless you have reeeeeeally bad diction on the verses, that is. blink.gif

For specific positive recommendations, I think it depends on the couple's history. I'm sure some of the true music geeks here will have some ideas that are more general.

First, let's assume you're female, and second, let's assume you can linger nicely on the vowels like Karin does. (If you're a DJ, then it doesn't matter.)

Etcetera Whatever - probably everyone's first choice, because we've heard it a zillion times and we know what's coming in the refrain and it's sort of a spiritual thing.
But since Libby seems dead set against it, wink.gif I'll have to think about this one. I must admit it was not an instant favorite for me, so for people hearing it for the first time, the impact might be lost.

Hej (I Do) - nice and bouncy and flirty

Happy To Be So - sort of a minor-key downer, but the words are nice

Go Down Easy - maybe

Faithfully Dangerous - yeah, definitely a contender

Born - two thumbs up

Hush Now (Stellas's Tarantella) - difficult to play, but a sure hit if you can do it

I Want You To Be My Love - might raise a few grandparently eyebrows, but maybe they're a little hard of hearing wink.gif

Well, that's my list. Who else?

Excellent choices for the most part, Rick, though I agree with Libby on Etc. Whatever. I think that song is more about trying to make it through something difficult and kinda clinging desperately to each other in the hope that that will be enough. It's a troubling song for troubling times in my interpretation. Definately not wedding material. My first thought was Born as well, which is also technically a troubling song for troubling times considering the context, but I think the lyrics are vague enough in that regard and the chorus has such a feeling of joy that that it lends itself well to weddings and the commitments they involve.

I was TOTALLY going to say the same thing when I saw this thread title. So tell me Joshua, is it a good thing that we're thinking alike? ph34r.gif

well, i've been told that, "great minds think alike" but also that "fools seldom differ".

i'd like to think that we're a pair of the former. smile.gif

I agree.... so it's unanimous.

Sorry soonerfan.... you may have your thread back. And good luck!

definitely rhapsodie(i walked up the isle to be married to this one!) and i want you to be my love would be great!

i know they are covers, but moondance, paper moon and funny valentine are all good, as are a thousand other jazz standards.

falling is a good one, and up north where the stars is a nice, hopeful, instrumental and makes a nice slow dance song.

i like most of the previous suggestions as well. i, too don't think etc. whatever is good for a wedding reception, though i love, love, love that song.

oh and good luck and have fun! i just love playing at weddings!

Funny Valentine
...sping me round the kitchen floor like a carnival trubador.... ( I sing that in my head often.... makes me fall in love over and over.)
