oooh, thanks Keith! I had heard about her cover of Tangled Up In Blue from the Patty forum and have been wanting to hear it. you wouldn't happen to have the mp3 with just the audio would you?

I do now! smile.gif

Notes on Tangled Up in Blue: I was a Dylan fan for a years, to a groupie extent although I only got to see him perform once, and it was at the Springfield, MA Civic Center back in...about 1976...with the Rollng Thunder Review. When Blood on the Tracks came out, I remember having that LP on my turntable over and over and over again, and the turntable was in my bedroom, at the foot of the beds between my older sister's and mine, right in front of the window to the back yard. Tanlged Up in Blue...that is one rich song. Later, I wound up more fully appreciating the lyrics to that song "so I drifted down to New Orleans, where my luck it was to be employed working out of a fishing boat right outside of Delacroix." I wound up living with a childhood friend the summer of 1979 and working on the Steamboat Natchez down in New Orleans, right after I'd finished a temp job in NYC for a literatry magazine.

Ah yes, tangled up in blue. I remember the night I landed in New Orleans too; got off the airplane, my friend picked me up, and we went straight to Bourbon Street: steamy with humidity, hopping with life, and jazz, of course, seeping from here and there.

I'm rambling on here with a memory; it's a happy one.

Hey all,
The Good news is it was a fabulous show at The Fox/Boulder last night.
The bad news was…she didn’t come out afterward.

I was so bummed.
Her show was very very nice. I had some doubts because after the opener (Carey Brothers..very good) the KBCO guy (sponser) came out onstage to welcome everyone. (It was jam packed (capacity 700) but I was second row center of standing people….yes we stood for 4 hours). He announced that per the artist’s request there would be no photographs allowed. Then KT took a long time to comeout. She greeted everyone and held her stomach and said something about having her first Tamale today. She made a face and said something about it being uncooked bread or such.
But then she proceeded with an excellent show.
During the show she mentioned she wasn’t wearing her usual vintage dress. To explain she said her dad is a physicist and from him she learned all about ‘angles’. She gazed down at the people in the pit…everybody laughed. She had on ripped tight jeans tucked into her usual brown strapped boots and a sparkley sequin pink sleeveless shell with black musical notes printed on it. Very pretty. She has a small tattoo on her left upper arm…I couldn't see what it was.
She said Boulder had a twin. San Francisco’s and Boulder’s radio stations knew who she was before her album was released. I have no idea what she meant.
The band members were very good looking…especially the guitar player and the bass/cello player. Hubba. The drummer was adorable and OMG so talented. The piano player was very cool as he also sang, played trumpet and manned the cymbals at times. He and the Bass player were dressed very sharp….suits or tux I’m not sure. The drummer and the guitar player were casual in jeans and tees.
I describe all this cuz no photos were taken.
As far as the music, interludes, setlist etc….if you play the NYC or Boston show…just insert Boulder where she says NYC or Boston and you got it. She hardly varied at all. Even the comments to the audience about the songs were just the same. Even the music played in the background before they came out was the same (summertime blues).
So I virtually got to see the exact same show. It was awesome and she is adorable…what a cutie and really tiny.
I really really wish I coulda had her sign some stuff but after the show Dan and I were waiting around in the lobby (where the artists usually come out) and there was no one coming so we went back in to the theater and there were a few clumps of people hanging around. We went down to the stage where the crew was still packing up the gear and asked a staff person if she was coming out. He said no, he had the word from her manager that she would not be out. We still hung around a bit until the Fox staff shooed everyone out.
I still think she is awesome but I left a bit disappointed in the restrictions, the no meet n greet and the virtual carbon copy production.
That’s all.
keith from ny
Trudes, I feel so badly about you being disappointed (again) after KT's show! I suspect she just didn't feel very well, usually she doesn't mind cameras at all and is very friendly toward the fans. Yeah, her shows don't really vary a whole lot and I hope she takes some time off soon to write some more new songs, although I see she has some gigs lined up back in the UK when she gets home.

Thanks for the thorough report!

They're replaying the Ellen that KT was on. I recorded it, yay! smile.gif
WalrusOct9
Yeah, I'm not sure how much she can vary a show with only one album out and a few b-sides...I imagine she's doing basically the same setlist in every city out of necessity more than anything else. She probably has some new songs, but right now she has to plug her record (let alone if the band has had time to really polish any new material for performance)

Then again, with eight-plus discs of material, OTR should vary their sets more too, but that's just me. wink.gif

I know it sounded like I was complaining and I apologize about that.

I enjoyed the show immensely.
For anyone who had not heard the bootlegs of the NYC or Boston shows, it was brand new and fresh. She showed no evidence in becoming tired of performing...even though she may have been ill.
With the number of shows she is doing one right after the other, it must be easier to just learn the routine and go with it for every show....less mental stress. I don't blame her at all.
After the show in Boulder she had to travel to Dallas for a show the very next night. If she and the boys were traveling by bus, that meant they needed to get on the bus and head out that night. It's nearly a thousand miles away. I totally understand.

I'd definitely recommend anyone getting to a show if they can.

More thoughts:
The Fox capacity is 700 and it ws sold out.
Does anyone happen to know the occupancy capacity of the recent venues or up-coming venues? I'm wondering if the previous venues were much smaller. I thought I heard her say on one recording there was about 150 people present...could that be?
Maybe the Fox was a bit intimidating? Dunno. I always thought it was small but it's way much bigger than say Canal Street.
bivester
birdy's is something like 250/275 capacity. and it was sold out.
WalrusOct9
Schubas (where she played in January) was sold out before I even heard she was coming...holds about 200, tops. The Park West where she's playing in a couple weeks holds about 750, although I don't think it's sold out yet.

