Thanks Karin and Linford. Awesome.

Nevermind..I just read it.

Wow! My first time hearing too!!!
I've had it on repeat for the past 15 minutes...and I've finaggled all of my vet student colleagues into downloading it instead of studying...

I'm wondering the same thing - maybe the Love Offering Ebay sight.

I think the guitar's dropped a whole step and he's playing in A, which would make it in G. Any thoughts from people who were there or have tried it on their own?

Does anyone else see a similarity to Tom Green's "Bum Bum song?" Ahem, get the poo off my bum! I need the poo, offf my bum.

Especially since I'm not really ever planning on living in Ohio or being a parent.

THESE GUYS ARE GENIUSES!
I"ve been listening to this song all day
and i noticed that it sounds really good
with "Put the Lime In the Coconut"
"Poop in the poddy,
i said , 'doctor, is there nothing i can take...' "

I just got the mischeviously delicious mental image of 50,000 Ohio pre-schoolers singing "Poop in the potty/Poop goes in the potty" to their teachers.

It's cute the first couple of times listening to it, but I doubt it will get heavy airplay from me.
It sure ain't "If I'm Drowning"

Finally, my son, who is 4, and I can relate (at some level) to OTR. OTR moves my soul, and can help my kids move their bowels. Though it may not be my favorite, it was a joy to see my son so excited and to hear him giggle!!!

I don't think it's something to be taken seriously.
It's just a novelty, I wouldn't put it up against "real" OTR songs...it's just silly fun.
Jeanne

I think it'll always make me smile, just because I was among the first (and perhaps only) two audiences to hear it played live. The total surprise of it the first night, and then being in on it the second night when it got sprung on the folks who missed the show the night before.
All you folks who yelled out "MP3 of the month!" at Canal Street got your wish.

I like the extra verse about the Weimerauner (sp?). Especially now that I'm dog-sitting.

"It's a sad ol' world ... when yer squeaky don't squeak ..."

It's not even that. It's something else. I mean I can appreciate a silly song as much as the rest of 'em, and I'm okay with spoken word. Jack's Valentine is a great song. And the pseudo-rap on Nobody Number One rocks. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but I just don't like it.
Maybe I'll change my mind after I hear it more than one time.

I
totally thought they were joking about actually recording this!
What a riot!!

The kids are priceless, but I miss the Zeppelinesque intro.
"...hey!"

Jul 18 2004, 02:05 PM
A Zeppelinesque intro? Sure, Zep may have had "Stairway To Heaven", The Beatles may have had "Hey Jude" and Gerardo may have had, well, "Rico Suave", but with this one flushes all others down the toilet...so to speak. "The Poopsmith Song" is not only Over The Rhine's magnum opus, but it is the magnum opus of all magnum opuses. Bravissimo!

There is something truly devilish about making such a catchy tune about poop! My wife and I walk around humming it all day, just waiting for someone to say, "Hey, that's a catchy tune. What's the song?" Oh brother!

Just go to
http://www.overtherhine.com/music/mp3rarity/index.html , click and hold until the menu pops up, the select "Save link target as..." to download. Doubleclick the file once it's been downloaded, and it should open in I-Tunes, unless you have another mp3 player selected as your default.

searched my iTunes to get the song quickly. I'm happy to report that "The Poopsmith Song" is the only track in my library with "poop" as a keyword.
Heh... The English Beat's "Save It For Later" came up next in the shuffle play.

Anyone know how protected this song is? Like I mean, the file itself? My mp3 player does not seem to like protected files. I s'pose I could always just burn it to a cd and rip it back on to my hard drive, like I do whenever I buy something off of Itunes, lol.

I have not noticed any protection on these MP3s. I have played them on multiple computers with multiple players without out a problem.
