Eternally Striving
So one of the pluses to taking a film class is that you end up watching films whose existence you'd otherwise completely overlook. Such is the case with Wings of Desire.

I thought it was a great piece of work, though it was a bit long, and pretty slow going at times. Especially Marion's (Solveig Dommartin) end monologue. I didn't have a remote control, and had to sit through her rambling. If I'd actually paid attention, it might have been really poignant, but alas, I just kind of spaced out until she finished speaking. Overall, I thought it was a neat way of reinterpreting the fall of man into a good thing.

This is one of my all-time favorite films. It's not your typical film. It's more like poetry in visual medium. You really can't watch it like an ordinary Hollywood film, expecting to be dazzled and amazed. It's too sublime a film for that approach. I think it's even more interesting now, seeing as it was filmed before the fall of the Berlin Wall - as the film was really about the city of Berlin.

this one's a fave. the voiceover was written by the writer, peter handke. the idea took shape via paul klee's angel paintings and rilke's poetry. AND it was shot by one of the best cinematographers in film history-henri alekan.

thats more than enough for me to love!
thanks for the reminder,

Wim's done some marvelous stuff. Especially with Bono on the brain. Have you seen Faraway, So Close?

I haven't, but I'll put that film in my queue for consumption. Thanks for the suggestion.
