whilst trying to find a bottle of about any vintage Ca'de'Rocchi Cab Sav from Italy, I stumbled onto Wine Commune. I haven't bid on anything yet, but this is a cool site... I still haven't found any Ca'de'Rocchi (even at JJim's), but at least I can search in the future.

It's like freakin' eBay for wines... http://www.winecommune.com/

Too bad a ton of states don't allow direct sales. The 3-tier system is alive and well, and you can get seriously fined if you get caught by-passing the distributor.

However...

I work for the largest wine retailer in the nation, and I could almost certainly special-order the bottle you want Dan. Hell, if I can get '99 Silver Oak, I think I can manage this. I'll post again when I find out from my work computer.

Since this thread originally appeared, I've discovered www.zachys.com. They pretty much ignore the law, so no matter where you live, they'll ship to you.

Also, a little winery out in CA called Kunde Estate sells to a lot of states direct (including SC, which makes no sense to me, but oh well).

The 3-tier system is a pretty obvious monopoly, so I have no ethical problems by-passing it.

Oh, and as for that Ca' de Rocchi, none of my distributors had any luck, so sorry. We do carry Ca' de Rocchi products, but not the Cab you wanted, Dan. Cab isn't that widely planted in Italy (relatively speaking), so this might be a small case drop or something. I don't know.

ooo, it might not have been a Cab.... what Ca' de Rocchi products do you have? And can you or your distributors ship to Ohio? Or can I give their info to my local wine guy? biggrin.gif

So I'm posting in this topic because I didn't see any other wine topics... I was in surgery for 9 hours with a gyn/onc this week and he showed his appreciation by giving me a bottle of 2003 Marquis/Philips Shiraz. Oh. My. God. I'm a not a big wine connoisseur, but I've had somewhat of a variety. This is far and away the best I've ever had. Is it bad that I'm buzzing on a Saturday afternoon?!
