O Drew Vogel. We who are named Drew salute you.

Old timers know me from the List of Quiet, Explicit, Beautiful DOOM know me; I'm Drew Johnson from Minnesota, living on the edge of St Paul's downtown. Think of me when you look west to the night sky...those of you who are in the Twin Cities likely have either seen me or my lovely wife running the merchant stand for OtR.

Been a fan since 1992 when I decided to drop by on a tip from this little music zine out of Wheaton, IL...C-Stoners have seen me in the yearly Quiet, Explicit, Beautiful Landgrab for good seats at the Over the Rhine midnight show and at the Imaginarium across the food court during the day.

The thought that 'Eve' is more than a decade old makes me feel doddering on occasion.

Hello, Drew. bobthedancingmonkey? I'm not sure I want to know where that comes from.

And you, Kylie.

While I am somewhat curious if anyone on this forum knows the origin of 'Bob the Dancing Monkey' (and let me know if you do...) without reading this, here's the precis of this silly little nom de plume's start.

Once upon a time, when dirt was middle-aged, I was a nature center counselor at a Christian camp in southeastern Wisconsin called 'Timber-Lee'. Now, amidst all of the other stuff there, the Program Staff's job was to entertain the kids with songs and skits. The creative output of that unit of high school, college, and post-college kids was remarkable, but one of the weird, crowning efforts was the inclusion of a small wooden cutout (about a foot and a half long) in the shape of a monkey that was named 'Bob the Dancing Monkey'. Bob was often a kinda surreal part of the skits that was mostly an inside joke to the counselors. It was cute.

When I left Timber-Lee that year, I entered college and learned about e-mail. I was told I needed a handle for the online mail and academic/scoial BBS system at Carleton, so I picked the first thing out of my head. The first thing turned out to be that little monkey cutout, and so I typed in:

Notes> set profile/personal_name="Bob the Dancing Monkey"

And...now I'm thirty. Yeeks.
