I'm not a big TV guy... Actually, I used to be... until I realized that I was wasting my entire life. So my wife and I don't even have TV any more... We get DVDs occasionally, but we aren't even up on the latest shows.
EXCEPT The Amazing Race. I've never missed an episode, since the series began... Last night was the season premiere. We actually got a babysitter so we could go to our friends' house and watch... complete with popcorn and drinks! Now, as they have for the past several years, they'll tape the shows for us every week.
Anyone else watch?

YES!!
We were watching Nip/Tuck last night so we taped AR. I hope this will not be a conflict every week...but I guess that's what VCRs/DVD recorders/TIVO is for.
We'll be watching tonight.
Christine...(platypus)..according to the TV Guide, one of the contestants is from Shenandoah PA!

Yay! I love this show. it might be the best reality show ever. (sorry, Survivor.) This crop of racers seems a bit . . . dim, no? So many people fell/walked right past the flag/missed the clue box completely that it was pretty entertaining.
Best moment of the episode has to be the image of Charla (the dwarf) carrying that damn side of beef or whatever it was on her shoulders ...
I'm so glad other people are watching this

Warning...Stiv and Matt...SPOILERS!!!
OK, we watched it from tape last night.
Woo!!
I really like the cousins (with the dwarf). It seems they are the underdogs because of the dwarf's physical limitations but man they have spirit and determination! The cow part was hilarious.
My favorites are the two models...just cuz the guy is so damn HOT! Wooo!
I don't care for the two Texas creeps...sexist bufoons.
Too bad about nice guy...I guess they really do finish last.
Twins seem like bi*ches to me.
Felt sorry for Old military guy and daughter but they are keeping up.
I would have absolutely chosen ZIPS instead of CHIPS...how 'bout you? It looked like FUN.
Has anyone else chosen favorites yet?

I guess I'd have to say that my faves so far are Chip and Kim (I think that's their names - they were the ones who arrived at the pit stop first, but had to return for the route marker) since they're from this area, along with the ex-military guy and his daughter.
There are only two teams getting on my nerves so far: the team that's in 1st place so far (they're always arguing with each other), and the cousins (the dwarf is fine with me - especially since she's taking advantage of people's assumptions that she's helpless - but her cousin just struck me as incredibly whiny).
ZIPS instead of CHIPS, no question. I've bungee jumped off a 320 ft. high bridge, so taking a zip line into a pool wouldn't be a problem.
This is really a fun show. My brother thinks that he and I should try to get into next season's race.

That is the only reality show you could pay me to do. No, scratch that. I'd love to do The Mole. I'm an excellent liar.
I've watched every season of The Amazing Race, even though I hate it SO DAMN MUCH because it's so stressful. I don't even get all that involved and it still robs me of all my energy. I swore after season 3 I'd never watch it again, but then I stumbled across season 4's premeire and I'm hooked again.
I always root for the underdogs, and they always, well, lose. But this time I like pretty much everybody. Especially those cousins. They're hilarious.

That's funny, because I'm finding myself hating almost everyone. Except, I don't really hate the soccer moms or Chip and--Kim? I think that's her name. Oh, and the internet dating couple.
I was kind of rooting for the cousins before, but ... that whole 'I need a doctor' ploy to get on the flight in last night's episode turned me sour on them. Also? Their Spanglish is the worst thing I've ever heard! ("We needo el boato")
Such a great show though. Sometimes I'm distracted by how much work must go into all the logistics of setting up everything--all those challenges and travel and stuff in all those countries!

I'm kinda surprised that no one's commented on last night's caviar consumption. With the other things I've seen them have to do in the past I've laughed about it all, but I genuinely felt sorry for those people last night.
Anyway, for those of you who think you'd like to be on
The Amazing Race, here are the
details.

The caviar eating and ostrich egg eating as well as the chocolate tasting have really been relatively not too bad considering what they've had to eat in the past. Or, what Survivor contestants have to eat.
At this point I'm rooting for Chip and Kim...they seem to me to be the kindest and most all around even tempered team. His generosity bit him in the butt, though, when he didn't have enough money due to the tip he left.
Colin shows his true colors more and more. What a jerk! He seems to be a know it all and mean. Too bad he didn't just get his ace thrown in jail....
I like the new part about the teams that are spared from elimination get some punishment, now. It kinda weeds out those who are just coasting on luck.
I wonder how come some teams get bonus vacations at the end of legs and some don't?

The sponsors are cheap.

I imagine it would be difficult to give away trips, what, 24 times? Plus when Colin and Cristy? keep winning we don't want them having all the trips...

I know what you mean by how stressful it is-it makes my mom and I so anxious, watching it and wondering who's gonna make it and who is going to be eliminated...I think I like Amazing Race because it is the only reality tv show where you really think about how you would/could handle some of the situations that the teams are placed in...I think, 'could I do that?' some teams are really good together under pressure, and some crumble down-it is fascinating to watch that, in addition to all the awesome places they are taken to-you just hope that the teams stop even for 30 seconds on each leg and really realize where they are-I mean, they are all over the world...how many times in a life does someone get that kind of opportunity?

Heh... I'm convinved that Colin would've gotten himself tossed in jail in Tanzania if a camera hadn't been present. That guy's got some serious issues.
Very surprised they're concluding the season tomorrow with 4 teams still remaining - should be a fun two hours though.

What has been a bit strange for me is seeing places on the show that I've already been to. Sadly though, more often than not, it winds up being the airports that I recognize more than their actual destinations.

I do not watch the show (I shy away from "reality TV" ... makes me feel as if I am not doing enough with my real life); however, I like being in pools!!
OK: I DID watch the first hour of the season premiere. And I laughed OUT LOUD when my team said something to the effect that, being models, they had traveled extensively and thus knew the "nuances" of major airports -- and then they promptly walked up to THE WRONG TICKET COUNTER at O'Hare International!!!

She either overlooked a clue or was extremely, extremely unlucky. I am going with the latter, because none of the others had *any* trouble finding their clues. I know we are all dysfunctional to some degree.
Jonathan and Victoria were about the worst case of dysfunction yet on this series that I have seen.
At first I thought it was all Jonathan.
Later, I saw Victoria had her own set of problems.
I actually felt sorry for them at the end, in a pathetic sort of way.
Not so sorry that I'm not glad they didn't win, though.
(How's that for a sentence full of negatives...?)
Hoping for Kris and John...the only couple that seems pleasant and not angry.
Betting on Freddy and Kendra, though.
