Full Version: OtR memorabilia on Ebay

Hi,

I wasn't sure where I should post this, but I thought you ought to know that I'm trying my hand at selling something on Ebay. Remember those Eve trading cards? Well, I've got an extra pack, so I thought someone else might enjoy it. I'm not sure how to tell you how to find it; search on "Over the Rhine Eve Trading Cards", I suppose. Can you tell I haven't used ebay much? :-)

If this goes well, I'll be putting a whole bunch of early-90s-era OtR stuff (t-shirts, mostly) up there for sale. I just moved, and I'm trying to clean house. It's been sitting in my basement for ten years; it might as well go to someone else who'll appreciate it.

So, if there are any OtR archivists out there who don't have the trading cards yet, this is for you.

Are you "drdonsmith" on ebay? And if yes, are you the Don Smith of Rent-a-Don fame? AKA dasmith? AKA the ex-orchard gatekeeper, now turned astrophysicist?

And if you're not, then I couldn't find your cards on ebay?

We are very interested in tee-shirts in very good/fine condition in L & XL sizes? Do you have any that are what we are looking for? Thanks...
DustyVolume

That would be me. Except I was an Astrophysicist *before* I ran the Imaginary
Apple Orchard.

I was just unpacking the photo albums the other day, and saw the pictures from
the rent-a-don weekend. What a hoot that was.

Kylie Jo figured out it was me, so I'm not trying to be anonymous any more. :-)
Not that I was trying very hard. I just wasn't signing my posts, just as a little game
to see if anyone would notice it was me. Although there are probably only a half-dozen
people on the forum who'd even care. Ah, so fleeting is fame. :-) ;-) :-P :-)

help me understand what you both are talking about! what was the imaginary apple orchard, before this here orchard? in what capacity and HOW was don its gatekeeper?

this talk reminds me just how much of a newbie i am ... and if bivester considers himself an "oldbie" (cracked me up, bill!) -- then i've got a lot of catching up to do... wink.gif

Don was the webmaster of the first official OTR web site, The Imaginary Apple Orchard. Courtesy of the Internet Wayback Machine, you can see & access parts of it here : http://web.archive.org/web/19970520065335/...h/OtR/main.html

There's some yellow text on the main page that you can read if you highlight it with your cursor. Some of the links will take you places and others won't, but it's a blast from the past.

thanks so much, jeanne!

Holee Smokes! I had no idea that was around! Wow, that takes me back.
And an old version of the Web Orchard, at that. The reason for the yellow
text was that there was a dark background image behind the text which was
not preserved. The real irony is that image of Karin from the 96 Xmas show
was only up on the page for a short time, before we took it down because it
didn't look as professional as the photos on the rest of the site. And *that's*
the moment that gets preserved. How ironic.

Been good, although I haven't been overseas in over a year! Gasp! :-)
Went to Sweden last year (http://www.rotse.net/dasmith/photos), but
have been too busy since then. I did get married and move to North
Carolina, though. We're hoping to go to New Zealand for a honeymoon
over the December holidays, and I want to take my wife over to Germany
next summer so she can meet all my German friends. I'm starting as a
Physics Professor at Guilford College next month. Which reminds me, I
really need to finish the book chapter I'm trying to write and start preparing
my lessons for the fall! Dang, the summer goes fast. But I'm keeping busy.
