What do you think? A horse's bum = cover art goodness?
DJDelicious
i'm assuming that had they seen it, they probably would've used the picture of michelle's bum, but i think the horse is a nice second choice.
michelle
Oh that Janelle... such a comedian. wink.gif

When they first announced they were going back to Drunkard's Prayer instead of BORN I was bummed. I love BORN as a potential OtR cd title. But, I've warmed up to DP and after reading some things K&L said about the title and why they chose that cover I do like it. Very, very much. Call me wacky but I see the word 'strength' when I look at it. Strength in many things.
b_lachey@hotmail.com
I still don't like it, Mich. I'm never a grumbler about this kind of stuff!
michelle
It's ok, Bruce. I'll still let you suck on my earlobe now and then.

I personally LOVE the cover. It's strong and sleek yet sophisticatedly retro. Not to mention, it has that 'horse-sexuality" that seems to be so popular in Europe right now. wink.gif

There's nothing quite like riding a horse...

Marq, I don't know you to have the sarcasm gene all that much. Can't tell what to make of your statement. Are you serious?

Not that I get dissapointed about things like this, but well....yeah it does nothing for me except make me wonder where my Lone Ranger action figure is....
margarita
And I thought with a title like "Drunkard's Prayer" it was screaming out to look like this:

It was a mix of both, bro. I have been in the sarcasm mood lately...

And as far as having the gene goes. I have it in spades--got it from both sides--and I don't mean recessive, either. I have to keep it in tight containment though since once it gets loose, nothing but fallout and crisis management ensues for weeks after. One time in the 80s I had to actually submit a formal apology to the entire state of Rhode Island. Some old timers there still refer to it as "little Three Mile Island."

OK look: It's not a horse's butt, it's a horse's flank.

(that helps a little, but it still ain't Patience)

But you do hafta admit, Keith, that's one fine lookin' horse!

No argument there. Perhaps a future resident of that 5-acre farm outside of Cincinnati?

Or maybe just the official nag of Gandalf the White...
DustyVolume
Okay, wait. I'm just recovering from the visual I had of Karin on horseback.

(quickly regains composure as if nothing untoward crossed my mind)

Um yeah, Gandalf... The gray--er white... yeah.

Karin on horseback.........................................
seems like a good time to call it a night and do a little dreaming.

I just don't think the cover matches the title. I personally like Drunkard's Prayer better than Born as a title...but I think this album cover was meant for Born.
patrik
Well, let's face, it, drunkardness (?) is not pretty. Might as well illustrate it with a horses back.

Patrik

I love this cover.
Perhaps the back cover will be the horse's mouth.

Well...since you guys brought it up, I can't get the visual of Karin as Lady Godiva with her long blonde tresses flowing.
And before anyone gets all twisted...I mean no disrespect at all. In fact, the image I see is very beautiful and sensual.
OK...so it's an unikely photo for a back cover. But maybe just bare legs hugging the bare horse. Not necessarily Karin's.

Although I love Drunkard's Prayer...
(it is really one of my absolute favorite OTR songs)
I think Born was a wonderful name for the album and the beautiful bare horse photo fit that title better.

Black and white photography rules.

I'd do it.

i'm not a huge fan of the cover.

but it's what's inside that i'm really looking forward to. smile.gif
Beloved
at least they kept with the same greeny theme like Ohio.

I quite like the horse and it's symbolism. Redemption is something we all look for and need a little of.
WalrusOct9
I've already had a couple of comments from people who've seen my CD lying around and the general consensus is..."huh?" We're not really sure what a horse has to do with being drunk or praying (or doing both concurrently). Obviously it's the music on the inside that matters most, but I'll admit I'm still scratching my head on this one...

cough, cough... from before... i still think they should'a gone this route...

I like the cover better in reality than I did from pre-release pictures.
and Steve, I don't want to state the obvious here, if you've already read that interview/thread, but if not, "Drunkard's Prayer" sounds like the name of a race-horse.

Actually I haven't read the interview yet...

But would something like that be figured out by the average listener who doesn't scour the internet for OTR articles? Probably not...

hmm. I didn't know that OtR had average listeners.

I thought we are all exceptional.
WalrusOct9
Ya know, there are people who listen to OTR who don't travel huge distances for shows or make hundreds of posts on message boards. Crazy, I know, but it's true. wink.gif

You got a citation for that, dude? My numbers say we're all exceptional and completely effin' nuts, posting or travelling or not. Every. Single. Last. Apple. Heh.
Brookd
hell, I'm still trying to figure out what a birthday cake has to do with letting it bleed...

perhaps some things aren't meant to be figured out by Joe Average Listener.
WalrusOct9
Okay, good point.

It surprises me how many people have actually heard of OTR...I had an OTR shirt on at one of the U2 shows last week and like 4 different people in the GA line that day said something to me about it. It was pretty cool. smile.gif

Warning: This is a Hijack!

Speaking of t-shirts, anyone know where can I find an OtR t-shirt? Paste has been sold out forever, don't even show the shirts on their merch site anymore. I found none on eBay. Anyone ever make their own on CafePress or something like that?

I would still like to know what the heck happened to that horse's head. Linford got an offer he couldn't refuse.

I would just like to say that I neither like nor dislike the cover art for DP...and that wasn't even a choice on the poll.

Here's what I've heard about the art:

--a white horse (or maybe just the color white?) is symbolic of redemption

--they thought it sounded like the name of a racehorse, especially one that was an underdog/long shot to win

I think they said this between songs at the 20th Century show?

after reading the explanation, i really like the cover art now.

wow.
jnhashmi
It's a great cover and this is why: As others have noted, it is NOT an image of a horse's bum or even of it's back, but almost the entire horse - minus the head. It's really interesting to me that because the face of the horse is cropped out, that people see only the butt. That says a lot about what makes something what it is. It challenges our perceptions in a simple way. That's why it's great.
«°¤°»
I agree...
