I could probably slug through all the Album forums and get a picture, but I was curious how you would rank all the OtR albums if you were forced to by evil ferrets.

Here's my current order - just remember I love them all.

1. OHIO
2. Til We Have Faces (neck and neck with OHIO)
3. Good Dog Bad Dog
4. Patience
5. Cutting Room Floor
6. eve
7. Films for Radio
8. Amateur Shortwave Radio
9. Darkest Night of the Year
10. Besides (but Last Night and Miles are two of my favorites)
Trudes
Here's my order of preference: This is quite difficult and may not be accurate tomorrow.

1. ASR
2. GDBD
3. OHIO
4. FFR
5. CRF
6. DNOTY
7. Eve
8. Besides
9. TWHF
10. Patience

Addendum:
I listen to my bootleg shows almost all the time.

Well, good golly flyingspud....
Get yerself over to the Vine forum and sign yourself up.
Let me know if you don't have a burner...I'll send you a show.
BTW....In a vine, you can still participate without a burner if you have the capability of recording the show to your hard drive.
The original discs can still be sent on to the next person and you have the music in your computer to play with your Windows Media player or Musicmatch or Itunes...
I bought a separate external hard drive to store my music ( about $200.00) ....thereby not filling up my internal hard drives with the hundred of albums and shows I have in there.
Just a tawt.

I have a difficult time with 'favorite' so this is a guesstimate of which gets the most play. Top being the most.

OHIO

Darkest Night of the Year

I also tend to burn OtR compilations for the truck every few months which are usually a mix of album songs, mp3 rarites and songs off a boot or two.

And Linford's solo cd's practically live in my mini-cd/alarm thingy in my room.

Trudes, you are too kind. I actually signed up on 3 Vines when I first got here - I'm waiting to see how they go and then I may see about getting some more - I could seriously OD if I'm not careful.

OMG. I can't do this. For me this is the equivalent of asking which of my children I like best. If you said, "Mandy, which of your children do you like best?" I would say, "I don't have any children." But still. I like them all for different reasons.

Begrudgingly:

Ohio
GDBG
Films
Eve
ASR
Cutting Room
Darkest Night
TWHF
Besides
Patience

i would have to put GDBD at the top of my favorites [by anyone not just OtR], Ohio would be a close second. then it would be virtually impossible for me to decide. in all honesty, my favorite "OtR" disc is the one that's in my CD player.
Lynne
I have only 3 OtR albums (4 if you count OHIO as 2, I guess), but here's how I rank 'em:

1. Good Dog Bad Dog (any list of Over the Rhine favorites starts with "Latter Days," as far as I am concerned!)

2. Films for Radio

3. OHIO

Guess I've got lots to catch-up on ... and I look forward to hearing all the songs I've yet to hear!!

My order changes frequently, but here they are today.

1. Eve
2. Til We Have Faces
3. Good Dog Bad Dog
4. Ohio
5. Patience
6. Besides
7. Films For Radio
8. Amateur Shortwave Radio
9. Cutting Room Floor
10. Darkest Night Of The Year
11. Several live bootlegs, most notably the 2000 Cornerstone midnight show (24 songs!) and Live at The Iron Horse in Northampton, MA.

Love that old school (the original 4 piece is STILL the best lineup) OTR best, but Ohio is pretty awesome as well.

I recently told my Flannery students that if they went out and bought at least five OtR albums and listened to them exhaustively between now (Mar 1 or so) and the end of the semester, they'd get an A.

Do they even have five albums available in stores?

You might have to change that number to three. cool.gif

They can go to the website.

In North Carolina, they'll be lucky to find Ohio in stores. Although I have seen it here and there. Including Best Buy of all places.
FallingLeaf
Alright, an embarrassing confession: I hadn't heard Ohio--any of it--til this past weekend, when I bought it. Sad, agreed... and I figured I should bone up on it since I'm driving to the show in a couple of weeks (woo hoo!).

OK, so, now that that's out, I don't know how to rank the albums over time... my favorites change according to my life, my moods, my feelings. But right now:

1. Ohio.

You can't get "real" copies of the first three though. (if I'm gonna pay $15, I want my case and booklet dammit!) Thank god for ebay. (23 bucks for Eve...ouch)

I haven´t heard the new one yet, bought it yesterday, but the once I own I would rank thus

GDBD
Patience
FfR
TWHF

Being at work an bored, I compiled the following total:

GDBD is the numer one album of most of the voters (11) folloved by OHIO (5) and Patience (4). Eve and ASR got one first preference each.

Giving points so that the first preference gets five the second four and so on the following list can be compiled:

1. GDBD (81)
2. OHIO (71)
3. FfR (37)
4. Patience (31)
Eve (31)
6. ASR (27)
7. TWHF (18)
8. Cutting Room Floor (7)
Besides (7)
10. DNoY (3)

However, more people listed Ohio in the top five than any other album (21), against 19 for GDBD and 14 for FfR.

These statistics are probably affected by availability of the albums, that is the newer ones probably get a bit higher point by default.

Ok, back to work.

The next step would be to atempt an analysis of some kind. Since both GDBD and Ohio are pretty stripped down soundwise one could venture to say that this would be more popular with the fans than the more fuller band sound of the early stuff or the more radio-friendly FfR.

But I think a more reliable observation would be that Ohio and GDBD are pretty similar, and with Ohio being the most receint release it is only natural for this style to attaract a lot of votes at the moment. repeating the vote in a few months might give a very different result.

And having listened to Ohio twice now (lots of songs there) I probably rate it third after Patience. The desciption in the liner notes seem fitting ("20 new songs and not one damn hit"). This also suggest it might grow in a big way...

'Nuff pseudo-science already...

Since I don't own every OtR album, I'll rank what I do have:

1. Drunkard's Prayer
2. OHIO
2. GDBD
4. Films for Radio

That's a sad list. I need to get busy!
