Sweet... part of my celebration of finishing taking my CPA exams* tomorrow will be to see the 12:01AM showing of the new Harry Potter and the Something of Something. The "something"s are irrelevant, as I'm sure it'll be a great movie... and far surpass the "paper version of the movie" in special effects and butter smell alone.
Plus, it's PG-13... I've heard due to its more violent nature... but I'm hoping it's because Ronald Weasley flashes some man-tit.
back to my Becker CPA "Business Environments & Concepts" flashcards until then...

None of Ron's man-tits maybe, but just a few bubbles covering bits of Harry.
Ohh lala!
A lot of the violence was suggested more than portrayed. This was probably for the best for the kiddies.
They covered most of the important bases, but it's still sad how so many great things have to be skimmed past or skipped in the movies.
Bleh.

ok...here's a question
I haven't seen a Harry Potter movie or read a Harry Potter book. Had shied away from them when they came out cause I was uncomfortable about the sorcery theme. Now people tell me it's not weird at all.
So....would it be hard to step into the Harry Potter story on the 4th movie? Any thoughts?

I think if you rent the first movie, where they really establish most of the characters and how quidditch is played, you could probably jump to the fourth from there without being too confused. It should make enough sense that way. There may be some references that you won't get, but then there are all kinds of references you only get if you've read the books, too.
It always bewildered me that anyone could find this stuff threatening because of the witchcraft. It's very apparently fantasy. But, then, I'm often bewildered by people. Now, I would say, don't bring the kiddies unless they are ready for some gore and some scary stuff ie. death. The books are meant to start out for younger folk and get more grown up with each book. The fourth book/movie is pretty intense and not for wee ones! The book is scarier than the movie though if you're a reader who visualizes.
Gotta get around to rereading four and see that movie again!

Margarita- I love your avatar!
I also loved Goblet of Fire- I think it struck just the right note in between the first 2 movies and the third. Just the right amount of...everything!

i'd at least see the first film before seeing this recent one... it'll help you understand a bit of what's going on, but like said above, some things you'll miss...
though, i'd read the books as well. so much better than the films (but that's to be expected).
for a film, they're pretty darn good.

We saw it. The special effects and (especially) the SOUND effects were amazing.
It sounded like there REALLY was a three-year-old child chattering behind us -- and occasionally kicking our seats -- for the entire movie. Very lifelike.
I fail to see how it added to the overarching storyline, but I appreciated the realism.

there were a couple of times when i turned around to see the crowd of children talking behind me only to realize that it was just the movie.

That's more or less how I felt about it. It was a cool movie but it definatly didn't drive the story forward nearly as much as the last one. So far I think The Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite. One of these days I'll have to read the books, but that is not going to happen until after I graduate.

I liked The Goblet of Fire - a lot. It had more humor that was missing in the last film, and it didn't feel "rushed" as the last one felt. It's odd to rate it that way, because the book was so friggin long to read through, but this film was truer to the book than Prizoner of Azkaban.
Unfortunately, Rupert Grint still cannot act without sounding and looking like a sniveling brat. I was also bummed they never showed older brother Charlie, but was only mentioned briefly. They also failed to connect all the events back to the first book.
As far as the PG-13 rating, I didn't find it any more disturbing than the last film which was PG. I often don't get the MPAA ratings with films.
