It appears I'm the only one still providing updates.  Then again, maybe I'm the only one who hasn't already reached his goal.

Anyway, I'm at 44.8 pounds lost so far.

holy cow. i just now saw this. way to go! that's awesome.
FallingLeaf
You know, the real South Beach diet, which requires a flight to South Beach, some ecstacy and about 6 days worth of partying without eating or sleeping, is a PROVEN weight loss method.

Mr. SoCal
Okay, so it's update time again, I guess.

50.2 and counting.

Why didn't I start doing this earlier??
Mr. SoCal
C'mon folks, let's hear some updates!

I'm still plugging away and am down 60.4 so far. I've still got a ways to go, but I'm getting there.
DustyVolume
I'm backsliding at the moment. But man, you have really kicked arse. That's something to be very proud of. And BTW, thanks for getting Jessyka to finally post something on here.

Thanks, and yeah, I suppose I am kinda proud of the headway I've made. In truth though, all it really indicates that I had (and still have) much more to lose than most.

I told her a long time ago that she'd enjoy it if she'd only give it a try. Guess she finally decided to believe me.

Wow, I didn't realize it'd been so very long since anyone had contributed anything to this thread. My weight loss progress has slowed considerably, but is ongoing nonetheless. As of my meeting two nights ago, I'm now down 70.6 pounds since January.

I'm still quite a ways off from the goal weight (based on body-mass index) set by WW, but I was never intending to lose that much. The goal I set for myself was a bit above that and I'm still really not all that close to it, but I'm now reconsidering somewhat whether I even want to lose that much. I do know that I still need to lose a bit more, but how much more is the question.
DustyVolume
I feel much like a hippocrite for starting this thread and then abandoning the diet and everything, but when I hear what success you've had, Steve, it's encouraging.

Keep on losing and getting healthier. I may join you soon. biggrin.gif

Steve, That's astonishing progress. You must be very pleased!!

I'm certainly not unhappy about having lost what I have, that's for sure. Buying clothes is a frustration though. It was kinda fun when I was first able to go out and get something new and smaller because my other stuff was now too big, but even the things that I'd purchased (relatively) recently due to my weight loss are getting too big, so I need to buy yet more clothing. That part of it's kind of annoying, but I am happy otherwise. smile.gif

And it's kinda weird to realize I'm weighing less now than I did my senior year of high school.
pico de gallo
Steve, that is awesome! Congratulations!

I have to say that I am surprised WW would use something archaic as the BMI (body mass index) to identify your target weight. There is a lot of research out there showing why BMI is a terrible measuring system. One size does not fit all, so to speak. wink.gif

Wow Steve, I can't even imagine you 70.6 pounds lighter. Way to go!

Okay. I'm very displeased with myself. I started this thread and then gave up. Starting today, here is my new plan.

This week, we're getting rid of all the unhealthy food in the house. We're either eating or throwing out all the beer, cookies, muffins, chips, cokes whatever. Come this time next week it will not be here.

Starting next week, I am back on the southbeach diet (wife too). And this time, we're starting with exercise. From day one, we're walking four times per week (20 minutes) then after two weeks of that, 30 minutes a day four days a week for two weeks, then 45 minutes a day four times a week, until we can walk 45 minutes a day for a minimum of 5 days a week.

That should put us about five weeks out at which point, I hope to have lost a minimum of 18 lbs.

From there I'm re-evaluating my goals to determine what to do next.

So onto step one. Eliminating all the junk from the house! This part should be fun... I'll report back next week.

Okay, shameless self plug, but hey, I started this thread, smile.gif

So far, I've been on the southbeach diet for 13 days (only half-assed on thanksgiving), managed to walk ONE time during that, and so far I'm down 13.5 pounds.

Yay, go me!

Good job! And welcome back to dietland...

I find out tonight just how much damage I did to myself over Thanksgiving, yeehaw... unsure.gif
DustyVolume
Wow. I am a slacker. But this thread if nothing else, paints an honest picture.

This is my 4th time starting the south beach diet. I truly do believe in it, and the last time I started it, two Octobers ago, I lost 30 lbs and kept it off for 11 months! Thanks to foolishness and Kroger (10 two liter sodas for $10 is truly evil,) I've put back on 23 of the 30 lbs that I lost in 2005/2006.

But I'm back and now I know that no matter how much will power I have, if 10 two liters are sitting in my house, they WILL get drank all within one week--(hangs head in shame)... But I digress.

It's encouraging that I've had increasing success with my lifestyle change, so I'm nothing but hopeful that this time will be the best yet.

BTW, don't feel bad if you read this and think I'm an idiot for starting the same diet four times in three years. I'm keeping track of things here mostly for historic purposes since I don't have this information written down elsewhere. The whole world just gets to read it if they so choose. smile.gif

Anyway, this is my third day on the diet, and I've lost four pounds! Go me. It's been my hardest time with it so far. I've been dizzy and nauseous for a couple of days, but I'm not sure what it's from. Possibly from the drastic change from the tons of sugars I had been eating for the past few weeks compared to eating almost zero now...

