"Brokeback Mountain." (Or as all us gays are calling it: "Bareback Mountain.")
I was just talking to a co worker the other day and he mentioned that he was reading Post Cards by Proulx. I had seen the movie the Shipping News and we spoke briefly about it. His POV on Proulx was this:
"
She's a lesbian who writes great male lead characters, which is odd--most lesbians write about lesbian characters and have female leads."
Now, not having read any Proulx, or any other lesbian authors that I know of, save a short story by Dorothy Allison,
I'm wondering if many of Proulx's readers feel this same way.I just did a quick google search on her and found this quote:
"she has called it her "purpose in life to write books in which lesbians live."Plus, now that I'm thinking about it, I don't recall any lesbian characters in The Shipping News. Were they just written out or muted down by the screenplay?
I did find the movie (TSN) very enjoyable and had planned on buying the book...
Here's a cross post from another thread just in case it may be pertinent to this topic later...
