So...anyone planning on catching this flick? I read and loved the book when it came out a few years back. It never crossed my mind that it could be made into a movie as there wasn't much plot--it was more of a series of rants. I've seen some mixed reviews... Anyway, I have tentative plans to see it Saturday night.

Edited to add... I think what I really liked about the book was his love/hate relationship with the Marine Corp. There were a lot of things that frustrated him about it, but at the same time those same things were so much a part of who he had become. He had an amazing amount of concomitant pride and self-loathing. I could relate it so much to my relationship with the church and my own journey to identify my identity.

So'd you see it? I want to know how it was!!! I plan on seeing it if it's still in theatres when I get back on Dec 23rd...but...I'm betting it won't be.

Maybe it'll come here...yeah, I'm sure foreign countries like to play movies about the US military. ::drips with sarcasm::

You never know, though...

Anyway, I want a synopsis...or maybe just the book....yeah...I changed my mind, I'll read the book first, I mean, before the movie. go right ahead and synops...all you like.

A friend of mine saw it this week. He loved the book but was disappointed by the movie. That's really all I have to add.

I saw it a couple weeks ago, and while it was not earth-shaking, I thought it was very good. I had not read the book, but I knew enough not to expect a bloody-gory-shootout war movie. That seems to be where a lot of misunderstanding and disappointment has been (especially among the male population).

I found it to be deliciously human, hilarious one moment and heartbreaking the next.

But it's rating is more for language, brief sexual images, and partial nudity - definitely not for violence.

If you're not going with strong expectations and in a fairly mellow mood, definitely check it out.
