ok, this won't be a recap of the great kheer debacle of early 2005... sorry, Fred...

DECADENT CHAI TEA
Makes 4 (8 oz) servings

Ingredients
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 4 chai flavoured tea bags (I use the Celestial Seasonings "Mountain Chai" variety... some may say this is the cheater way of chai-making... eh, whatever... it still goes down in my belly the same)
  • 1/2 pint (8 oz) of half and half (or light cream)
  • 1/4 cup of sugar (granulated, raw, pink, blue, yellow, whatever)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
In large pot, pour boiling water over tea bags; cover and steep 4 minutes. Remove tea bags. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, heat the cream, sugar and vanilla over medium heat, stirring occassionally until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the mixture into the hot tea. Add ice, whip cream, or lawn clippings (to taste).

For the dieters... the real sugar but fat free half-n-half variety (sans lawn clippings) yields this per 8 oz serving ~ only 90 calories / 0g fat / 18.6g carb.

drinking it now...

One man's debacle is this same man's loss of a perfectly good piece of Visionware.

I just got off the phone with Drew ... he wants to move this to the Membership Bios thread, and frankly ... I have no witty punchline here.

Can't wait to try it!

My phonecall with Drew, he said that he wants to include this thread as part of a functioning 'Administration Team' for the Orchard.

Made it last night, Dan ... Starbucks quality. Though my teabags, Good Earth brand, did not give that Zsa-Zsing! that Chai can have. So less bite than I thought, but very, very tasty!

Oh, that's unfortunate.

Starbucks makes substandard chai, if you ask me...

I think you meant... "better than Starbucks quality."

I bet it would taste better if you got your own masala black, and a bag of chai spice. smile.gif

Decadent Splenda-mate Orange Chamomile Tea

In an act of husbandly care (Joy starts teaching tomorrow, I start Wednesday) I thought to pamper my beloved with this lovely sounding recipe.

Oh, how I have fallen.

So, there's no half and half or light creme (that I can identify as the non-chef type person that I am) so I decide to put in French Vanilla Coffee Mate. That'll work, right? Uhh...

Then, I put 4 or 5 packets of Splenda, but that barely filled the thing up to a 1/6th, so I busted in some real white sugar for the next portion.

All out of Chai tea...so I substituted Orange Chamomile Green Tea.

And, I'm sure this tastes NOTHING like Dan's original recipe, it actually tasted ok. (And Joy appreciated the gesture--score 1, husband). smile.gif

Thanks for the recipe.

Hah, we're on the same wavelength! I'm just about to add some French Vanilla to my Bigelow Sweet Dreams!

I like cream in tea, actually...
