Anyone watch the first two hours last night?
Pretty good stuff.
That lady who hocked her wedding rings to come to the audition was a pretty good story. I was so glad that she could sing after that, cuz it would have just been incredibly sad otherwise.
The music teacher who sang the Stevie Wonder song--Great!
The guy who did a break dance before singing the song was pretty cool too!
I really thought the 18 y/o in the red skirt who took her hair down and came back in to cuss everyone out after she was cut--I thought she would have made it...
Anyone else have thoughts?

I watched the first hour and then switched over to the Amazing Race...and as it turned out I didnt get to watch that either....
I love watching the initial auditions, but after that I lose interest real fast in American Idol.
I often wonder about some of these people who will drop everything important in their life to try for a 1 and a million chance. Selling wedding rings, single moms, and so on....but it's just wondering, I don't know what their lives are like besides the 5 minutes I see them on TV.

A co-worker and I were just discussing this. I think it may be the hallmark of a non-fulfilling life. It makes people want to risk everything for that one minute chance of an unearned change in their life.

i watched last night and was thoroughly entertained. but i felt kinda bad for a few of them.....who has been telling them they can sing?? i think the last girl was certifiably crazy.
i don't think that these people are leading un-fulfilling lives necessarily. i would guess that for a lot of them they would feel un-fulfilled if they didn't take a big risk like this.

That's a great point, Zoey! There have to be a certain amount of risk takers in the bunch. It's just crazy the way some people sing!

HA! ya, i would like to see everyone come up actually "EARNING" and "PAYING THEIR DUES" perfect examples are Brittany Spears and Ashley Simpson.
School of hard knocks baby.
So much in many folk's life is "being in the right place at the right time" I guess that's part of "earning" right? Just hanging around long enough... ....beating on the door long enough....

See, I feel the same way. People wanting the media attention, and their 15 minutes, will do whatever it takes...acting a fool or not. There were some talented people on last night too, and you know they saved a few to hit us with later who were pretty good.

Amanda and I were talking about seeing Karin on the show to do an OtR song and see what the reactions would be...you know, an actual singer who is alos a songwriter...whoda thunk it?

I believe they write a song at some point in the show and perform it.

My friend Amy and I watched this last night. I think my favorite part was when the psychic gal who predicted that she would be going to Hollywood sang terribly, and Kenny Loggins said, "You're one of the few people I know who can manage to destroy two careers at the same time."

This is my new favorite show. I watch and watch and watch. I love it. The first girl last night who was 16 was awesome, and the lady who was 27 and "conscience" of her weight was awesome too. They will both go far. The Cyndi Lauper girl, will be cut though, very quickly... I hope.
I'm dissappointed that we're not seeing some of the other contestants who get cameos in between the auditions.

I only watched about 5 minutes of Idol, but I saw this lady. I couldn't believe she was only 22! She's nearly four years younger than me! She looked like she could have been my mom. It's always so funny to see how people can think they are actually good when they're AWFUL. I don't understand it. I liked her whole, "Oh, she thought she was going to the tenth one in, but she was sitting in chair number ten, that's what she saw." Yeah, whatever.

i am also amused by Randy, and how he believes that there are percentages over 100. he's always like, "she's through 5,000% as far as i'm concerned."
Delicious out

I actually thought the showgirl was good and will probably go a ways for a couple of reasons.
And I was disappointed that the guy who sang the Lion King song and broke into cartoon voices was cut. I thought he was good.
Also the waitress and Micheala (the first girl who was 16).

So is anyone else watching this time around? This is the first time I've gotten into it so far. My favorites at this moment are the grey-haired guy (Taylor?), the bald rock 'n roll guy, Kellie Pickler, and Katherine McPhee (though no one else seems to like her). I really don't like the young kids--especially the basketball playing girl with the weird name, the arrogant kid who looks like Lionel Ritchie, and the boy who looks like he's 12. Oh yeah, I also like the smoky-sounding girl who did Heart this weeks...she's uber sexy...

Holy crap Chris' arrangement of "I Walk the Line" was incredible last night! Actually, most of them sounded pretty good last night--even little Kevin did a song that didn't make me completely cringe. Anyway, getting back to Chris, it's too bad he has to wait until after the show to put out his cd--I think his cover will be a great single, but it would have been nice to catch on to the "Walk the Line" movie Oscar buzz...

Chris is getting by on his looks and his good press for taking care of his wife's kids that he married into. He may be a good guy after all, but he doesn't have the originality that I would vote for.
I like Taylor the best.

I cannot believe Mandisa got the boot.
And how is it that Bucky is still there? And Ace? He stinks. I think he is still there because he is cute. That is all he has. He has that same 'doe in the headlights' stare wth every song.
My favorite is Chris and Catherine.
I think Catherine will win it but I know Chris will record. Great pipes. She makes singing look so easy.
I like Elliot's voice but I think he is just immature.
They all look terrified.

Chris - We will Rock You
Katharine - Killer Queen
Kellie - Crazy little thing called love
Ace - Somebody to Love
Bucky - Another one Bites the Dust
Elliott - We are the Champions
Paris - You're My Best Friend
Taylor - Fat Bottomed Girls
Nobody will sing Bohemian Rhapsody.

Taylor's career wil be just as great as Bo Bice's career.
Of the popular Joe Cocker songs, You're So Beautiful, is a real bore. The guy is just a bit on the creepy side to become major pop star.
He really needed to cover, You can leave your Hat on or With a little help from my Friends....I think the Wonder Years song would be his grandslam.
