Who is LaLa? And why would someone who's never made a post be using personal messenger?

not touching the second issue, but as far as the first one goes, i do know that there are a few friendly apples that will send personal messages to those that are new to the boards as a welcome. i don't know if this happens to be the case in this instance, but it could be a possible explanation.

I think we have mysterious apples all over the place...Gizmo was the number 2 post per day member, and only has a single post. As for the other issue...I have no idea what you are talking about

well this information caused me to see how many apples are not posting. there are 255 apples who have never posted once. I thought that was a bit crazy since you can be a guest and read stuff. why become an official apple if you aren't going to post? Are we really that scary?

Except for the Pleased Baden Powell issue. That irks me.

The same could be said for the old-list, if you're a non-posting lurker, why sign-up when you had access to the archives? Why not, I say.

If you never post and just lurk and aren't a member you can't "view new posts", if you like/use that feature. What if they know other members and are simply messaging cause it's convenient? That'd be the same as lurking listees emailing off-list (I emailed with a couple lurker listees). Maybe they registered and signed up for the email notification thing just so they're able to keep up with certain forums/threads without having to actually check in here... maybe they love bootlegs and hate the wait so they message the seed and say "trade ya."... maybe they just like being signed up to be signed up... maybe they have or need tickets to an upcoming show and signed up to respond to someone's request... it could be a lot of things. I will say that calling out a new member for personal messaging on a 0 post count after using the Spy Vs. Spy "view online list" feature just might assist in a decision to never post, even though that's a real welcoming thing to do 'n all.

To me, a 0 post count user (new member or not) using personal messenger doesn't kick my paranoia/suspicious gear into overdrive one bit.

Sure, they could be devious and sneaky and wanting to "stir the pot" on a multiple account too but if they're at 0 post count, that ain't much spoon use, know what I mean?

I wasn't trying to be mean or paranoid. I just thought it was weird to sign up and not post. I didn't realize there were limitations other than posting if you signed in as a guest. I guess I figured lurkers could lurk without needing to sign up. Sorry if I gave that impression. I would never want to be unwelcoming. I simply found the number interesting. It surprised me. Now that I am falling all over myself I should stop before I unintentionally type something else that will get me in trouble.

I have been known to tackle-greet new members with eye-catching names. If I see them online and I don't know them, I might sometimes send a PM of welcome. I don't remember sending one to Lala, but isn't is possible someone else did?

Geesh, poor Lala, being discussed like the return of PappyShout. I wouldn't blame him/her for being reluctant to post under that username after this, innocuous though it might seem.

I've recently added a feature to the site that automatically sends a PM to new users when they complete their registration. I'd be willing to bet that LaLa was simply reading that message.


I think the Gizmo thing was/is a bug in Statistics module... I think users with 1 or 2 posts mess up the stats. It's been reported to the author, though the bug has not been confirmed yet.
