I have been messing around with starting a blog for a couple years now. My problem is that I start one on a site and then find what I feel is a better site. Some of you have some really great blogs (both format and content). I'm really interested in setting up a nicely formatted blog and I'd like to just use a service provider rather than design and maintain my own. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Diary-x.com is my favorite journaling service. Because it is a journaling service, not a blogging service, YOU CANNOT DISPLAY MULTIPLE ENTRIES ON A SINGLE PAGE. You have complete template customization at your fingertips, some decent prefab templates if you're lazy, and a reliable site at your disposal. If something gets messed up, the founder will fix it. Paid members get image storage space. No commenting software; get an externally-hosted guestbook or commenting client if this is your desire.

For blogs, livejournal.com is one of the more popular sites. Excellent commenting system, lots of options... but there's far more cool stuff to be had if you pay, which I don't.

xanga.com -- the only thing to really recommend xanga is xangazon, which allows you to add images of amazon.com products to your blog. That is, if you want your blog to be a running commercial break. Maybe if you're a mainstream music critic.

blogger.com is another popular one, but I've never used it, so I can't say much.

MySpace.com just pisses me off. Even more limiting than Xanga, with weird loading issues on my connection/browser.

And there are many more....

Ugh. Avoid Xanga.

I'm was a livejournal user but I prefer WordPress as a blogging software. The software is totally free and there are many many themes to choose from, but you have to have a place to install the software.

Not sure why you would want only one entry per page, Steph....

Blogger is fine I guess... I think it's pretty limiting what you can do with it... but some people like it.

LiveJournal is probably your best option if you want something for nothing. smile.gif

I use blogger and am happy with it.

Thanks for the input. After reading a couple of your posts, I remembered that I had tried Blogger about a year and a half ago. After going back and changing templates and such, it's back up and running.

Thanks again,
John

Hey thanks. I checked out a number of people's blog/diaries here and I think I can make it work. I may have some questions for you though, so I may drop you a PM or three. blink.gif

Ok, thanks! There's a link to it in my "signature" here, also in my profile. Not much on it as yet, but I'm workin' on it. Thanks again!

I like Blogger. It's quite easy ... if I can use it, anyone can!

: )

Though they DO seem to change the formatting stuff every couple of months or so ... or at least they did for a while there.

Thanks Lynne (and everyone who helped with this). Not really a big deal, but I do appreciate the input.
