here is the idea:
you say something edifying, complimenting, uplifting, or otherwise lovingly to a certain person in the orchard here and then that person pats someone else on the back an so on. It may be a recent thing or a past thing etc..............
if you post someone and they don't see it because the orchard is such a lively place please quickly pm or otherwise message them with the link. it's the least you can do since they are so wonderful.
the idea is to keep the string rolling...
love luke.
the easy person to say would be my wife, and the most important, (some one else will have to kick it back to her someday. you may have to email her or something since see ain't around much, you know, with the boot shopping and all)... ...but... ...i'll be more original and start where many of you would start
with annabelle kentuckiannna
thanks for taking the time to work with me and writing with me for the baby stories. (insert link here) that is a wonderful thing you have , thanks again!

Wow, awesome idea, and thanks! You're welcome. It was my pleasure.

Choosing is hard!
But let me say this about Michelle: she makes my favorite dessert, and she made it for me when I was in Maui. Thanks so much for that! I just adore you, Michelle, for so many reasons.

The adoration is mutual. Next time I'll greet you at the airport with them, anna. Warm even. Well, if there are no dogs sniffing around. Har.
Choosing is hard. Hard enough I'd almost like to not. BUT, I couldn't handle the guilt of letting this loverly idea sink. On that note, I'm avoiding all sappy forms of uplift and compliment to thankfully tag (oh he's gonna hate it) mr. mcposterton.
For the simple, wonderful reason that my shit is repeatedly, and fantastically, cracked up by the majority of his posts.
And usually unexpectedly, too.
Thanks for the outloud cackles, dan.

Thanks, babe.
Zayne is awesome. Sweet, considerate, giving, and laughs at life even when it trys to prove itself completely unfunny.
Plus, I always think of her when I hear "Carwash" and remember getting a Zayne hair carwash across my face.

dan, thanks for the nice words, i really appreciate them. it's the people and the vibe around here that make all this stuff happen and worthwhile. not me.
well, my turn...i'm going to have to reach out and tap keith on the shoulder and pass this along to him next. he does so much good for everybody around here that is known and what is amazing, i think he actually does far more that is unknown.
i'm happy to be able to recognize and single him out, and proud to call him my friend. i'll also pass along my highest praise of "he's a damn good guy" and add that he is a good soul with a huge heart to it, we are all the better for having be a part of our lives.

Oh gawrsh, Bill ... thanks!

I feel pretty much the same about you, as I hope you already know.
There are an awful lot of as-yet-untagged people here I love, but I'd like to recognize
Stiv. He is truly one of the most generous and kind-hearted people I know, and I feel like I could ask him for just about anything and he'd do his very best to help. He's reseeded countless vines after they've fallen into black holes, not to mention starting quite a few himself for the rest of us to enjoy. And it goes without saying he is a model husband and dad.
So here's to that lovable leprechaun of Lexington,
Stiv! You're it, pal!

Awwww...I'm gonna cry now!!! Thanks for the kind words Keith. I just do what I can, when I can.
Can I tag two?
First I want to express my love for my lovely wife Amanda (Milosporos) Without her in my daily life I could not get by. She is the reason I am who I am today.
Also, Trudes, since day one she has been one of the most loving and caring and accepting people in this here Orchard. I have never seen a negative word from her. Thanks for being here and bringing me into the fold since the early days.
Trudes
Oct 19 2005, 06:29 PM
Stiv,
Thank you so much. I am unworthy, to be sure, to share this love tag with your beautiful Amanda.
As far as tagging another apple...I REALLY want to tag every one of us. We are a CIRCLE of friends with no one at the beginning or end of the line.
But, in keeping with Luke's idea, I will tag our fearless (or fearsome) leader, The Drew, without whose generosity and geek expertise, our Orchard would not be here.
What did I ever do before I found you all?
XO sappy kisses and touchy feely hugs....live with it.

Awww Stiv. I am so thankful I have you in my life(and Paige).
There are so many good people on here that I want to tag, but I'll start with Annabelle. Annabelle, you have been a great friend. I enjoy chatting with you at the shows and the roller coaster rides together. You have a very uplifting personality and I am thankful I got to know you.

