Trudes,

I was talking with a gentleman from LaJunta Colorado this morning and he said to me: "when are you gonna send some of your cool weather down this way?"

Gosh... ...I feel like i'm in Arizona.

An artist friend lives near Tuscon. I just finished a little messaging with him.. His thermometer on the garage indicates 105 at this moment and its cloudy and humid (as humid goes in AZ). A couple of weeks ago we were talking on the phone and I complained about bicycling in the 90 degree humidity. He simply commented that at that moment (about 6pm his time) it was 117 degrees and he was hoping the night time temps might drop below 100.
coldteablues
How I wish the humidity level here was 36%. Today the temp is in the 90's with a humidity level of 90%. Indiana weather is simply horrible in the summertime.

it certainly is hot and humid and muggy outside...i usually don't mind the heat, but this is slightly excruitiating. i also typically do not drive with the air conditioning on unless i'm on the interstate, but i've taken to using my air conditioning in my car as well (at least i don't have to use my hairbrush as much!).

i was in florida about a month ago on vacation, and i swear it was cooler there than it was in either west virginia *or* pennsylvania. there's just something wrong with that.

i am exceptionally glad that my mother has a season pass to the pool, and that she let's me sometimes pretend that i'm her...
Trudes
I do appreciate the low humidity.
But, with low humidity, hot temps and no rain fro quite a while, the forest fire danger is horrid.
There are already a few smaller fires raging in Colorado and one firefighting helicopter crash.
WalrusOct9
I don't think I've missed anything as much as I currently miss living in a place that has air conditioning.
Daneel
i can't believe you guys are making FL seem relatively cool. it's been in the high 80s mostly, but with about 90% humidity i'd guess. basically, sweat will not evaporate. ever. then it rains.

It's one in the morning, and the weather is relatively mild: 64% humidity, twenty-four degrees Celsius. I live on the fourth floor, though, with no air conditioning, so I sweat a bit more than I perhaps should. *shrugs* It goes with summer. I still love summer. smile.gif

yesterday was one of those ozone level days where you are supposed to avoid being outside.

of course, it was the scheduled pirate game for the day care centers in the area (lord, do they SUCK), so we took 22 kids, ages 5 - 12 to the baseball game. our seats were not in the shade, and hardly any of the kids parents had sent in sunscreen.

why do people not realize how important sunscreen is?

i just remember last summer i had a group of two and half year olds, and i expected ezekiel's mom to send in sunscreen...she was close to being psychotic in her care for her son. and she kept not bringing it in. i asked her about it one day, and she said, "i don't think he needs it." i put my hand on her shoulder and said, "trish, black people can get skin cancer, too."

that was all she needed to hear. he had sunscreen the next day. smile.gif

people laughed at me for making climate a big reason to hightail it out of tallahassee when i started hunting for other jobs. but there's nothing like that heavy, humid heat that steals your breath! or that makes chia-pet hair--does that to me too. wink.gif

now, it's hot here. stifling etc. but i'm near the mountains enough to sweat in the shade of trees at least. rolleyes.gif near rivers and lakes too so that's nice.

Special Weather Statement

Expires 11:30 PM EDT on July 21, 2005

Statement as of 10:18 AM EDT on July 21, 2005

... Heat indices will approach 100 late this afternoon...

Temperatures will top out around 90 late this afternoon with dew
points in the lower 70s. The combination of projected temperature
and dew point will create a heat index between 95 and 100
degrees. The heat index is a way of measuring how hot it really
feels when temperature and dew point are combined. Readings over 95
make it feel sticky and muggy.

If spending time outdoors this afternoon drink plenty of water and
non-alcoholic fluids. Direct sunlight can add up to 10 degrees to
the heat index.

Be careful how you use your fans. A fan pointed directly at a
person may dehydrate the person by removing moisture from the
skin. Use a circulating fan instead to move air through the room.

but I can't imagine how the people in these jobs are surviving this week:

Firemen
Roofers
Highway construction (like tarring roads)
Housepainters, masons
Farm workers in fields
Mowers
Steelworkers
Beach lifeguards

Yeah, believe it or not, the fine city of Centerville decided to start a whole mess of road re-paving yesterday, including two major stretches of my normal daily commute. This morning, someone obviously infinitely wiser than I, decided they should tear up a major intersection at 8 am, during peak traffic hour. Thus it took me 10 minutes to move 100 feet and turn a corner, when I was 300 feet from the library. angry.gif

Okay, so maybe that's a pet peeve. But tomorrow I'm taking an alternate route to work...

I feel for those of you in the mid-west. Sounds like that crappy heat wave on the west has moved its way over you.

It's funny the different variables that make it so hot. Humidity is rarely a variable out here. But, because San Diego is a desert area, the UV index tends to be high. Today it's a 9. Time for some anti-melanoma lotion. wink.gif
