OK.... those of us who attended the Nashville show heard and saw something a little different.

I found it rather intriguing, could have gone for a little less whistling, but nonetheless I still liked it.

I'm curious to know others thoughts.

LOL!!

comment 1: THAT BOY SHO COULD WHISTLE!

comment two: BUT WHISTLING IN EVERY SONG GETS TO BE A LITTLE MUCH!!

comment 3: he reminded me of a cross between rufus w, beck, and bowie with a glockenspiel

comment 4: liked his voice - but DAMN! that whistling!

comment 5: i think more musicians need to learn the art of playing an instrument, singing, and patting their heads at the same time.

i'm sure i could think of more but i'm getting medicated today to get the DAMN whistling out of my phucking head!!

that's all,

Thankfully, his name wasn't Andrew Chimpanzee. blink.gif

Ahhhh.. the whistling keeps going through my head.

the first whistling song, i assumed it was just because he was missing someone from the band and an instrument, similar to kim and her trumpet impersonation-which is great. but it just kept on coming. huh.gif

i was impressed with his abilities, though. i've never seen anyone record one instrument on the spot then replay that recording in the song as needed, the way he did with the violin using all those foot pedals and buttons. i'm sure its common, i had just never seen it live like that. the drummer was good too, drumming with the right hand, keyboarding with the left.

the poll should be, what was worse or more irritating;

a: his damn incessant whistling?
b: his damn incessant twitching?

too bad too, the guy has a beautiful voice and was obviously a very talented musician, but lyrically his music did nothing for me and that damn whistling and twitching on stage drove me nuts...

(*think all of that whistling is somehow related to his name being "bird"?, if so...pretty lame gimmick.)

Uh, yeah... I liked his voice... but he should be re-directed creatively.

Sometimes, at nite, I can still hear the whistling.

I've never seen Andrew Bird, but Vic Wooten sometimes does this in his shows with his brothers during his bass guitar solos. He'll start playing a simple riff for 4 bars and sample it, then play it back while playing & recording another riff on top of it, etc., sometimes continuing themes he started in the previous sample, and keep layering the samples until he has what sounds like a funky 16-part bass orchestra going. It's pretty amazing.

i had never heard him before sunday night, but i thought he was great! he is the best whister i have ever heard, i wish i could whistle like that! however, i don't think i'll ever buy one of his cds.

I must admit... I just listened to his latest cd... The Mysterious Production of Eggs... not nearly as much whistling going on. In fact.. on the whole cd there was probably whistling on 2 songs. It was actually nice.
