As you noticed, the Orchard looks a bit different... I upgraded the forum software to the latest, which 'broke' our custom skin that we'd been using. While I track down and implement the fixes, I'm putting up this skin, which is the default skin that ships with the forum.
While it doesn't look as nice and comfortable as what you're used to (I am not a fan of the blue scheme), this default skin is in many way more fully-featured than our custom skin. And, since it doesn't have some of the problems of our custom skin, everything should work (please let me know if you spot anything not working).
I am working on the custom skin and hope to a> make it work with this new version of the forum, and b> make it more fully-featured. There is no estimated availability of these changes. Once I debug the custom skin, we can look at switching it back.

Every software application should institute the new "Blue" upgrade. Sure, it takes up a lot of RAM, but it's so... blue.

Personally, I like the blue (at least the color scheme) better than the red.

I don't like this color scheme at all. It looks like every other Internet bulletin board out there.

ooo, you all should try the new "heavy metal" skin that came with the forum upgrade... it's black on gray, with spiders and axe-wounds across the avatars...
sweet...

Well, I wouldn't know about it looking like all the others. The only two I visit on a regular basis are this one and Cowboy Junkies (which doesn't look like this one).

While I'm a fan of a pretty skin...
I have heard from others (CJMB) that a bland non colorful background is good because it doesn't call attention to a non-work page when at your job. Bright red Axe wounds and lightening bolts might catch the boss's eye from across the room.
OK, but no one here slacks while on the job so I guess that's a moot point.
Carry on.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up for me, though I hadn't considered what Trudes said (and since I'm not an at-work-loafer or anything (ahem)).
There is diagnostic work to be done on our custom (old) skin to see if it can be upgraded and what that will take. The custom skin looked great but doesn't work. This current skin (blue) is full-featured (just click the EDIT button on one of your own posts, for example) -- lots of subtle little bells-n-whistles. The current skin (blue) works but doesn't look so hot...
I _did_ add the custom stuff (like Member Map and Weather) to this skin, so at least you're not missing any site features, and Keith's beloved POSTS BY MEMBER function should be working again...

Me too.

Seriously though, take your time drew. We appreciate the fact that you upgraded. We can live with this sceme for a while. Hey, it would be really cool if you changed the colors like once a month! Wouldn't that be cool everyone?
Just kidding. I could feel Drew hovering over the "delete user" button with that last suggestion.

Just to throw it out there, I wanted to state that I love the new blue skin--but then, blue is my favourite colour in the whole world!
On another point, though, I do like the way this skin looks so unified. IMHO, the old skin doesn't. I mean I'm used to it and all, but it kinda seems hodge podge compared to this one. Maybe I just like the theme of the blue one. I don't know.. Just throwin' it out there.
No harm intended, just a little constructive critique...

Please don't start a poll about the skin (I don't know if that's what you were trying to do or not -- I'm just sayin').
To start a poll, reply to or start a new message. At the top, you should see a link called something like "poll options". Click that and you'll be able to add a poll. Note that this option is not available if you're editing a previous post.

nope. you'll be happy to know that i wasn't going to start a poll on the skin color.
i guess i'm still needing some help finding the "poll options." sorry, i'm slow sometimes. i see "new topic," but not "new poll" or anything poll.

"orchard" makes me think of apples and fall, which are red/yellow colors, which I love. So I'm not a big fan of the blue.
But I think Drew is awesome for working so hard and making our Orchard one of the best boards I've found around!
