I don't know if someone already brought this up, but I was wondering if it might be possible to add a "Books" category to the Entertainment Forum--it's so great to read everyone's opinions on movies/music/TV and it would sure be cool to have a place to do the same for books. Drew, is that your call? What do ya think?

As a notorious bibliophile, I second the motion. Please? Pretty pretty pretty please?

Yes...YES !!!
I need a recommendation right now...I just finished 'Girl With a Pearl Earring and I need to know which Tracy Chevalier book to read next.
My favorite author is Anne Lamott and I have read every one of her books. Anyone recommend an author who writes similarly to her?

Trudes-
I adore Anne Lamott! I don't think there is anyone like her, that I know of. I know when I got to the end of her books I was very sad. If you haven't already, you might go to
Salon.com and search the archives for her name--she writes essays for them periodically.
Just an aside, she spoke at the Faith & Writing conference at Calvin College a few years ago, and K & L performed with Buddy and Julie Miller afterwards . . . I could have died happy that night, let me tell you.
See, we really
do need a proper place to talk about books and writers . . .

Sure... It's my call.
And it's done!
Enjoy the new category, and let me know of anything else!

Franny - I was at that festival too! I wasn't even into OTR then, actually. Received my first OTR cd later that spring. But I was wowed by Anne Lamott for sure. She was phenomenal. She's my favorite writer ever.

Wow, that's cool that you were there too, Bethany . . . wasn't it great? Anne was a treat. I really wish I could go to the festival this year--Frederick Buechner, Douglas Coupland, and Patricia Hampl, among others. I'm terribly sad to miss hearing them.

I shall be there (I live here after all) and I hope that it will be as thrilling as I want it to be. I'm super-stoked to see Buechner. And we have some of our favorite poets reading for our Jazz Vespers service, and I'm really excited about that.

Whoa, I am so jealous of you. After it's over, you think you could post something on the highlights of the festival? I would love to hear about it (so would others, I imagine). Jazz Vespers, eh? Sounds interesting. I'd like to talk more about Buechner, but I think I'll stop hijacking this thread and start a new topic in Books . . .

Oh, Bethany. I noticed Dennison Witmere's website says he'll be performing there. A freind of mine interveiwed him a while back, and I talked with him for a bit, nice guy.
Anyway, if you see him, ask about what his most ummm, unusual, show was. It's quite a story.
