I think we'll see this one tonight. Anyone else interested in it?

i'm looking forward to seeing it for several reasons. one, i love cameron crowe's work (well, except for vanilla sky). two, it was filmed primarily in louisville, lexington, frankfort (the last two doubled which doubled for e'town for the most part) and elizabethtown (which is a small town about 30-45 minutes outside of louisville). i've heard very mixed reviews so far, so i am interested to see it and deciding for myself. i've heard it paints a very nice picture of the people and the state of kentucky.

sidenote: i got to meet cameron crowe and nancy wilson a few weeks ago, they were hanging out in favorite record store ear x-tacy, after a local promo event here. they were very nice, friendly and gracious people. i got to talk to him for a few minutes and he autographed a copy of an "almost famous" poster for me (after i told him it was one of my favorite movies ever) and he also gave me a signed theatrical poster for "elizabethtown"...

pretty cool, huh?

I'd say! smile.gif

I'm interested in seeing this one because of my KY connection as well. I'm somewhat familiar with Elizabeth town and may end up having to visit after seeing this film even though filming apparently didn't take place there. My mom's family is originally from KY (still many folks down that way). Dad and I spent a weekend down in KY/TN about a month back at a family reunion on mom's side. Beautiful, beautiful country.

Cool indeed...I'd love to meet the man who actually lived Almost Famous...

Didn't get to see it last night. He wanted to see Flight Plan, so FP (hisssssss) it was. I'm going tomorrow to catch a matinee.

***SPOILER***

Just got in from seeing it. I enjoyed it until the end. I like the way Crowe underlaid the drama of the interwoven stories thoughout with humor. The soundtrack was really well chosen, ESPECIALLY, My Morning Jacket's cover of Freebird. What a hoot!! What I didn't like was the way he chose to end it. I wish he would have left Drew's road trip home with his dad only. Clare could have waited until he got home. But, that's Hollywood, I guess. Or, he could have ended it darkly, but that REALLY would have sent audiences out screaming.

Anyway, I thought it was well done and will probably be one that I will end up buying previously viewed. I'm also considering the soundtrack as well depending on what all made the cut.

Soundtrack list:

"60B (etown theme)," Nancy Wilson
"It'll All Work Out," Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
"My Father's Gun," Elton John
"io (This Time Around)," Helen Stellar
"Come Pick Me Up," Ryan Adams
"Where To Begin," My Morning Jacket
"Long Ride Home," Patty Griffin
"Sugar Blue," Jeff Finlin
"Don't I Hold You," Wheat
"Shut Us Down," Lindsey Buckingham
"Let It Out (Let It All Hang Out)," the Hombres
"Hard Times," eastmountainsouth
"Jesus Was a Crossmaker," the Hollies
"Square One," Tom Petty
"Same in Any Language," I Nine

enjoyed the soundtrack, but the film, imho, was just lacking (what, i'm not sure).
