I just saw my first trailer for this movie. I am *so* excited! I loved the series as a kid--it was the first show I recall making an effort to watch every week. I remember sitting through the Incredible Hulk, getting a glass bottle of Coke (it was the only day of the week we were allowed to drink pop), and running around the house during commercials like I was the General Lee... *sigh* Hopefully the movie won't completely suck...but then any movie with Jessica Simpson wearing Daisy Dukes by definition doesn't suck...

So after watching this trailer a gazillion times, I have a little problem with the movie: without their blue and yellow shirts, I can't tell which is Bo and which is Luke. Plus...they both have brown hair. I realize that the central character of the show/movie is the General Lee, but when we played "Dukes" as a kid we always had our parts assigned by either our hair color or shirt style...

From CNN:
ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- A former star of the "The Dukes of Hazzard" TV show is urging fans to skip the forthcoming movie version, calling it "a sleazy insult."
Ben Jones, a former Georgia congressman who played the wisecracking mechanic Cooter on the popular series from 1979 to 1985, said profanity and sexual content in the film make a mockery of the family-friendly show.
"Basically, they trashed our show," said Jones, who read a script of the Warner Brothers movie, which is scheduled to be released next month. "It's one thing to do whatever movie they want to do, but to take a classic family show and do that is like taking 'I Love Lucy' and making her a crackhead or something."

I swear, if I see ONE MORE MAGAZINE COVER featuring Jessica Simpson arching her back for additional boobage, I am going to get all pyro on that unfortunate grocery store's media counter.
Oh, and someone PLEASE tell me they're not making an I Love Lucy movie? I know it was just an example, but... pretty please?

This movie will be so bad that before it's release I will begin a personal phone campaign to destroy it in it's opening weekend.
And I'm STILL mad at Matthew Broderick for that Godzilla movie. Seriously, I will never regain those 2 hours and 20 minutes. Lost.

The funniest thing about the Cooter story is that he actually tried to get a part in the new movie. Then didn't. Then started trashing it. Of course, he claims he hadn't actually read the script and been thoroughly disgusted yet when he was trying to get in.
I probably won't be seeing this one, though... although Willie Nelson seems like a perfect Uncle Jesse, and good for them for denying Ben Jones.

since singer-actors is the latest thing, I think they should get Gwen Stefani to play Lucy. that would work, no?

I am kind of excited for this one... I know it's sacreligious compared to the original t.v. show (which I too remember watching all the time as a child), but I am a big Johnny Knoxville fan, him as an actor. He's actually a decent actor and he is really funny. Lookin' forward to Friday...

I have a feeling this will make us all nostalgic for the Flinstones movies ... where have you gone, John Goodman?

(CNN) -- "The Dukes of Hazzard" is a prime example of a sad Hollywood habit: taking a popular -- but rather dumb -- TV show and turning it into a totally stupid and meaningless film.
This flick is a car wreck with boobs.
Ahahahahhahaha!

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The good ol' boys of "The Dukes of Hazzard" crashed past another pair of joke-cracking buddies to the top of the weekend box office.
The adventure comedy, which stars Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott as the mischievous Duke cousins, rounded up $30.6 million in its first three days of release, according to studio estimates Sunday.

I went and saw this last night and thought it was very entertaining. Not being a previous fan of this show since I grew up in a family who wasn't allowed to watch t.v. I had no prior expectations so I couldn't really get let down. I am also easily entertained so it doesn't take much for me to be happy with a movie but it got some good laughs out of me and the rest of the theater.
I'd say it's a perfect summer movie.

no matter what i say, i will be hurting somebody's feelings.
so i feel words must fail me when it comes to ye ole' Daisy Dukes.
[can you tell with every sentence i write i'm biting my tongue? ouch. i gotta go before i injure myself. i must have wanted to say something, otherwise i wouldn't have posted, wot? just imagine as you read this short post all the things i might have said had i not thought better of it and erased it and rewrote it and erased it several more times...]

yee-haw, and what have you.

I ain't gonna lie - I enjoyed it. It wasn't anything special - just your typical summer-blockbuster-trite stuff. Big on cheap thrills and cheap laughs, fun to watch but won't stick with you (or, if it does stick with you, it probably offended you somehow). A lot of bad language (not by today's standards, but still), but no nudity... I mean, I've seen dozens and dozens of films that make this look tame, so there should be no complaint about it being trash... it's just your typical summer hit type of movie. I'm sure it'll fade when the next one comes out (just like it knocked off Wedding Crashers).
Won't ever touch the original. Woohoo!
