It's a big school! I travel to strange places a lot for work, and I was at Caterpillar once in Peoria and saw the Bradley sign off the highway. I had to stop. My pal Brad (who a few of these goofballs met on Friday's CST show) always would get psyched when Bradley was announced for NCAA basketball seeds.
So I stopped and visited the school and got him a baseball Braves shirt, and me that one.

I flew up from TEXAS for the show... Just having some fun here, folks... Don't take it personal. I'm not trying to incite some kind of political riot... it's just that Karin insulted my state and I gotta represent!!!

as i said in the other thread you felt compelled to post this picture in...i really [strongly] feel that it is wrong to associate them as being for, or "pro" bush/cheney in anyway, when they clearly have stated otherwise. imho, the image w/the "bush/cheney" button on karin & the "bush/cheney" logo superimposed on their pic is just wrong. very wrong. and not funny.
also, there are political threads to talk politics if that is your desire, could we keep it out of the show related threads please?
btw, it's
STILL not funny.

WOW, yeah I see the connection. Because obviously someone defacing my car would be the same as me exercising free speech in an Internet forum...
It's really sad you folks are so uptight and don't have a sense of humor about this. It's not like I started this out of the blue. If an artist is going to make pointed, partisan political comments - nay, attacks ("Texas is a scary place") - during a show, that artist (if they have any intelligence) is sure to know there is going to be backlash. And I know K&L are intelligent people.
All the same... to climb above all the foolishness, I'll be big enough to apologize AGAIN for any hurt feelings. I consider them your issue and not mine, but nonetheless, it wasn't my intent to bother anyone. At least, not to a greater degree than I was bothered by paying money to fly a thousand miles from home to listen to an artist make fun of my state and my political views.
Again... when K&L keep politics out of their
shows, I'll stop responding about politics in the
show-related forums.

the irony (yes, i do know what it means) of your getting bent out for shape about Karin's offhand, smartass (my word, not hers) and humorous to some of us, remark about texas, then critizing us for "not having a sense of humor", for being "foolish"? etc. pretty funny, much funnier that that offensive pic of yours.
ahh, the irony and hypocracy...
btw, i think she was clearly stating
her opinion, not anyone else's. she was far more expressing
her thoughts,
her beliefs rather than attacking or "making fun" of anyone's politics.

Look, I'm not bent out of shape. I took Karin's comments for what they were: offhand and smartass. To tell the truth, I laughed out loud when she made the Texas comment. It was funny! I got it. (BTW I lived in the Dayton area for 5 years before recently moving to TX. I really don't have all that much "Texan pride".)
I'm just responding to her humor with the same kind of humor. The little picture is "offhand" and "smartass". If I'm not as good at it as she is, well... that's why she's on stage and I'm in the crowd.
What I don't like is the double-standard being presented here. The artists can charge people money for a live music performance where they can express their views tongue-in-cheek... yet I'm not supposed to express mine here with a similar kind of wit? Help me out, is that irony or hypocrisy?

It's neither. Presentation matters. That doesn't just refer to the thing itself, but the "where" as well. I noted in another thread here in the Show Related forum that Karin got political and then I noted that I did want to talk about it and I would take it to the political forum when I had time to do so. Why? Because I respect that
this forum is worth preserving. To assist in that, I choose not to be provocative in any way and try to carefully consider the feelings of everyone when I post stuff here. If it seems it might be inflammatory, I'll reconsider posting it at all or will take it to an appropriate forum.
You seem like a nice preson and I'm sorry you were bothered (heh) by Karin's words. It seems to me like the political comments were quite minor compared to all the kick-ass beauty of the shows this weekend, and I wonder if this particular discussion is distracting everyone from seeing that.
My five cents, USD, adjusted for inflation,

Oh, and I predict a 65% chance that you'll use my presentation matters comments to say something along the lines of, "Right. She shouldn't have said it at the shows." Maybe so, but the way I see it, she made her comments in a matter of minutes and it was over. This, however, is dominating the conversation here.

"Dominating the conversation?" Suggesting the political threads... My gosh. Do you all not see you're the ones perpetuating this with each and every reply? *lol*
I don't have a problem with it.
Look, I really don't want hard feelings and some of you have made some good points. My cheesy picture was pretty inflammatory, but that's my personality. I was hoping we could all chuckle a bit and move on. Guess I was wrong. I've already apologized twice and that's all you're getting out of me.
Since the picture was offensive to some, I pulled it off the board and replaced it with a hyperlink.

Point taken. You've got something there.
However, there is something to be said for the fact that K&L are "celebrities" of sorts. They're the ones up on the stage. They used that stage and their hold over an audience to espouse a certain viewpoint. When public figures do that (be it in music, film, politics, wherever...) they do so knowing that they open themselves to criticism beyond what an "average Joe on the street" (or Internet bulletin board) would expect. It's just how the world works, I think it's common knowledge.
The not-so-subtle implication in Karin's Texas comment was that Texans are largely conservatives / Bush supporters, and that's scary. At least, that's how I took it. But I knew it was a joke! And so was the picture.
