youre amazing
and everything I need
spend your time like loose change
freer than a wild weed

your familiar
like nothing else before
bring the shadows with light
show me what the dark is for

how do you capture a spark
how do you lasso a falling star

you are broken
and beautiful that way
kinda like a dime store watch
I wanna wind you up anyway

how do you capture a spark?
how do you lasso a falling star?
yeah-eah

make a wish baby
make it on the moon
on this trajectory
sun comes up to soon

you got nothing
that I haven't seen before
whoa but baby
It's something it's something
I'm watchin' walkin' out my door

how do you capture a spark?
how do you lasso a falling star?
Yeah

you're amazing
whoa you're amazing
your amazing
you are
you are a falling star
you're amazing
you are
your a falling star

Calm down, you are obviously in a black hole, so resistance is futile. heh.

This is a new-ish song that was released on a charity disc last year and being the uber fans that we are, we have now boot-legged it!

Shhhh. No one will know unless they see you crying!

Sleeping pills are obviously not wasted on me at all! smile.gif

it's there.

mark was close. it is a beautiful song that was recorded by karin on sept 3rd, 2003 at a benefit to help save st. elizabeth, a beautiful old church in norwood (right across the street from kylie's apartment) that has fallen into serious disrepair and was recently condemned. to my knowledge, "lasso a falling star" has only been played live once, at this benefit and there are only a hundred or so copies of this disc in existance. she also did "ohio" and closed out the show w/a song with crow and katie lauer.

if you like the song, and how could you not, send these guys a few bucks, it will help w/karin's original intent. to help save the church:

i had the hardest time with that line and finally decided, for my own sanity, that it was:

on this stretch of trail
the sun comes up to soon

trajectory, meaning wise, i get it - singing along it don't sound so good
not saying i'm right, cause i still can't tell what that line is 'really' but i've been singing the stretch of trail line since the beginning.
what do you think?
DustyVolume
I heard it for the first time yesterday, and trajectory seemed to fit--so much so, I didn't even question it until now. I'll hear it again tonight and letcha know.

BTW, we both misspelled "TOO" smile.gif

The line that actually gave me pause was:

whoa but baby
It's something it's something
I'm watchin' walkin' out my door.

I'm thinkin' I left out a word or a syllable or something...

Whatcha think about that one?

I didn't even catch that in your post cause I focused on the trajectory/stretch of trail thing! I got'cher back on this one, yo... you're gonna give me a big ol' goober hug when you see me for this. ready?

whoa but baby
it's something, it's something
to watch it walking out my door

and i forgot another one, geez michelle...

i hear this:

spend your time like loose change
freer than a wild weed

as this:

spend your time like loose change
frayer than a wild weed

there are too many things that mess me up about 'to', and there are only 2.

HAHA - oh i crack myself up.

I think "freer" makes more sense in context and it's just Karin's crazy enunciation again.

See, I like the whole tattered and torn thoughts. But I'll never argue that woman's crazy enunciation.

Hey Jess(yka)! biggrin.gif

Go here and you can download the entire album if you want. It's 99 cents per song and it goes to a good cause.

Just an FYI, the church is now "open". And it's absolutely breath-taking. There's a lot of work to be done, but it's definitely worth it!

So beautiful.

michelle had a mix she had made for herself and, i must confess i was thoroughly impressed by her selection of songs. 5 of which were this song.

i will ever think of the times in 2004 in maui and this beautifully beautiful song.

I tossed this tune on my latest 'OtR truck mix'. I try to listen as best as I can for those few unfigure-outable words. I always kinda liked the idea of the 4th line being 'frayer than a wild weed', but the more I listen I must agree w/ Jeanne and Mark, I think it is indeed 'freer'.

Also, as hard to pin down as the the 'trajectory' suggestion is, it does make the most sense as it's pretty inaudible (to me).

QUOTE
American Heritage Dictionary -tra·jec·to·ry (trə-jěk'tə-rē) Pronunciation Key
n. pl. tra·jec·to·ries

1.
a. The path of a projectile or other moving body through space.
b. A chosen or taken course: "What died with [the assassinated leaders] was a moral trajectory, a style of aspiration" (Lance Morrow).

2.
Mathematics A curve that cuts all of a given family of curves or surfaces at the same angle.

I'd never heard this word before Mark suggested it - it's vocabularisticly fantastic.

This is seriously one incredibly lovely, lovely song. So beautiful. I mean, if they ever choose to dust it off and record it for a release someday that'd be, you know, kinda sorta awesome. smile.gif

KARIN, DO NOT READ BELOW THIS LINE

I love this song. So much so that I included it in the annual Fife & Drum Corps season end Powerpoint presentation for the past couple seasons. There's a section in each year's show that is for the graduating seniors. I thought the song fit the sentiment of that part of the presentation perfectly. Plan on continuing to use it (unless I get busted by Dogmama). I've had parents and corps members alike come and ask me about that song. I love telling them about Karin and OtR.

KARIN, YOU MAY READ ON... THANK YOU.

I have a question.

According to my file properties, I downloaded this on June 3, 2005--I can't remember from which music site, but I think it was very likely Music Itch.

The problem is this:

The file is not an MP3. Whatever it is, I cannot view the file extension (by looking at properties, etc.). All I see for a label is "file." Mysterious! I can listen to it using Winamp, but not Windows Media Player. Although my entire music library is in WMP because that is the application I most often use, I don't mind having to specially open Winamp whenever I want to listen to the lovely "Lasso."

What I do mind, however, is not being able to burn the song to mix CDs of my making. (Oldschool) Nero and CDex do not recognize/accept the file (unless in fact they do but I am a dunce and don't know how to work them properly).

Would anyone be willing to convert the file to MP3 format? Please?

Thanks in advance? smile.gif

the money raised from this all go to the restoration of a beautiful old building. also, the church is operated by a good friend of K&L's, they maintain and office and storage space there, etc...

("won't you come and sing for me" w/karin, katie lauer & ma crow & karin's solo of "ohio" are well worth the $0.99 too, as is kim's "A1A" and many others)

Looks like I will be buying it again. smile.gif

For the record, I read this thread and the concept of the music, a year ago, before I originally bought the song--and from Music Itch, I think. I am trying to research in what format Music Itch provides the products (in case they updated the format and because I don't want to buy the same weird format if that is what they are selling).

Ninety-nine cents may not seem like something worth quibbling over to some people, but I am on a budget and I prefer to direct spare funds to charities of my own choosing, e.g., Free the Slaves.

Thanks for your response though, bivester.

Edit: ""won't you come and sing for me" w/karin, katie lauer & ma crow." I bought that one, too, but have to admit I didn't keep the file for long. Different tastes, and all that. smile.gif
