Hello Everyone,

I've been putting off typing this because I've been waiting for something profound and witty to hit me, but here I am, still waiting, so I guess I'll get on with it.....

My name is Shawn and I've been an Apple since July. I don't remember just when I became an OTR fan. It was around '90? A friend in high school let me borrow a tape and I've been hooked ever since, eagerly awaiting new album releases. Anytime I would hear that they were playing, I would try to make the show. I saw them play mostly just around the Cincy area. I saw them play @ Sudsy Malone's once with my fake ID and a bunch of other places over the years. I never knew about the Orchard until this summer though. I probably stood right next to some of you at the shows and didn't even know it.

When I'm not hanging out with you guys, I enjoy boating. I'm a captain and I run a charter yacht here in Cincinnati. I'm pretty lucky really; I'm one of the few people that get to do what they love for a living. I play with boats and throw parties! I work allot, but its fun.

When I'm not working on a boat, I go home and live on my own boat. I have been a "liveaboard" for over 11 years now. My boat's name is "Miss Magic" and she's my baby. She got her name from a Jimmy Buffett song that he wrote about his daughter. I can't believe that more people don't liveaboard. There's no way to describe the beauty on the water unless you live it.

I also enjoy welding, biking, diving, hiking, live music, cooking, and good times with friends but not necessarily in that order.

Anyway, I think I've taken up enough of Drew's memory from this site. Now you know a little more about who you are typing with and talking to at the shows.

Cheers!

nice to meet you, shawn. i remember sudsy malone's...never saw a show there, but met a really creepy guy at the bar while trying to write an english paper...

hi, shawn. glad you made it official. welcome to the orchard. smile.gif

i went to sudsy malone's just last year, but for a tour and picture, not a show. i'm on the far left, but i think the most intereseting part in the shot is bruce on the far right. what's up with that guy? he's so much fun! i'm sure you've seen him at shows. he's been to like 10,000 or so....give or take.

okay, so how often do people sing the theme from the love boat on your yacht? and how do you react?

Hey Shawn, indeed nice to meet you.

I'm a bit jealous, not for the waterpart because we have that here (it's coming down in truck loads right now dry.gif ), but for knowing that you're actually gonna meet some of the people from the orchard at the next otr show you'll attend.... And for having a home you love and call by name.

See you around (digitally speaking....)

I get the Love Boat thing every now and then. I just play the good host and smile with them. Other popular ones are the Gilligan's Island theme and the Titanic outstreched arms pose up on the bow of the boat. You can count on one of those on almost every cruise; and yes, alcohol is usually involved.

Hey Andre,

I'll say Hi to the gang for you.

Have you tried to get on the Vines? You can get some recordings from some of the shows. Its not as good as a show but its close.

PS
How in the hell do you get that thing over your "e"? I tried to spell your name right. smile.gif

oh, i didn't even think about those. huh.gif you poor thing. good for you for being the good host. if it makes you feel any better, i promise to stay away from love boat, gilligan's island and titanic from now on when i'm on a ship of any size.

i've had a one-day-a-week job shining shoes for the past 5 and a half years, and every single week, somebody has come in with tennis shoes on, and said, "hey, can you shine these?" and they always think they're the first. i give them the, "oh, that was a good one!" look, but in my head, i'm really thinking, "seriously? you think you're original?"

i got that while working at the amusement park. we would tell people that only four "adult sized people" could be in a boat, and so they would drop to their knees or stoop and say, "how about now?"

ha ha ha. *rolls eyes*

welcome captsomer!

I'm not so sure about the 'liveaboard' thing. . .I mean I like SpongeBob SquarePants, but that's about as close I could come to living in the water.

I don't live "in" the water. I live "on" it. (and it rocks! really biggrin.gif )

Welcome, captsomer, from another newbie! Yes, boats are pretty cool places to be. My parents had a yacht for 5 years when I was a kid...a 42 foot sailboat that we sailed around the Long Island Sound which is by New York City. We lived on it on weekends in the warm weather. Can't get ever get the sense of being out on the water out of my soul, I think. About 12 yrs ago or so, we'd had severe weather here in winter for a long stretch - snow and ice everywhere, then more snow and slippery roads. When the sun finally came out again, I took a drive to the Ocean City, NJ, went up on the boardwalk all bundled up, braving the wind.

I saw smiling snowmen and snowwomen and snow children on the beach, their backs to the ocean; and I smiled back at them in the 5 degree Farenheit temperature, the rest of the United States behind my back, smelled the sweet ocean, felt reassured by her voice and motion, and went back home. Peace in 5 minutes, on a cold sunny day in January.

Welcome aboard, Cap'n Shawn! I live less than a mile from the Great South Bay of Long Island, and one of my son's best friends lives on a houseboat moored at a local marina. They love it except when the Nor'easters blow through here. If you tell me I can get Internet, I may have to consider it myself!

Welcome to the Orchard Shawn! It was great meeting you at Woodsongs...

My neighbor (liveaboard also) has high speed internet. I'm too cheap and I just have dial up. We're not "camping out" here. You can do the same things on a boat that you can do ashore. I'm not "roughing it".

I've seen the yacht my friends... He is not roughing it by any means! I could fit my house in this thing.
And by all means lets plan the "Apples party" WE do not have to wait until summer though.

Shawn...Are you cooking? If you are then I am there!

The river and OTR music LIVE! Very very cool. Everyone would love it. It would become habit I promise you
