Full Version: Some Options for LIST/FORUM Cross-Dressers
OverTheRhine.COM -- Orchard > OverTheRhine.COM > Forum Stuff
Trudes
I'd like to offer some options for those of us listees that want to keep up with news from Drew's forum but only have email access at work or cannot break office rules by visiting websites on company computers. (Please forgive the remedial lesson format...some of us are more computer savvy than others...I appreciate easy lessons myself smile.gif).
Drew, please correct me if I am in error.

On the forum, make sure you are logged in.
Go to My Controls.
In the Menu column (far left) under options, click E-Mail settings.
Under Board Preferences check 'Include a copy of the post....'.
There are other options there you may choose to check or uncheck as well.
Click Amend my email settings.

Go to the main forum page.
Choose a forum that interests you and click to enter it.
On the list of topics, choose a topic that interests you and those whose threads you would like to follow. Click on it.
Click on Track this topic (found above first post or in the Options menu following the last post).
Repeat for each topic that interests you.

You can log off the forum and still receive emails about posts while you are logged off.

If you are the only one using the computer, you can choose to remain logged in... eliminating the need to login again for each visit.

I totally understand the need and the preference for folks to prefer the list, but if there are people who want the best of both worlds, this might come in handy.

Just tryin to Halp.

Looks GREAT, Trudes. I think that should work for folks. Thanks for pointing it out.

Okay, so right now I'm getting an email for each post that happens on a thread that I am watching, but I'd rather just get one between the times that I am logged in.

I feel like there was a setting for that.....but I can't find it after much looking.

Any help?>
Trudes
Lara,
I assume you have gone to 'My Controls'
Do you have topics or forums listed as subscriptions?
If you don't want to be subscribed you can check those topics or forums, put a checkmark in each box...then choose unsubscribe in the dropdown menu.
Or
In Email Settings:
Uncheck email notification or choose 'No Email Notification'

I hope this helps a little.

I want to get the emails....

I just thought that you would get one email if the thread was updated and then you wouldnt' get another until after you visited the thread. I thought that's how it used to work.

but I woke up to 7 emails from the pet peeves thread.... which was weird...

Hmmmmm
Lara it seems you are right about that.
Under help topics...email notification, there is this paragraph.

Please note that to avoid multiple emails being sent to your email address, you will only get one e-mail for each topic you are subscribed to until the next time you visit the board.

I guess the buck will stop at Drew's desk. If he doesn't notice your post, maybe you could email him.

It's not called the Pet Peeves thread for nothing.

Log in. Go to My Controls->Email Settings. Under "Board Preferences", the drop-down list in the very last item (Enable 'Email Notification' by default?) is what you're looking for. Enabling (checking) this option will automatically subscribe you to any topic you start or reply to. The items in the drop-down list determine how/when you are notified.

* No Email Notification -- This option will not send out any email notification but will retain the topic or forum in your subscriptions panel.
* Immediate Email Notification -- This option will send out a notification immediately after a new topic or reply has been made regardless of your activity.
* Delayed Emailed Notification -- This option will send out a notification if a new topic or reply has been made and you're not active on the board.
* Daily Email Digest -- This option will send out a daily digest showing all new replies or topics for that day
* Weekly Email Digest -- This option will send out a weekly digest showing all new replies or topics for that week

I believe that what you want it set to is "Delayed Email Notification", though the forum errs on the side of TOO MUCH notification rather than TOO little.

If you make any changes, be sure to click "Amend my email settings" to save your changes.
