hi all,

have you ever brought your baby to an otr concert?
ok, i have this dilemma.
i have a 5 month old baby and i really want to go to the sept 8th tla show in philly.
i wanted to see them last time they were in the northeast, i was pregnant, and when i posted on here it was not recommended that i go to the venue since there would be no seats and i was ready to pop.
i am really going thru withdrawels. once when i was preggo i emailed the band and they said children were welcome. the tla said i could bring my son if i wanted (but i think the guy thought i was nuts)
evan, my 5 month old, loves music and loves over the rhine, of course. there will be seating at the tla for the show.
so what would you do? if getting a sitter is out of the question. would you and your hubby bring your baby to an over the rhine concert or just stay home and hope to catch them on their next trip out?

thanks

i think it would depend on the situation, venue, etc. i wouldn't hesitate to do it in a family friendly environment, as stiv and amanda did in louisville and are doing @ moonlite and paige was great. it worked out well. but personally, i would hesitate to do so in a bar type setting. i think it would also depend on the kids. one of the things that i enjoy and respect about OtR shows is that you actually (in most cases) get to listen, that the crowds are quiet and respectful of the band and the music. i know as a paying patron at a show i would be pretty upset if there were kids talking, fidgiting/playing around and/or crying and disrupting my (and others) enjoyment of the show, that's not fair. i'm not trying to be mean, just honest. i think it depends on the kids, the venue and the situation...

Stefani,
I say bring him.
You have all the approvals...I think it's cool to introduce children to 'adult' events.
I think it will get him used to how to act in these settings.
But, he's very young...too young to understand about not crying or fussing...so maybe if you situate yourself near the aisle or back so you can slip out if need be for a few minutes.
Or...maybe he'll be immortalized on a bootleg recording!

As a dad, Stefani, I agree ... just watch the little tender eardrums and the second-hand smoke.

If my daughter's mom is reading this, I'm sure she's glad Frank Zappa isn't touring anymore!

If this is a non smoking show, I say Bring 'im! Cuz this will be a good one to bring a baby to since they're supporting their most "low-key" recording yet! No crashing drums or loud jams on this tour. ohmy.gif)

let us know what you do! ohmy.gif)

You're a lot braver than I am to bring a baby to TLA! I can certainly sympathize with your withdrawal though.

Best of luck!

hi
thank you all for your speedy replies.

the tla will be having reserved seating at this show. i would not even think of bringing him if it weren't seated.

as for smoking. i still have to check with the band on that since they make the decision. if smoking is allowed we most likely won't go.

and thanks for letting me know that it is a low key tour. i had a feeling....from the sound of the cd and all.

and....i totally would not want to ruin anyones show experience. my husband and i would take turns bringing him outside if he were crying.
how bout cooing??? smile.gif
anyway, i appreciate the responses and look forward to reading more....
and my hubby and i will think about it....

by the way...this gets me thinking....otr should make some baby t shirts or onesies.

thanks again all....

re the noise: you can bring little baby earplugs with you for times when the band is loud.
