So is anyone else watching this? I was a big INXS fan in high school--Kick absolutely amazed me growing up and I was very truly saddened by Michael's passing. As I write this is I've only seen the first five minutes or so. I'm excited, but at the same time I'm afraid it will make me lose respect for the band and taint my memories... *crossing my fingers*
PS--Dave Navarro always looks to me like he is wearing make-up...

I have to say I think I'm liking it so far... There definitely are some that I like less than others, but overall they are all awesome! Even with the finalists in American Idol there have always been some that were painful to watch, but I'd pay to see any of these folks. I think my favorites so far are Deena (who did the Janis Joplin song) and Ty (the Living Color guy). I think I'm hooked!

I would rather forget about INXS. I didn't even like them when I was in high school - during the height of their popularity. Of course the crap I was listening to back then wasn't any better.

I love INXS but I can't really think of much that the band could do that would be more disgraceful to Michael Hutchence. I mean, if they want to continue on with a new singer, that's fine, but this seems such a cheap and tasteless way to go about it.

INXS is one of my favorite bands. I have loved them since I was a kid. I think I agree with Steve, this is a disgrace to Michael the way they are going about finding a new singer. I hope it works out and they find a good person, I knew they had been looking for a while. No one can replace Hutchence though IMO.
I was very excited to see the band members again, but it made me sad not seeing Michael. I really miss him.

I watched the show last night...It had it's funny moments. Some of the singers were OK, some were just plain awful. I can't picture any of them fronting INXS though.

I disagree a little about this show being a disgrace to Michael. I don't feel like the band owes him anything. He is the one who screwed them over. I'm not trying to be too harsh here, but look at it from their perspective: he essentially made them unable to continue with the business they had spent 20 years of their lives developing. And it's not like he was the essence of the band either--the Farriss brothers wrote their music, and Michael only wrote lyrics to about half of their songs. He contributed, sure, but I think he was more of a David Lee Roth than a Jim Morrison. The Doors ended with Jim's death--without him there was nothing else, but Van Halen moved on and, at least in my eyes, had some songs with Sammy Hagar that were as good as their earlier stuff. I like that none of the singers they are auditioning are "replacement Michaels." Every single one of them has a very strong sense of self. This new stage of the band will be something new and different. By doing the search in public, I think they are also giving Michael's fans a bit of a voice. I'm sure many of them just want the band to end, but I don't think that is fair to the rest of the group. Also, doing it this way puts the band back in the public eye, and exposes a new generation to some really great tunes. Anyway...just my $0.02.

I can't get past that this once really good band (I saw them live at least twice in large venues) would subject themselves to a game show. Do they really think they'll sell a lot of records? I mean, if the show fails to garner decent ratings, it's a non-event, if it does great, will it mean large record sales? I can't imagine it would.
If it does mean monster sales, does that mean the entire show was one big infomercial?

You know, I'm still really liking this show! At this point I really think there are only four serious competitiors...Deanna, Jordis, Daphna and Ty. Ty has the charisma to front the band, but I think they might be afraid of him overshadowing them. I like the idea of them choosing a woman--and Jordis is amazing, but I don't know that they would actually make that big of a step away from before. We'll see...

I'm hooked. And as far as this being a disgrace to MH--pshaw. Hutchence was a great singer, but masturbating while strangulating yourself, well, that's just bad judgement. I don't think anyone could disgrace him any more than he disgraced himself and his fans by being so selfish.

You are right. I love INXS for the band and thier talent, not just MH. After watching the show, I think the Band will make the best choice for a new singer. I respect them for wanting to move on with thier career. Even if I dont like the new stuff/singer, I have the old stuff.

I thought the three performances last night were pretty weak. I guess that would be expected as they were the three least-liked, but it was the first episode so far for which I really didn't care. At least the Mick Jagger wannabe got dumped--he annoyed me to no end!

Yes. I like mowhawk guy (Ty I think), dreds girl (Jordis?), and sexy voice blond girl (Dana?). JD can sing, but I don't like much else about him--the comment he made from the stage was not malicious, he was just faltering for words and that came out--I believe the remark was innocent.
And I agree, the Mick Jagger wannabe was creepy/scary with those teeth, eyes and hair. eeee, what a combo!

I've noticed that the editting of this show is different than the other Mark Burnette shows I've watched--normally they encourage backstabbing or whatever, but the two people (Suzy in episode one and JD last week) that have done anything to get themselves an advantage have been presented as total jackasses. Granted, they may actually be jackasses, but they could easily have been edited to look like normal folks. Anyway...Ty continued to amaze me tonight. "Everybody Hurts" was amazing. I also *really* liked Mig's version of "Lola." I was pissed that the band ripped on him a little for it. I'm glad JD fell on his face with "We are the Champions" but I bet that when he gets booted tomorrow (like there is any doubt at this point) he will try and blame her instead of realizing that INXS thinks he's an ass and saw an opportunity to boot him. My other favorites were underwhelming tonight--Deanna, Jordis, Daphna, and Brandon have all sounded better (I seem to have a lot of favorites!). The ones I like less sounded decent (Jessica, Marty and Suzy). Oh well...I'll just be pissed if anyone other than JD goes home tomorrow!

