So I've always thought Johnny Depp was pretty sexy in a hetero-sexual-man-crush sort of way. However, I just saw a preview for Charlie and the Chocolate factory and he creeped me out in a Robert-Smith-meets-Michael-Jackson-with-liver-disease sort of way. Has anyone else had this same reaction? What sort of Hollywood sense does de-sexifying Johnny make?

I did find Depp sexy as Captain Jack Sparrow, in a pirate who wears eyeliner sort of way. Not many men could put on that much eye make up and still look like a man. I think he is a great actor and can't wait to see him in Chocolate Factory even if he is a little creepy, I thought the guy in the original was more than a little creepy.

I think the whole original movie was quite creepy--not only Gene Wilder (right?) but also the Oompa-Loompas...and in general just the way the movie was colored. It reminded me a little of the Wizard of Oz (a movie that scared the crap out of me when I was five and that I have since refused to watch--even with The Dark Side of the Moon). There's good creepy and bad creepy...I hope Johnny makes the new one good creepy.

Ooh I agree! Wizard of Oz.... BAD creepy. But I was an easily creeped out little girl. Gene Wilder (I think you're right) had some crazed eyes in the first one, hopefully Jonny can keep his eyes under control.

Maybe this time since I am a little older I will be able to get through it without having to go sit on my dad's lap.

You know, I think it's his mouth. Not so much in that photo, but in the trailer I saw he has it all pursed up...