Oh, wow, Amanda, thank you. I loved the roller coasters. And I always enjoy spending time with you and the McFadden clan. I remember meeting you waaaaaay back when, a year or two before this board started, at the Dame. It was my first time there and I was just sure we'd be first in line, 'cause we were, like, an hour early (obviously I was with Bill

). We rounded the corner, and there you were, you and Stiv. I thought you were so pretty and sweet, and that Stiv had just about the kindest eyes I'd ever seen. That hour went fast as we chatted and the crowd grew behind us. It's been thrilling for me to watch (albeit usually from afar) you and your family grow. But that isn't even my favorite thing about you. My favorite thing is that you think and you make me think. As Clancy would say, "Too cool for school. "
Hmmmmmmm.
'k
I'm picking Justine, 'cause her mom is called "the finger" and that scares me in a kinda mafia kind of way. (kidding!) Serious, Justine, you are "it" because every time I've met you it's been a little whirlwind of joyousness and good vibes, and because I dig anybody who can and will bring their mother to a show. Shine on you crazy diamond.

thanks for the kind words, zayne. and i could easily and honestly say the same back to you.
this is tough. over the past couple years i've made several good friends around this joint who are worthy of the recognition. a few have already been mentioned above and the others undoubtedly will be tagged soon, as i've seen their kindness and love expressed to others as well as myself.
but today, kudos are in order for diana,
Lynne. we met at taft last year and this gal has kept me laughing ever since. her jovial nature is bound to suck in any of you who have a chance to meet her. we've just got to get her to more OtR shows first (next weekend would be a great time for a kidnapping). diana's been great to me in the past couple weeks with words of encouragement and uplifting through some rough times.
i love me some apples, you're all good eggs. well,

Thank you SO much, Roger! You are such a sweet guy, and you have become a dear friend over the past year and a half ... plus you made me some Cake AND allowed me to hear "Latter Days," live ... keep your chin up and keep the faith: Life definitely does have a way of taking a turn for the better, eventually.

I tag Jeanne!
Jeanne, your concert photos captured my attention from Day 1, and your ability to capture lightning is just amazing (and brave!). So: You're it, Jeanne!

Wow, this is do hard.
Most of you deserve this honor.
I do want to send a special shout out to Bruce for being such a wonderful, welcoming, inclusive human being. I was a longtime lurking listee (since 1995 or so), and on the old list, so many of Bruce's post were both hysterically funny and somewhat intimidating. In the old days, I saw him in front of me in line at Canal Street, but I was always too shy to introduce myself, secretly afraid that when I did, I'd get blasted with a scathing sarcastic comment. Then I met Bruce at the May 2004 Canal Street shows and realized I had nothing to worry about.
But Bruce has already been tagged, so I'm gonna tap the littlest nametag maker, I mean
kylie jo. She's quick on the draw at wishing people happy birthdays, she makes a wicked mean nametag (and that's a good thing), and she's short like me. And what a sense of humor!

Also, I wanna tag Brentw... I met him in Nashville(and spilled beer on his lovely wife)... he's just so nice! He's very encouraging and has taken some really amazing photos. I wish he would come around more.

I think I'll tag
fellow newbie Andre, the nutty Dutchman. First, he has a pretty sweet sense of humor. Second, he has been very gracious in giving me feedback on my poetry/songwriting. It's always hard to pull that off (giving feedback on someone else's creativity), but Andre has a way about him. And finally, I had to tag him because.... well..... because of this:

For this alone, he must be tagged! Nice to have you Andre!

As promised I'll continue this thread.
I found it a little hard in the beginning to choose someone. I wanted to choose someone who hasn't been mentioned before in this thread. And the most obvious would have been Erik Grootendorst who is, as mentioned in his member bios, my brother. Therefore by far the member I love most. But then again, I would confront him with the same problem I had, picking one from many who have been kind and caring to a newbie.
So for starters: this one goes to all of you who made me feel welcome here. I like it here and I benefit from the english practice you guys give me. And the compliments about that.
The person I think deserves his name here is: skoegahom. His thread about the picture with hidden bandnames carried me through some rough nights. I had a terrible cold and working nightshifts. It was a great relief to find something I could lose myself in.
For that, skoegahom, you deserve your place here with all the other very much appreciated members. Thanks a lot. Let's carve your name in marble!
For those who missed out on all the fun:

