Hi everyone! I am excited to announce that I begin Body for Life tomorrow and it will last three months. I've done it before - like two years ago or so and it definitely works very well. It's not one of those "fad" diets, but rather a nutrition / work out plan that you really can stick to.
I am sharing this news because I am using several venues to motivate myself. This is a part of a challenge / competition and I intend to win. My company just bought EAS (the company who owns Body for Life) and I could win lots of good stuff. If I wasn't an employee, I could win $1,000,000. Bummer on that part, but it's still a good thing because I could win some free products. That's enough motivation, right?
Anyhow, if anyone is interested in learning about Body for Life, let me know. It's really not that hard. I'd love to have an Orchard buddy to talk to about this.

you go!!!!
i had a personal trainer a few years ago. he was really hot. behind his back, i called him "hottie hotterman," and i called my workouts "dates."
okay, back to the topic....he basically had me on the body for life program. i loved it....just loved it. i still do a lot of things from the program, interval training, lifting...frequent, small portioned meals.
keep us updated.

hey, great news!
i almost started Body for Life last summer. ::wonders what happened to that plan::
Anyhoo, when my brothah-man set out to loose weight a while back... he started out with the book, and eventually lost 65 lbs. He always gives credit where it is due when folks ask how he began his little hike to living a healthy life-style.
Gooo CinciGirl!!

I
lived body for life, for 5 weeks and actually gained weight, but that doesn't mean it won't work for your--just not for me. So you GO!
And EAS actaully does have the best supplements and shakes out there--bar none. When I start lifting again I'm gonna use 'em.
And I really got to love Muscle Media, the offical mag of EAS and Bill Phillips. I can totally support the guy and what he's doing. I just wish it had worked for me.
So, I can't wait to hear your results. AWESOME!!!!

Hi everyone - Why is it that when you decide to stick with a health plan (like Body for Life in my case) that other people around you try to put undue pressure on you to eat things that clearly wouldn't be on any type of health plan? I think I've come to the conclusion that people don't like to respect boundaries.
It is the official end to week one because tomorrow is my "free day" to eat whatever I want! Yippie! Chocolate and Panera Bread bagels and specialty cream cheese - HERE I COME! I love having a free day to catch up on those cravings. I did BFL four years ago and did pretty well, but didn't really work all that hard to reach a goal. But, I am on a real mission this time; to win!
I've lost 5 lbs. this week. Body fat is 26.5% - hoping to achieve 21% by the end of this thing.

DustyVolume - Did you gain weight because you gained "muscle" weight or was it "fat" weight? I know muscle weighs more than fat, so I am just curious what your situation was.
And EAS actaully does have the best supplements and shakes out there--bar none. When I start lifting again I'm gonna use 'em.
Glad you like the EAS brand!! Did you know Bill Phillips sold off BFL a few years back? So, he no longer owns the rights to BFL. I thought it was interesting to learn that.
Also, BFL will be coming out with a brand new BFL Book for Women!! I am excited about that. I think it's targeted to launch in April??

No muscle. I didn't actually do any lifting--just cardio--and I gave myself shin splints for the first time in my life because I didn't really understand the method he was describing for that 95% zone.
But I'm not bitter. I know it works for lots of others, and that's what matters.
rock on!

Best of luck to you!! I found the program very effective. I lost 46 pounds on it and I certainly wasn't perfect about following it either. It helps to have a partner to do it with you. I loved my FREE days!! I did find though that some weeks I didn't even use my free day, I was in that perfect place for months. My desire for fattening foods disappeared! I still follow the routine a bit for my workouts. (when I work out- which is rarely lately) A trainer once told me that 80% of weight loss comes from what you eat, and that's the part I need to get back to. Weight watchers has also worked well for me. However, like everything else it is a discipline.
I have been up and down. I would rather read or listen to music or write...however, when I am at my peak fitness I have MORE time for all of the other things I love...funny how that works.

Update for the week - still doing well. Although, today was a struggle because my company paid for my lunch today, which was obviously at a restaurant. It's much harder to stick to the plan when you eat out. I know you can order healthier selections, but still you do not necessarily know what they cook their food in i.e. what kind of oil, quantity of oil, butter included, etc. I've become quite aware of this fact and would much rather eat in...

Hey,
I'll mail my old Body For Life book free to the first person who asks for it. There's no fancy cover with the pictures on it anymore, and it's slightly dog-eared, but it's free!
Any takers?

I think it's great what you're doing.

The name implies a system that live with forever, or at least a method to make long term changes. Is that what it feels like?

Yeah, I think so. I've done BFL before and the foundation of 6 small meals a day with a carb/protein combination has always stuck with me. It definitely increases your metabolism and therefore, you get healthier. The first time I did BFL 100% to the plan was 4 1/2 years ago and the foundations stuck with me that long. I just kicked it up a notch this time by being more consistently devoted to the workouts and being consistently devoted to not straying from the nutrition part. The only part I struggle with is if I get a a craving for something "bad" during the week. I just eat whatever it is for that moment (in moderation, which is key) and then make up for it. On the BFL plan you have a "free day", which is one day a week that is designated for eating whatever you desire. But, what I do instead is I eat when I get a craving for something and I don't take an entire free day. I take a few small free moments throughout the week. It works for me.
But, back to your main question: I like the plan because it's not a fad. It's just a matter of choosing to eat healthier more wholesome foods overall.
