Just watched a slew of DVDs recently (Madagascar, Robots, Polar Express and March of the Penguins). What a great film! I had no idea how difficult the mating/breeding process was for the Emperor Penguin (::chuckles a bit::... like I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN tongue.gif )

Anyway, I really enjoyed this film.

[soapbox]

I especially was grateful for the fact that they portrayed the reality of their existence and refrained (for the most part) from trying to "humanize" the animals (please!!! no more Bambi's).

Bambi: [searches frantically for his mother. All the sudden he stops, cause he is startled by what he sees. It is The Great Prince of the Forest]
Great Prince of the Forest: Your mother can't be with you anymore.
Bambi: [Closes his eyes and bow's his head as a single tear comes out of his eye]
Great Prince of the Forest: Come, my son
[both walk off together]

Please...

[/soapbox]

Anyway... Did you see this film? How did you like it? Seems to me that with all that travelling the penguins need to seriously upgrade their mode of transportation! And talk about CCCCCCCCCOLD!!!!!!!

We loved it. What a great movie. I heard that the original version, which is in French, dialog for the penguins and a pop music soundtrack.

I also heard that Morgan Freeman recorded his voiceovers in one day.

I think the English version is wonderful in every way.

What SHE said. At times the close-ups of the penguins took my breath away.

Took your breath away? Sheesh, what about the frostbitten photographers filiming that in -80 degree temps? Huh? Huh? tongue.gif

I loved it too! The stereotype of a penguin is squatty and waddly, but so many of the shots were so simple and graceful. My favorites, though, were of the little baby penguins sitting back on their haunches (um, flippers?), looking very full and happy. What can I say, I'm a sucker for the cute! It really is awe-inspiring, what they do. I have weird desires to go to Antarctica. wink.gif

Hi AB... Glad you joined us here in the Orchard. When you have a few minutes of free time, wander over to the member bios section and introduce yourself a bit. Looking forward to seeing you around!

I've wanted to go to AA or Alaska for years. Unfortunately, unless I agree to visit a place where the median year round temperature is at least 72 degrees first, I don't see it happening... wink.gif
