Wow.
This was an amazing show.
I'm a huge fan of CJ's and yet this was only my second live show.
I guess I live in the wrong part of the country.
I have, however a boatload of their bootleg shows and I'm proud to say last night's show in Boulder was the BEST EVER. I NEED that recording...somebody!
There was magic in the room. The crowd loved them and showed it and I felt the band and Margo responded with a spectacular set of music drenched in love.
I will admit, the new album 'One Soul Now' has not been my favorite of all the CJ albums to date.
But, believe me....the show last night was a true mix of all the albums and the one's chosen from the new album were miraculously the very ones I loved.
Their rendition of 32:20 was mindblowing...it seemed to go on for 20 mins...what a jam....Mike, Jeff, Alan and Jaro seriously nailed that one to the floor.
The sound was so deep and penetrating, I could feel it in my very bones.
Favorite selections were I'm So Open, Tired Eyes, Close My Eyes, Pale Sun, Why This One, 32:20, Good Friday and of course my forever favorite, Sweet Jane. I will never tire of them singing that song and last nights rendition was intoxicating.
Margo was so loving and personable with the audience...she told us how much she appreciated our quietness during her songs and still, we tore the house down after each one.
As usual, she was so gracious to meet a huge crowd after the show in the lobby. I don't know where she pulls all that energy from...the tour schedule has been a show just about every night for several nights, yet you would never guess it from this fresh and vibrant performance.
This is a great venue and they fit in perfectly.
Note to self: Do everything possible to get OTR to come to Boulder. We will give them the same hearty open arms welcome.

trudes, glad it was a great show. i'm seeing them again on monday night in indy, my second time around on this tour (unfortunately, this one is not in a "theatre" setting). the last time i saw them in cinti it was truly an amazing night of music also. as you said "32:20 blues" was amazing in cinti, too bad you didn't get "isn't it a pity", that alone was worth the ticket price & "why this one" my fave from the new record and is great live.
i agree they are on a pretty grueling schedule and i'm amazed how they pull it off night after night, i am hoping they are ready to blow it out on monday since they are taking about 10 days off after that show.
thanks for the great review, can't wait to see the pics.

Wow Trudy, great review and double great pics...! I like this longer haired Margo, it's a nice look. Then again, I don't think there's been a Margo look I haven't liked.

Great pics, Trudes. Between your review here and Jason's on the CJ board, it sounds like this was one excellent show; not that I'm complaining about the show in Cincinnati. I'm glad you had an excellent time.
I'm also very jealous of Bill & his upcoming concert schedule.

The following is a quote from the Cowboy Junkies Tour Diary page.
Written by Mike Timmins (song writer, lead guitar):
Long Journey Home. Boulder, August 27, 2004
This has always been one of our favourite little towns although it's not so little anymore. It's more like a very large and very wealthy suburb of Denver. It is amazing how much it has changed over the past ten years.
I woke up today feeling very ill. It was like my body had decided that enough was enough and it had decided to shut down for the day. Unfortunately I couldn't completely shut down because Margo and I had a radio appointment at KBCO. We did our bit and I headed back to the hotel to try and trick my body into thinking that I was paying attention to it. It didn't work. I felt like crap all day.
The gig tonight was at the Fox which is right in the heart of the University district. This is the first weekend back for the students and there was a bit of a welcome-back carnival going on along the main drag. It had all the makings of a very geese-filled night. As it turned out it was one of the best audiences that we have had. It was a very, very crowded club tonight and it was remarkably quiet: completely still and attentive for the acoustic set and then enthusiastic and excited for the electric set. Sometimes an audience makes the show: tonight was one of those nights.
Tonight we said goodbye to Jason who heads off to Hawaii in a few days to start the next chapter of his life. Jason has been a fixture at shows in these parts for many moons. He is also one of the original Llamas. I'm sure he will keep in touch with us all, through the Message Board. We wish him all the best and we hope to see him on the islands sometime soon.
