Some photos from KT's show last night at Webster Hall (where KT's mum and dad were in attendance).

Pretty much the usual set list -- recent additions One Day and Ashes were both a lot of fun. I went mainly to try to get a good recording, but they weren't letting anyone upstairs last night. dry.gif I consoled myself by standing stageside with my friend & fellow KT groupie Tamara from Maryland.
WalrusOct9
Wow, nice pics Keith. smile.gif

I opted out of her show last month...would've been the 3rd time this year seeing basically the same setlist. According to Billboard she's supposed to have a new record out next Spring/early Summer, I can't wait.

Wow, great pics!

What happened to the dresses, looks like she's going rock star on us...

I have no complaints about her new outfit. wink.gif

I wasn't so crazy about the silver lamé pants myself. I had a mind to ask her to take those things off, but her parents were in the house.
WalrusOct9
I myself, have absolutely no problem with her wearing overly tight pants.

Acoustic Extravaganza is out in the stores now.
Did anyone get it while it was available fan club only?
Was wondering what your thoughts on it were.
I'll probably get it tomorrow.
The review sounds good-

QUOTE
The very worst that can be said about Acoustic Extravaganza is that it is a stop-gap between Eye to the Telescope, which was actually released in the U.K. in late 2005, and whatever comes next. Recorded after a relentless touring schedule, the tracks here were done in a small, remote Scottish studio with her band. The set includes acoustic versions of ""Universe & U,"" and ""Miniature Disasters"" from the album, a few cuts, such as ""Girl & the Ghost,"" ""Throw Me a Rope,"" and ""One Day,"" which were employed as B-sides for singles. There's also a fine, no, nearly stunning cover of Beck's ""Golden Age,"" which could have been recorded for a Ronnie Lane solo album. The rest, such as the countrified ""Ashes"" with its bold lyrics, the bluesy ballad ""Boo Hoo,"" the pastoral folk-country of ""Gone to the Dogs,"" and the minor key, shimmering snapshot ""Change"" are all first-rate. The relaxed feel of the album is, in its way, a different side of the coin from Eye to the Telescope. Without all the production and gloss, Tunstall is still smooth, and tough at the same time. The DVD that comes along with this set contains a documentary on the making of the album — this one — videos for ""Gone to the Dogs,"" ""Throw Me a Rope,"" and a little ditty called the ""Wee Bastard Pedal."" There are also a slew of photos and outtakes. In other words, this is not a simple capitalistic attempt to part you from your hard-earned cash, but more the artist reaching out to fans she didn't even know she had a year ago, and offering something intimate, gentle, fun, and worthy to make the wait easier. Remember: she's as eager to keep you as you are restless for the next installment. If anything, this little "in process" package reveals the fact that — in the over-saturated American pop culture market — Eye to the Telescope was no fluke. Tunstall's the real artifact.

just letting you know KT is on Leno tonight 12/5

I liked the shiny tights.

Damn, that is one cute scottish chick.

I do think she needs a new guitarist though. wink.gif

she was nominated for a grammy -- best female rock performance i think?? for black horse and cherry tree. smile.gif

I finally figured out how to get my DVD's on Youtube, so I thought I'd mention this here. I uploaded the new song "Hollywood Hill" from Soundstage to Youtube, in case anyone hadn't seen/heard it. Who knows if it will still sound like this when her new album comes out (this show was taped about 2 weeks after she'd written the song), but at least this is a little taster for her new LP.

(also, I uploaded some Tina Dico videos from a German TV broadcast last fall, if anyone's interested, just go to "more from this user" and scroll down a bit)

Hey Trudes, KT is playing at the Boulder Theater July 17th!
WalrusOct9
Wow...that's a really random date. I wonder if she'll do some more shows around then, since she's coming to the States to play Big Al's Live Earth thing.

It's not uncommon for artists to play a few smaller shows in the weeks or months before a new album release, so hopefully there will be a few more shows added, probably in smaller venues than she'll be playing once her record comes out.

She's playing the Highline Ballroom here July 10th. Sadly, I already have tix for Alternate Routes and Anais Mitchell at Joe's Pub that night.
WalrusOct9
Where are you getting these dates? Colorado is the only one listed on Pollstar.