Nice little 3/4 page article about our girl KT in the new Guitar World Acoustic (p. 16). Sorry, I don't believe there is an online version of this article. Some nice info regarding her upbringing, musical influences... not to mention a pretty sweet photo of her.... that is all. ph34r.gif

I think KT is an amazing guitarist! Very confident command of chord changes and a distinctive rhythmic style with the pick. You can tell she's really put the time in practicing to play the way she does.

Tomorrow night I'm going to a "KT Listening Party" in NYC, a promo event sponsored her label. Should be fun!

For those of you who have Direct TV check out FreeView Channel 101. They are running "KT Live from Schubas" in alternating time slots. This is from her January 24th show in Chicago. Very Cool! smile.gif

There's a DVD torrent of it on http://www.dimeadozen.org

I tried for weeks to get tickets to this show, now I'm really pissed that I missed it seeing as there's a beautiful pro-shot video of it. Schubas is a great venue, but if it's anyone you've ever heard of playing there, you'll never get tickets, it only holds maybe 200 people tops.

At the moment, there are at least 93,000 registered users at www.dimeadozen.org, the maximum allowed under DIME's current configuration.

However, free slots become available for new users daily as inactive accounts are deleted. When DIME has fewer than 93,000 registrants, new users can sign up. Please note that the statistics on DIME's web site are updated every ten minutes; therefore, you may see this message even if the web site reports fewer registered users than the maximum.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

This is an article about KT in Entertainment Weekly Magazine. Very interesting, I thought.

Just got back from her show at the Park West. Apparently it was her biggest U.S. show so far...and it was amazing. We (well, mostly kelly) got some pretty good pictures, I'll post them whenever Kel sends them to me. Played the whole album (naturally), and a new song called "Dirty Water" that was really, really good. Her next album might be just as good as the first. Me excited. smile.gif She's doing some California dates next month...if you're out there...GO. Trust me.

OK...update on the Acoustic Extravaganza pre-order.
I got the pre-order email and it linked to this page.
When I filled in my info and converted it to US dollars it came to a whopping $35.00 US currency.
No can do. Besides, maybe the DVD won't play in the US.
Shucks.
Any suggestions?

Seriously, the exchange rate sucks ass...there's dozens of things I want to buy that are only available there but the exchange rate is so bad that I just can't bring myself to do it.

Hopefully she'll find a way to make it more affordable for US fans (since there seems to be a growing number of them). She's back in June for more US dates, I'm wondering if it will be for sale at the merch table.

edit: I checked her shop, as of now it's only available with a PAL format DVD. It's all-region, but encoded in the european video format (we had a chat about this in the Tina Dico thread...same deal dry.gif ). So you could watch it on your computer but not on your TV. Just warning everyone. I'm gonna see if she starts selling it at shows...i think if enough U.S. fans email her or her management about it they'll put out a US version or find a way to get it to us at a reasonable price.

The $35 Cyberhome and Apex players one sees around generally will play and convert PAL discs for viewing on NTSC TVs. Just FYI
WalrusOct9
True. Although they're pretty crappy players as far as dealing with slightly dirty discs...if there's a spec or a tiny mark on them, the player will freeze (my friend has one of those Apex ones). You get what you pay for I guess. There's more players coming out that can do the PAL > NTSC conversion, but I didn't want to confuse Trudes anymore than I had to. smile.gif

I'm still hoping we'll see a U.S. version of this, since KT is selling a lot of records here and selling out all of her shows (Apparently "Eye To The Telescope" just went gold in the states).

I caught her, she sang Suddenly I See wth a full band. Pretty good.
She swooned when Dave kissed her hand afterwords. No interview afterwards,
Dave swatted a pinata with a baseball bat for cinco de mayo.

Darn it. That's like my 4th favourite song!

Did you record it?

Funny--we have a Cyberhome unit, and it's actually the least balky at playing dirty discs of the three players we have (the others being a Sony and whatever came with the minivan). And with frequent borrowing from the kids section at the library, we see lots of less-than-pristine discs smile.gif The Apex is supposed to do a better/smoother job with the conversion, but ours is fine for my PAL needs, such as they are.
WalrusOct9
Hmmm...i forget which brand my friend has.

My solution was to buy one of those Dell LCD TV's...I needed a new TV anyway a few years ago and it can double as a backup monitor in case my 6 1/2 year old monitor dies. But it can play PAL in its original format without any conversion, and I'm using a European Sony DVD player, so the PAL stuff looks pretty good. (but I probably have 40 or 50 PAL DVD's, so I use that stuff more than most people do)

I ordered KT's new CD/DVD combo as an import from her website, because of course I have no will power to wait for the U.S. release. Recorded over a few days in the living room of a beach house/studio on Skye Island, it's a fun collection of ten tracks, two of which are remakes of songs on Eye to the Telescope (Miniature Disasters and Universe & U). While I enjoy these laid back arrangements more than the pop sheen production on her first album, for the most part I don't think the new songs are quite as strong. This was recorded before she wrote Dirty Water, which was featured during her late winter/early spring U.S. tour. No complaints at all about the vocals, although this album still falls way short of the excitement of a live KT show IMO.

The PAL-format DVD chonicles the making of the album and also includes some outtakes and a few snippets of concert footage. It's nothing to write home about, but KT is her usual cute 'n spunky self so it's fun to watch.

I'm not sure it's worth plunking down $36 (including shipping from the UK) for, but it is a KT Tunstall album! She returns to NYC in two weeks. smile.gif
