I'm cool with this but am sorry for all of y'all that liked the joint. Here, from Cincinnati Enquirer:
Kaldi's closes after 12 years
Deal pending for Over-the-Rhine coffeehouse
By Joe Wessels
Enquirer contributor
OVER-THE-RHINE - Kaldi's Coffeehouse on Main Street shut its doors Wednesday after 12 years in business.
Kaldi's owner Sonya McDonnell said she is in negotiations with a potential new owner of the long-time Main Street entertainment district anchor.
McDonnell said the decision to close was not entirely financial and was taking a toll on her. Cash receipts had been down recently compared to the decade after the restaurant's opening but have leveled out in recent months.
As a result, the restaurant was not in a "dire situation," she said.
"It's been somewhat difficult keeping the place afloat for some time now," she said.
"I just need to move on for now. I need to make a change, and that's what precipitated (the closing.)"
In January, McDonnell decided to end live music, something the coffeehouse had become known for.
She also cut back the coffeehouse's hours and halted liquor sales to save money on licenses, she said.
A sign on the shop's doors Wednesday afternoon said it would be closed just "today," but McDonnell doesn't plan to reopen while she still owns it.
"It's a little sad for me," McDonnell said. She had owned part of Kaldi's since its opening in 1993 but became the sole owner about two years ago. "I feel very close to my regular customers."
Over-the-Rhine neighborhood leaders lament the establishment's closing but are optimistic about the possibility of a new owner.
"It's exciting that there will be a new start to Kaldi's," said Stan Eichelbaum, head of the Over-the-Rhine Foundation. "There is much positive energy in Over-the-Rhine."
Eichelbaum and McDonnell said they have been frustrated with the city's lack of effort to retain and attract businesses to the neighborhood, which, they said, contributed to the coffee shop's closing.
"We need the right levels of public services, cleaning, safety and economic development," Eichelbaum said. "It is said with great frustration at this point."

Farewell, Kaldi's. Good luck to the owner.

Sorely mismanaged, but a great place for me to unwind with a joe and a smoke and paperwork before or after visits to the welfare office.
I just got here for chrissakes ... stop changing stuff!

Kaldi's closing? Meh.
Poor management, moderate food that took forever, drinks that were overpriced and under-heated... A perfect example of what is WRONG with Cincinnati restaurants. "
Quit being all alternative and get me my damned coffee, dammit!"
I repeat...
Meh.
I am much more interested in the
Maisonette's relocation.

wow. those are both horrible announcements for a city/downtown that is already struggling with image problems. it's a shame to see cinti's downtown lose two institutions, especially one of the most renowned restaurants in the country (world) moving to the 'burbs. ouch.

I'm not polite. I hate polite. To say they're dumb and blind means they have an affliction that is not necessarily their choice.