My PattyPal® Nicole won two tickets in a drawing to see KT at Angel Orensanz next Monday night (she's filming the show for a forthcoming DVD), and she invited me to come with her!

I love my PattyPal® Nicole! biggrin.gif

Ummm....what happened to "Dirty Water"? I was really looking forward to hearing that song again after she played it live in the Spring of '06. "Hollywood Hill" is nowhere to be found either, unless the names of either of those songs were changed.

I probably should have posted this a few days ago. I don't know what the source for this info was, but False Alarm was reporting it late last week. I think it's really bizarre that some pre-ETTT tracks made it but none of the new songs did.

The BBC aired a new song from the album (Hold On) in both the studio version and a live version last week. Apparently KT is beatboxing into her loop pedal now, and she has two back-up singers in her band (I was really hoping that that was a one-time-only thing when I saw it at Live Earth, but they fit in better on the new single). I don't know how to go about recording the track so I haven't tried anything to get them.

...and since I know people will ask, here's a link to the blog entry I read: http://www.false-alarm.net/2007/07/12/on-air/ What, you don't read blogs in French? As far as I know there aren't any other good blogs for KT Tunstall news.
WalrusOct9
Wow...yeah, I just now realized a couple of those are Tracks In July tunes. I really hope that isn't an indication that she was short on material, especially since "Dirty Water" was such an awesome tune and seems to have gotten the axe.

Still...seems weird she'd ressurect 7-year old songs for her second record, since presumably if they were good enough for a major-label release she'd have put them on Eye To The Telescope.
danny316
I was under the impression that she had used all of the older songs she was going to use on Acoustic Extravaganza (which is actually a really good album in its own right).

On the bright side though, the order of the release dates that Wikipedia listed means that the US is likely to get bonus tracks when it finally comes out here...

I saw KT perform Little Favours and Hold On at an Artists' Den taping in NYC last Monday night. They were okay but I didn't think either are as good as Dirty Water, that is strange she left it off the new album (I wasn't a big fan of Hollywood Hill myself). She had the backup singers when I saw her, but they were totally superfluous IMO.

You can hear a performance of Hold On about 15 minutes into this BBC interview:

A nice slideshow of KT's DVD taping in NYC a few weeks ago can be seen here:

Brings back some very fine memories! smile.gif
WalrusOct9
I wonder what that DVD is for...seems odd to film a real DVD of a tour that hasn't really started yet (anyone who's seen an artist at the beginning and end of a tour can attest to the differences in performance)...I'm wondering if the filming was instead for promotional use and for the inevitable "special edition" of KT's new album that will come out 6 months after everyone's already bought the regular one.

Obviously I could be totally wrong, I'm just thinking (typing?) out loud.

I guess its out two weeks earlier in the UK, giving the album ample time to be spread for free all over the internets before its U.S. release. Yay record company logic!

I'm a little bit skeptical, but still hoping for the best with this one...
keith from ny
Whatever... hope it comes out somewhere, it was a good show!
WalrusOct9
And I'm looking forward to seeing it. smile.gif

Just pointing out my observation that the timing of the filming seems kind of odd...usually shows designated for major, separate DVD releases for a particular tour are shot after the artist/band has been out for awhile touring that material, and the audience has had a chance to become familiar with it...pre-release shows and other random gigs that are filmed tend to sometimes show up as bonus features or other odd places.

Or...an eventual KT DVD release will comprise elements from different shows taped at different times in her career, which would be kinda cool too.

Or...I could be totally full of crap. laugh.gif

So.... anyone have Drastic Fantastic yet? Saw it at the shop today and was surprised I hadn't heard about it here first. Slackers...

I dig the art. On the CD and the new website!
WalrusOct9
New album = awesome.

I've read reviews that complain about it being overproduced, but I guess that's what I like about it. I love the sound of this record...it's not too far removed from Telescope, but they obviously took a bit more time to make these songs sound the way they do, and it's great. KT isn't trying to change the musical landscape, she knows she's a pop songwriter and isn't at all apologetic for it...not sure the glammed up look really fits her, but the sound does.

Of course, the label is screwing everyone again...the wonderful 128-kbps iTunes version has two extra songs, "Bad Day" and "Mothgirl," but only if you live in the UK and only if you want Apple to dictate how you listen to your music. So presumably, in another 4-12 months, there will be a (second) 'special edition' of this album with the extra tracks, so you might want to wait awhile before plunking down the cash, and seek out some other alternatives.

