Full Version: Have a Seat....

Trudes
Does your choice vary? Never vary? Ever give this a thought?
Student or not, we've all had to make the choice at some point.
otrfan
I always take the first seat I can find closest to the door....
bivester
i do a lot of these meetings. i like to sit towards the back of the room and on the aisle. i don't like "middle seats".

I need to be somewhere that makes me pay attention (very short attention span) so i sit somewhere near center, but I also need to be far enough back so that if I am obviously spacing out everyone else doesn't have to witness it. Usually middle/center works, until I fall asleep and fall out of my chair (yes, this has happened).
Trudes
I was just wondering, if instead of a lecture hall, it was a movie theater and it was a film that you were really looking forward to seeing.

Would your seat choice be the same?
80% Angel
Mine would. Generally I like to be in the center of what is going on.
Aaron
In a class, I generally end up by a window. Usually in the middle or the back. If it is the first class in the morning, I usually end(ed) up taking whatever seat was left (because I almost always got to class late).
In stadium style classrooms,(raised rows in a quarter circle) I usually end up dead center of the room.
I have been known to (more than once) change where I sat in order to sit near a girl I thought was cute.

In movie theaters, I always sit in the fifth or sixth row, center.
joshua
usually don't pay attention to this....

interesting point about the theatre, trudes. i voted middle end wich would be true of most any situation except movies. movies tend to be middle center.

if other people are already there, that throws a wrench in my system. then i go for an aisle away from people, thanks to my introverted persuasions.

if i'm breaking out of my shell and fighting the crowds at a concert, i just go for the best seat available at the time, period.
coldteablues
I said front and center. If it's a concert that's where I want to be. At the movies, I prefer middle row, aisle seat.

@ movies i like the 3rd or 4th row. if the theatre is crowded, i'll sit on the aisle closest to the center, if not, i'll move towards the middle. i hate (HATE!) to sit in confined/restricted seats...the middle, middle airplane seats, @ tables, concerts, movies, etc.
keith from ny
close to the front, on an aisle if it's not too far from center
drebro
Middle row, center. But I am rarely the first one there, so I usually sit near the back, or where I might have a chance to interact with a hottie, without getting so close as to make me nervous smile.gif .
pico de gallo
Well, it never matters to me. I pick a seat anywhere. Actually, I used to piss of professors by picking a different seat each time I came to class.

Yeah, I was always one of those students (like that's a shock, right?). smile.gif
kay anthony
all of out podiums are always in a corner in the front of the room, and so I almost always sit the 2nd or thrid row back (depending on the size of the class room, 2/3 of the length of the row away from the professor.

In a movie theatre, 2/3 of the way back, if the theatre was three sections of seating, on the end of the center section, if it onlt has one block of seating, then 2/3 of the way back as close to dead center as possible.

I always feel at my most comfortable whenever I'm two-thirds of what ever distance there is away from the subject.

I never really thought about it before, but it now occurs to me that this might be 'odd'
Lynne
Because this is for a lecture, and I'm early: Front and center for me! Otherwise, in a large lecture hall, I would probably head toward the middle or back.

I would also prefer a front-center seat for a concert; otherwise, I want to be in the next-best seat, in terms of being able to see/hear the performance (closer isn't always better, espec. if I'm going to have people standing right in front of me the whole night).

At movies: My absolute favorite thing in the world -- well, when it comes to seeing movies, anyways! -- is when I can have the theater "all to myself." Then I will find a spot about a third of the way or halfway down, right smack-dab in the middle (I've even been known to count seats, just to be sure!), sit back and enjoy the show.

What I cannot understand, for THE LIFE OF ME, is how I can arrive early, find my perfect seat (in a nearly empty theater), get settled in and STILL have someone sit RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! Like there aren't any other seats in the theater! Gimme a break!

(This is one of the main reasons I ADORE stadium seating!)

Interesting. These are usually my preferences, too. (And my vote, too.) For concerts, it might depend on the venue for me, too; I have favorite seats that aren't right up front in a couple of places.

Well, yeah, I AM short (5-foot-3), but it's not so much a "not being able to see over the hair" thing -- though, granted, I've never sat behind your "gigantic, afroed, austrolopithicus head," Fred! -- as it is a "WTF, the theater is almost empty, please allow me to enjoy a 5-seat-by-3-rows amount of personal space, all-righty??!" thing!

I think Cher's right: This entire THREAD is testing my bubble!!!

: )

And I suspect I am failing, BIGtime!!!

I gotta sit by the window. If the class is totally boring then I can look out the window and it makes time go quicker. smile.gif

Eh, I just wanted to call you short and see where it took me!

yet another question to confirm my inconsistancy.
sometimes, if i'm feeling brave, i'll sit front and center. but mostly i like to sit middle-ish. i don't like the thought of folks watching me from the back... makes me feel self-consious. i mean, what if my underwear are showing or somethin'?
at the movies, i don't have much of a preference. except the theatre in my hometown... there's a row of seats with a railing in front of them, and therefore i can kick back and put my feet up.

and a big ol' holla back to Lynne for the folks sitting rite in my view of whatever is going on! nazi jerks.
taliendo
In a class setting, I usually take a window seat. It aids in the daydreaming when my attention has been completely pulled away from whatever the speaker might be saying.

At the movies, I prefer to be in the middle, center. It's just a good seat for viewing and listening to a movie.
michelle
for a class i chose 'middle row, center' but it's really a few rows from the front between the middle and end seats. i'm not picky on which side.

for movies i like the back two rows. back row being a favorite. usually i'll sit in the center but end seats don't bug me. just be in the back.

airplanes - i like window seats.
danny316
I think I just sit near the door, unless I have plans for a certain seat. Oddly enough, I tend to sit as many seats into a row as rows away from the door (but I rarely notice doing this).
BlondeDynamite
If I'm feeling antisocial that day I would sit in back, and if I'm not then I'd sit middle/front center.
pailblueyes
i like window seats where ever i go. i like looking outside.
pulpexploder
I'm the only one that chose the seat next to the hottie?? Seriously, what's the deal with that?

i sat by a window in my statistics class in college. on halloween i was doing my normal day dreaming, when i saw a large leprechaun skipping and waving his hands in the air as he went by. i burst out laughing. the teacher stopped the class to ask me what was so funny. unsure.gif try to explain that one without getting tested for drugs.