André, I’m very happy that you are enjoying the puzzle. Personally, it's driving me insane!
I'd like to mention a lot of people that have shared music with me, Keith, Steve, Steve, Jeanne, Dan & Dustin (hope I didn't forget anyone!) And Drew for sharing recipes. And all those who have prayed for my family during this crisis
But today, I'd like to share the love with
paintedturtlegirl for not only offering to pray, share her faith, answer questions about my Father-in-Law's heart surgery but also for sharing pictures in the Fall picture thread as well. All very meaningful stuff!
I believe that the opposite of Love is not hate, rather to ignore. Ignoring is not caring. Caring for people is therefore the act of loving. Nurses may get paid to care for people, but it's never enough, so in effect its kind of its own ministry. And nurses need love too!

aww, I think ignoring/not caring is the opposite of loving also. Nursing is an opportunity for a kind of ministry; it is only by grace that I became a nurse this year at age 46 after returning to school after a long time. I get to treat very, very sick patients, I get to remind many of them that God "is on the throne today, in fact, he's right here" and hug them. I take care of their medical needs but their needs are with their bodies/ minds/ spirits, and I let the Lord lead me in finding opportunities to show them love. There are many times I am able to tell the most sickly and downcast, "I'm so glad that I was able to be your nurse today", and then I tell them some way or ways in which they affected me in a positive way. I hug them, even the ones that have highly resistent infections (with protective attire). What I do is a priviledge, being able to give and receive love is a priviledge. Managing their medical care to the best of my ability is a priviledge.
I'm gonna tag
Tonepoet77 for his support over in the Writers Forum, and for posting things himself - and, for explaining to me what a "bridge" is!

SoCal Steve, when not globetrotting, is an avid concert-goer, all around general nice guy and good listener. It was good to see you last night at The Press.

Let's see. I had a lot of help this summer from fellow Apples when purchasing computers and tech stuff.
Daneel gave me more help than was called for and made making an educated decision infinitely more possible. Thanks for sharing freely! The details were extremely helpful. You made my first autumn in Texas tons easier to accept. You're IT! See you at Taft.

awww yay!
Thanks, Miss Amanda:) I always feel a little weird and out of place among large groups and actually had five or six leaves in my car for you, but wimped out on the chance of looking like a big leaf geek. If you ever need more autumn I've got you covered;)
I had to think for awhile to decide on my tag. There's lots of folks who I'd really like to get*, but this time I'm going to go for Kelly, kab.
I tend to have a hard time figuring out who's who and who they really are from board to real life and often facade to real life and at CST I felt like we had a real conversation. You are an incredibly genuine person and so brave to wear your heart on your sleeve. I tend to feel very reserved around folks I don't know well, but I immediately felt at ease and joyful sitting next to you sharing a few words. Tag, you're it!
*word to my pimp!
wow, margarita, you have no idea how great it is to hear that from you. (i've always had a thing for you, you know.) to know now that it's mutual makes me get a wide-eyed, shy smile! my heart beats fast!
my shout-out goes to my dear friend ryan/whenigo. we've shared support, commands (he tends to give me missions, which always make me smile), chats, the crises of the masters project, and now, finally, music. thanks, ryan -- if only you lived 'round here, we'd be friends for IRL!

aw, kelly, kelly, kelly, i'm honored. and friday afternoon was a good time to get a shout-out, so thanks. i meant to reply right then but didn't quite get to it. i know, i know...you're shocked. anyway, laugh too loud at someone's joke today. not so loud that you embarrass them, but loud enough that they think they're funnier than they are.
i'd like to tag lara (happy2beso), my first friend here in the orchard. she probably had a great time at the mindy concert last night, and i'm a bit jealous. happy monday lara.

just wanted to send a general shout out to all you lovely apples! you all made a crappy 2005 in the life of zayne more bearable. in the hardest of times, i knew i could come to this forum and find something to smile about -- and laugh too hard out loud about. thank you for being who you are, collectively and individually.
peace,
zayne