But...I think these songs are going to kill live. November 18th at the Vic. biggrin.gif
Skoegahom
I hate to say this, but I'm not impressed with KT's new CD. There's not a single song on it that I think is as good as the weakest song on her first CD. To me, it sounds like someone wanting to be a pop star...someone following the industry mogul's recipe for success...

Just my 2¢ -- your mileage may vary...

Edit: BTW, this opinion comes from a guy who bought every single and/or EP she released in England (most not in the US), multiple copies of the first disc, Japanese release, Argentina release and everything released in the US.

KT's latest offereing is only available at Target. The pic above is only a cardboard slip the cover only has a small pic of KT. Here's the song listing:

Even though KT Tunstall's latest effort, "Drastic Fantastic," was released only last year, the Scottish singer/songwriter tells Billboard.com she's already reworking the material for her upcoming stateside tour in a fashion that could influence the direction of next studio effort.

"Basically, the kind of new setup, which we've never done before, is inspired from the film we did for the deluxe version of 'Drastic Fantastic,'" Tunstall says. "I'm friends with Alex James, the bassist from Blur, and he lives in this beautiful farm land in Oxfordshire and we went there and recorded a campfire set.

"So we had all of these microphones hidden in our clothes and recorded this by a fire," she continues. "We just loved playing that way, and we thought it would be a great twist of, after having done a kind of electric rock-based album, to then go back to where it started with the kind of acoustic thing."

Tunstall's next American leg, which is billed as "The Campfire Tour," begins May 3 in San Diego. She says the show will feature all acoustic instruments -- double bass, xylophone, glockenspiel, mandolin and guitars.

While Tunstall plans on touring through the fall before hitting the studio next winter, she's already thinking about a more folk/blues approach for her next album. She expects to play at least one new song, the Bob Dylan-influenced "Turn Into You," on the upcoming tour, but has reservations about giving her fans too much unreleased material.

"There are a couple of new songs I'd like to play, but I have to say while I love the Internet, the one thing I moan about is you can't really test-drive songs anymore," Tunstall says. "Because as soon as you play it, it's up there, and I don't really want it to be up on the Internet when it's not finished.

"So you get kind of nervous about playing new stuff," she says. "Also, I want the new album to be a surprise and not for everyone to know the songs already. So it's kind of juggling with that as well and making sure that if you're going to give songs away, you know that's going to happen."

Not really sure how I feel about this, given that KT never did a real tour for Drastic Fantastic. I wonder if it was her label's doing...it doesn't seem like her to release an album and then just let it die without actually supporting it on the road. I don't really pay attention to mainstream media or the radio anymore but I get the feeling the label didn't bother doing much to support her album past the first week of release...it certainly wasn't because it was a bad record.

Just thought a few people might be interested in this news if they're going to any of her upcoming shows...if I wasn't so poor I'd be going to the Ryman show next month but I just can't swing it right now.

Liberator Music, the jointly owned company between Nick Dunshea and Michael Gudinski's Liberation Music, will soon release the SoundStage series of DVDs.

The SoundStage catalogue will make available classic music performances from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Rob Thomas, Sheryl Crow, Heart, John Mayer, Billy Idol, Tori Amos, KT Tunstall, Dashboard Confessional, REO Speedwagon, Chris Isaak, America, Cyndi Lauper, Counting Crows, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, Alanis Morissette, Dan Fogelberg and Joss Stone. There are many more in the series.

"The Soundstage series brings to us a huge range of phenomenal artists to enrich our existing music repertoire; I'm very excited to present this great range of DVD's. The first titles should be ready in July and with the schedule I've seen we will have 2-3 titles per month for the next few years," Liberators Nick Dunshea said in a statement.

I remember KT's show was discussed in this thread awhile back, so I thought I'd pass this bit along, even though I got the link from a Tori news site. No clue when specific artists' shows are going to be released but this is cool news regardless. Hopefully the releases will include extra songs cut from the original broadcasts...I was at KT's taping and "Silent Sea," "False Alarm" "Through The Dark" and "One Day" were cut. We shall see.
