This is a movie based on John le Carre's book, with Ralph Finnes and Rachel Weisz in it. British film, but an excellent thriller, well, sort of, in the Brits kind of way.

I went to see it this passed Saturday since I don't have my kids with me. I have to say, firstable, that the experience of WATCHING MOVIE IN MOVIE THEATER is quite foreign blink.gif to me since I became a mother. On top of that, there wer only 4 people in the theater. Like I said, this is not a movie that will get much attention here in the US.

I won't spoil the movie for you, therefore I can't really go into any details. It is a good movie, filled with emoions. It's a love story with conspiracy, large pharmaceutical companies, politics, all that and more in it. The one thing that moved me was the intense jealousy, and what it makes people do.

If you happen to catch it, let me know what you think.

I watched it with a certain Hawaiian Apple last week and I dug it a lot.

Africa looks awful (sorry Dan) and it was filmed so well. The story, the "thriller" part wasn't as thrilling to me as I'd read it was for others. The love part worked well.. And the main parts of the movie just reminded me of a rehash of Erin Brokovich somehow..

That all said, I really really enjoyed it.

Agreed.

I can see how this movie would not do well in the US market at all. Sadly.

i agree sarah, here is a meaningful look at jealousy and corruption in a mix of good intentions.

I saw this last night, finally. *LOVED* it.

Such an elegant, smart, real-feeling film. I love movies that give you pieces of information that paint the picture but don't hit you over the head with them, and that force the watcher to actually think to understand. Subtle references to earlier dialogue (Justin asking the first cousin if "marriage" between the big companies was the first cousins' wording or Justin's wife's, then watching Justin's elation in the cousin's response... brilliant). How there were no explosions, how the violence was somehow "implied" more than shown. And the clever and believable way the plot developed, the seriousness and the sadness and the love in so many of the characters.

Exactly my kind of movie. Hope people get a chance to see this one.

exactly Tory! exactly.
the first thing i learned in film was "always, always assume your audience is as smart or smarter than you are." if the oscars were more like a literary award....instead of "no, you must be sure than the audience understands the film the first time around, no one want to pay to see a movie twice etc. etc. etc."
Tory, i'd watch any film with you any time!
bring out the popcorn,
woooooowho!

I will be watching this one tonight. I read about half way through the novel one day while killing time at the library, so I'm looking forward to the movie. Hope I'm not disappointed.

i finally watched this last month (if you haven't noticed, i'm back into my old netflix habits!). what a great film. just made me cry at then end, i was so sad.

i've recently begun working on the marketing and mail campaign for world vision, and this movie really drove the point home.
