Looking forward to your review of it, Trudes.
Cher
Cher...sorry I am so late with a response to this.
(Spoiler)One of the saddest scenes in this movie for me was Sam sitting at his kitchen table, flowers in hand, waiting for 10 o'clock so he could make his phone call to his ex-wife, who had casually said (paraphrased) 'Call me after 10 on Sunday and we'll see'.
He had been wanting to come and visit his kids.
This poor, pathetic loser was living his life the way he thought he was supposed to. His ideals were sometimes unrealistic and his naivety so sad.
He expected truths from everyone...
As his disappointments mounted, his desperation swelled. His actions in response to continued failures further perpetuated his decline as he became viewed by others as a weirdo....not worthy of a break.
I think he rationalized his actions by reflecting on all the disappointing failures in his life and (in his mind) the injustice of his good intentions never being rewarded...while lying and arrogance seemed to benefit.
Of course he was horribly wrong to act-out on his anger. At his lowest point, he was indeed a deranged soul.
But I felt sorry for him. I consider his action an extreme result of mental abuse taken personally.
Just my thoughts.
Has anyone else seen this movie?