DAMN!!!! I really liked Daphna. I am personally offended that she got dumped instead of JD or Jessica. Heather's going didn't really bother me--she just never impressed me with much of a rock-star look. I should add that I prefered Daphna's initial Goth-girl image. Hiding her eyes behind her bangs and eye-liner really worked for her. Why did she have to go? Ugh, I'm going to be crabby tonight!

Her voice was ok, but she just seemed so pathetic as a person that seeing her suffer on TV every week made me cringe. I was a little surprised that Ty was one of the bottom 3 this week--I realize that his performance last night was his worst, but come on people!!! We're all on the same page, obviously. And Jordis is young--like 24 or something--so she will have a great future ahead of her regardless.
Speaking of tonight's song, I too think it was better than last night's. Was anyone a fan of this song before? I can't even remember hearing Bowie's version, and now, especially, I can't imagine him actually doing it better.

After Tuesday night, Jordis officially became my favorite. She blew me away both nights with "The Man Who Sold the World." Wednesday morning it was in my head all day, but with Kurt Cobain's voice. After last night, though, that song will always belong to her (in my mind).
However, I don't want her to win. I just want her to stay in long enough to get her own record deal. She's the only one I the show I'd spend money to listen to.

So...first of all...I'm annoyed that they moved the Reality portion of the show to VH1--my lame-ass cable doesn't carry VH1 so I had to miss everyone getting pissed at JD yet again. But moving on to today's episode...Jordis wasn't too impressive tonight. I really only think that Brandon could have pulled off "Layla." Jessica was awful with Nirvana. I thought JD really sucked with "Crazy" (I would have loved to hear Ty do Seal...) but I'm biased and hate pretty much everything he does. Suzy surprised me with "Losing My Religion"--that was amazing. I was expecting her to be boring... I like Deanna, and as Dave said she looked amazingly hot tonight, but I think her talent is very narrow--she does an amazing Melissa Ethridge and anything else she can rip out, but she doesn't slow down well. I don't think I could hear her doing justice to "Never Tear Us Apart." I've changed my mind as to who I think will win--while I love Jordis and Ty and think that they could really take INXS into exciting new directions, Mig is the safe choice. He's a little older, very charismatic, seems to get the concept of a group (which obviously is quite important since the winner is promised a tour with the band), and is Australian. He's not going to piss off any old fans and his popularity on the show will maybe bring in a few new ones... We'll see!

I can totally see Ty winning, as can I, to a lesser degree, see Jordis. The rest do not have what it takes to lead INXS as I know the band to be now.
Now if they want to take off in a new direction, I can see Mig and maybe, possibly even Marty.
The rest are just fodder to be eliminated one by one, week by week.

I don't like Mig. I think he's a good singer, but I think his wanting it so much and proclaiming it is going to screw him in the end.
I really liked what Marty did tonight. I think he just made himself a contendor. Ty did great too, and my wife Joy was equally impressed with Suzy's performance tonight.
Seal's song got screwed. Don't do Seal unless you're a) Seal or

Jordis was not as good last night, but she still got a couple of votes from me. The best of the night I thought was Ty.
While I thought what Marty did was really good, I'm not sure that is what he should have done when auditioning to be the lead singer of an established band. Maybe that's just me. INXS seemed to like it though, so what do I know.
The rest were blah! JD as usual took a great song and murdered it! Jessica for once sang with a good range in her vocals..on the one song that didn't need it! Who were the rest? I don't remember any of them..

Great performances tonight! Mig was *so* good--I think his "Baby I Love Your Way" was better than Lisa Bonet's in "High Fidelity." Jordis continues to rock--"Knocking on Heaven's Door" was great (but didn't the first chick to get booted sing it on the first show?). I loved Marty's "Hit Me Baby One More Time" (I didn't think I would ever say that phrase!). Despite what Dave said I still really liked Deanna's "I Can't Make You Love Me." The only ones I didn't care for were Ty's "Maggie May"--he used way too much vibrato tonight, and JD's song. Of course, I can't stand the guy and his voice is so weird that anything he does annoys me. Anyway...I was impressed tonight!
DustyVolume
Aug 16 2005, 11:16 PM
Ty sounded like he was chanelling Tom Jones when he sang Maggie May--not good. Jordis was "meh" to me tonight, as was Susie. Mig was prolly the best, and Jessica, prolly the worst. It's too bad she's gonna get booted tomorrow, cuz I really like her personally--from what I've seen.
And Deanna, just reminds me of one of the coolest people that you'd prolly ever meet. I like her personality too.
