so if you were to put together the best stuff for a picnic what would it be? (and i mean everything...from the main course to drinks and dessert).

oh and any picnic related suggestions are welcome!
Lynne
You can NEVER go wrong with brownies!!

: )

What kind of picnic? Family fun or romantic?
d.
my picnics always have wine, fruit, cheese, a baguette and a book. these are a must.

if it's a night picnic, sparklers are also necessary. smile.gif

ooooh, a night picnic! this is a great idea. although it could turn into a picnic for the mosquitos. maybe the sparklers would scare them away. and i do have sparklers!

Lemonade is a must, preferably pink.
FloridaGirl
Ditto on the pink lemonade.

Well, you've got to have sandwiches, of course, or something to make them with. I'd take d.'s baguette and make some sandwiches with basil (huge fresh leaves), tomato, and brie. (Mozzerella would be an acceptable substitute for the brie, if you're poor like me.) Maybe other sandwiches that had some cucumber in them somewhere.

Fruit is also a must. Grapes are probably the most portable (nothing to throw away), but apples or pears would be good for fall or spring. Or maybe peaches, if you're feeling a little decadent. smile.gif

Dessert would be cookies or brownies. You don't want to be lugging pie about, no matter how good it is.

Deb will have to advise you on the wine, since my knowledge of the vine is fairly limited. But these are my two cents.
coldteablues
Giant green olives stuffed with feta cheese - preferable sun-dried tomato feta.

When I was a kid we would have cold fried chicken, pasta salad and pringles

This thread got me thinking about what sort of picnic foods would be good for a crisp autumn day. Here's what I've got so far.
  • A big fat thermos of hot chocolate or apple cider.
  • Some kind of spicy muffins, maybe applesauce or banana nut.
  • Some kind of finger food that would stay warm, like a calzone.
  • A bunch of round, juicy apples. My picks would be Fuji, Macintosh, and Granny Smith.
Other ideas?
