I just open each thread I want to read in it's own tab. That way, when I am done, I just close the tab.

If I post, I'll hit the 'view new posts' but if I just read I hit the back button.

It depends.
If I am not many pages into a thread, and I haven't been in the orchard for a long period of time, I will go back three pages.
If I am several pages in, or I have been hanging around quite a while, I will either click the link or my bookmark link.
