I think something by Natalie Merchant would be nice.
'Carnival' or 'Motherland'....maybe 'I may Know the Word'
Simon and Garfunkle's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' would sound great as a K/L duet with either or both on piano...I think it would make a nice quiet acoustic.
'Big Yellow Taxi' would be awesome IMO....very Karin.
'Chucky's in Love' by Rickie Lee Jones
Just a few thoughts.

Yaz's (also: Yazoo) Upstairs at Eric's was one of my first cd purchases, I can't believe it's 21 years old... so on that note, to hear Karin belt out 'Midnight' would be so freakin' cool.

I'd love to hear an Elvis Costello song.
"Almost Blue" maybe (at least he performed it, now I'm wondering if he wrote it or not....) else "All This Useless Beauty".

I'm not sure this qualifies as a "cover", but I would absolutely love to see K&L do a recital of Schubert's songs. If you've never heard them (well, you've doubtless heard Ave Maria), Happy to Be So is very reminiscent of his more tragic compositions. I know they're both classically trained, although I don't know if Karin sings in German.
But I'd settle for Son of a Preacher Man.

I'd like to hear them interpret Yes' "Wonderous Stories". Karin covering Jon Anderson's vocals would be cool, Linford backing would be neat, and it somehow strikes me that song could have a real OtR-type feel.
Plus, I never caught it live at any Yes show

I hadn't thought about "Crazy." That would be even better then Norah Jones' cover, which is incredible in and of itself.

Yeah, Bridge Over Troubled Waters would be lovely.
And, yeah, Elvis Costello wrote Almost Blue.
I'd love them to do a slow, acoustic cover of Dylan's Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You. (
Original lyrics here, though they've been changed some over the years -- the Live '75 collection opens with a great version of this song with slightly different lyrics.)
His song
Forever Young would be lovely, too.
And I'd love to hear Karin wrapping her voice around Come Rain Or Come Shine.

Being that Christmas time is approaching, and the tour looks to be starting back up, I would love to hear an accapella (sp?), crowd sing along version of O Come All Ye Faithful. Would also love to hear Karin belt out What a Wonderful World.

Of course (as always, haha) I have to agree with Bethany and say that "All this Useless Beauty" would be a great one to hear.
I have to disagree with "Ave Maria," because everyone does that one.
I have yet to hear a badly done version of Prince's "When Doves Cry," (save for Prince's), so it might be interesting to hear them take a stab at it.
Oooooh, I don't know if any of you are familar with the now defunct band "My Brother's Mother," but they had a wonderful song called "Someday" that I think I'd like to hear.
And of course, wouldn't it be great to hear Karin attempt to do something from Tori Amos? Maybe "God" or "Silent all these years."

No, no, no. Freebird is an international joke request. People yell it out at every concert. I have no idea how it all got started, but it certainly isn't specific to K&L. I like to yell it out at rap concerts, and I'm waiting for the day some hipster says, "to h*ll with it" and breaks out in a most excellent hip-hop version.

I also would love to hear Karin cover Mitchell's River. I had hoped she'd drag it out at Taft last year, but I didn't hear anything about it. Would've been (can be?) a heck of a Christmas tribute.

"Orphan Girl" is a Gillian Welch song ... do you have any Gillian Welch CDs, Drew? That might be where you recognize it from (other than Karin's stunning live renditions, of course).
I am in full support of OtR covering "Son of a Preacher Man" and "Hallelujah." And I think Karin would do an amazing cover of "At Last (My Love Has Come Along)" as well.

Orphan Girl is also on a compilation CD called Lifted which includes a Rufus Wainwright version of Hallelujah. Starbucks sells it. Could this be where you heard it Drew?
I'm going crazy thinking of these cover songs. "Son of a preacher man" makes me very excited, along with "Into the Mystic" (I love me some good Van), "At Last" and Hello! "Tiny Dancer" would be awesome too. Let me just say "Hallelujah" was breathtaking and "Fever" was so hot.
But let me tell you all something very important. This is the one they must do. It's absolutely perfect. I don't know if you've heard of a little gal called Eva Cassidy (bless her departed soul). She used to sing a Pete Seeger song called "Oh, Had I a Golden Thread" (which apparently was her favorite song). It's got a kick ass Hammond organ part and Karin's voice would be right at home in this melody. Plus, it's a fun song to sing.
Of course, the only problem with hearing Karin and linford's cover of a song is that it seems ridiculous that anyone else would try to do it.

Nah. Before I'd ever go into Starbucks, I'd let someone take a giant dump in my mouth. Starbuck's coffee is