Thanks for reading. I'll try to post my story here if anyone feels like coming back...
Josh
I recently started the "eat-everything-in-moderation" diet. I'm using CalorieKing's software to give me a carb/fat/calorie/etc goal and basically using it to record what I eat and doing my best to stay under the goal smile.gif Been on it for about three days and already have three pounds down so far. smile.gif I'm 211 now, and when I first-weighed myself (a couple days into it, when we bought a digital scale) was about about 214. My goal is 145, but that probably won't happen. I'm aiming for it though. (reference: 15 years old and 5' 6" tall)

As far as south beach diet goes... I read the book, and it seemed nice and all but I really couldn't change my diet that much to follow the meal plans and all that. How I have it now works a lot better for me. That being said, I love the south beach diet lunch wraps, cereals and protien bars.

I'll post my daily calorieking stats so you guys can see that progress I've made in changing how much I eat smile.gif

My experience with Weight Watchers back in 2005 was great. I did very well with it. Unfortunately, I let myself lapse and 2006 proved to be an utter disaster. Next week rejoining WW to try and do it right this time.
DustyVolume
LOL, Steve, we seem to be kindred spirits!

Good luck Bro. smile.gif

Okay, week one is down, and I've lost 9 pounds! Lets hope week two is as kind--(although, it shouldn't be beacause you typically only lose 12-15 pounds in phase one.

exercised twice in week one...
DustyVolume
Three days to go (afer today) and I've lost 10.5 lbs!

Here's a recipe I'm cooking tonight from this:

Black and White Bean Soup with Roasted Pepper Cream

Serves: 4
recipe ingredients
1 1/2 cups dried black beans
1 1/2 cups dried Great Northern beans
1 1/2 cups chopped onions
2 small poblano chiles, seeded, finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped celery
4 cloves garlic, sliced
2 tsp chopped fresh or 1 tsp dried thyme leaves
8 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 tsp each chili powder and ground cumin
1 tbsp chopped fresh or 1 1/2 tsp dried sage

Roasted-Pepper Cream
1 jar (7 oz) roasted red peppers, drained
2 Tbsp reduced-fat sour cream
1 tsp cider vinegar
1/4 tsp each salt and ground black pepper

recipe directions
The day before serving: In 2 separate large bowls, combine dried beans and enough cold water to cover. Let stand overnight.

The next day: Drain beans. In 4-qt stockpot, saute vegetables, garlic and thyme; cook 8 minutes or until vegetables are crisp-tender. Transfer half of vegetables to a second stockpot. To one pot, add black beans, 4 cups broth, the chili powder and cumin. To the other pot, add white beans, remaining broth and the sage. Heat both soups to boiling; cover. Over low heat, simmer black-bean soup 1 1/4 hours; simmer white-bean soup 1 hour or until beans are tender.

Make Roasted-Pepper Cream: In food processor, combine ingredients and puree.

To serve: Ladle 1 cup black-bean soup into each of 4 bowls. Tilt each bowl; ladle 1 cup white-bean soup to one side of each bowl. Drizzle with roasted-pepper cream. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
Mr. SoCal
Okay... So after 1 week on this, my second venture with Weight Watchers, I've dropped 6.6 pounds. So far, so good. Too bad I can't realistically (or safely) maintain that kind of pace.
DustyVolume
Well, I lost 12.5 lbs a few days ago, but haven't weighed in a few days. I'm thinking I may need to start exercising... ohmy.gif)
Mr. SoCal
I guess it's time to revive this thread. As mentioned in previous posts I did very well in 2005, very poorly in 2006 and started 2007 well, but didn't stick with it more than about 2 weeks or so. In case you didn't know, it's now 2008, so here I go again doing the Weight Watchers thing and trying to make it stick this time. So far I'm down 19.0 with a hell of a long way to go.

19 lbs is a LOT! (I'm short smile.gif )

While I'm not dieting at the moment (pregnant land), I have a cookbook or two that seem helpful. One is made by South Beach Diet. It's their "Quick and Easy" Cookbook. Recipes are supposed to take about 30 minutes. I've tried and enjoyed several of them. Have you tried that book? New recipes inspire me when I'm trying to eat better.

This summer, I did power yoga for an extra 1-2 hours each day (in addition to my Hapkido workouts in the evening), and it made a good little difference. I also do a small version of a detox. Some warm lemon water in the mornings, cranberry water all day off and on, cran-water + flax seed (ground) in the morning and evening. I lost a few pounds and just felt cleaner/better.
DustyVolume
Im on the eat what I want and work out at the gym 4-5x a week plan. So far, no change. sad.gif

I have been doing the Sonoma Diet - it works but right now I feel like I am slipping so far I have lost 23 pounds since September and I want to lose another 15-20. I am also exercising a lot but not as much as I do in the summer. Is this a support area?

IMO, yeah, this thread is an area for support (at least it has that potential), as well as for some small amount of accountability.

Congrats on losing the 23 that you've dropped so far. I'm sure you can lose the rest of what you're wanting to lose, but as I know all too well, sticking with a diet plan can be tough. I really don't know anything about the Sonoma diet - what does it amount to?

I had my weekly WW meeting last night and have dropped another 4 pounds, so I'm now down an even 23 pounds after a mere 5 weeks. Yeah, I know that's a very fast pace - too fast really, but if my past experience is any indication, I'll start slowing down before too much longer.
