OK...so almost everyone who knows me, knows
I DO NOT COOK.
But, A few days ago, I bought a really ingenious thing.
An automatic bread maker.
Oh...My....God....!
Just dump in the stuff and turn the thing on.
Forget about it.
After a few hours the house smells like warm bread and your mouth starts to water.
Three hours from start to finish and you've got hot homemade bread...just pop it out and slice....add fresh butter or jam.
NO WORK, NO CLEAN-UP.
I can get used to this kind of cooking!
Am I the last one to learn about these things?

i don't remember who makes it (if i do, i'll let you know), but there's a really good hawaiian sweet bread mix...that's mmmm...yum.
enjoy your bread!

Trudy, I encountered one of these for the first time over Thanksgiving. I'd heard about them, but never seen one up close and personal.
My cousin Dee used it to make pumpkin cranberry bread. Absolutely melted in my mouth. And the entire house smelled amazing.
Congratulations on your purchase.

Oh man... Hawaiian Bread is one of my favorite breads... It's practically the 'house bread' around my place.

I prefer an old-fangled iron skillet for cornbread. Better crust that way!

Trudes -
Sadly, I admit you're NOT the last to find out about breadmakers. I've spent the last 4 weekends attempting various ways to make bread. I didn't used to cook at all, but over the past few years I've gotten better and better at creating things I want(and can!) eat. I figured there's not much to bread, so I should be able to handle that. I bake other things.
Um, yeah, well, I've had several very lovely looking and smelling paper weights. They were only partially edible. I've thrown in the towel.....for now anyway.....on bread. Maybe one day I'll get a breadmaker!

And for those of us who don't have breadmakers, beer bread is a beautiful thing:
3 cups self-rising flour
1 12 oz. bottle of light beer (room temperature)
1/4 c. suger (can use less or more as desired)
Just mix it up and pop it in the oven at 350 degrees for 50 min. or so. You get lovely, yeasty, homemade bread with no rising time. It literally takes two minutes to make.
