Wow! How does that work?

That thing totally freaked me out the first time I saw it a couple months back.... seriously.

dude it worked!!!!!

This was so cool! We were sitting at the breakfast counter just now and I showed my daughter this - she's 25 - and of course she figured there must be a trick of some kind. At first she accused me of hovering the mouse over her number. (She doesn't trust me at all. She's no dummy!) So I kept the mouse still but it worked again. Still wary, she refused to tell me her pick - and it still got it right.

So now she's really spooked. She just picks a number off the screen without doing the math and ~still~ it picks her icon. Okay, this is just too weird - forget the numbers - she concentrates on one of the icons and it gets it right AGAIN!!! (Of course, she's not telling me her picks at this point, so I don't know that she's not doing the math.)


"Okay, Dad, how does it do that?" she asks nervously.

"I told you Bill Gates is evil," I explain. "It's a new thing he built into Windows XP." (This is the only PC in our house that runs XP and we're still somewhat leary of it, so this is a plausible lie.)

"But how did it know what I was thinking?"

"Do the math again."

"I wasn't doing any math - I was just picking pictures..."

"Uh-oh."

haha, yeah, when my dad showed me that, it took so long for us to figure it out.

I always fool this thing.
One thing I just noticed - there are multiple numbers associated with the same symbol.

That, and some simple math, will tell you why it's always right.
