I know there are a few Whedonnites on here, anyone watch charmed? Or Angel, or anything. I'm a fairly recent come-a-long only been watching for just over a year and I'm tivo-ing all the re-runs on DBS.
When does Fred join Angel Invsetigations? TNT is showing all the old re-runs without her.
It's fun to watch Angel backwards. You know, knowing what happened on the finale, and looking at all the twists that led up to it?
Any thoughts on the plot irregularites on Angel? You either love it or hate it, right?
Anyone tempted to discuss here with me?
Any ABC newbies?

Charmed... never watched it. The commercials seem like its a "gimmick of the week" type show... its not a Jos Whedon show... doesn't mean it's not good... I just haven't seen it yet. The commercials
are really bad, though...

Cool, thanks for the 411 on Fred. I must be getting season one on TNT. The shows are from early 2001, IIRC
Yeah, charmed isn't a Whedon creation, it's good, in a different kind of way. It's not as dark, more geared for a younger target audience, I think. Plus there's the T&A factor.
I sort of find the early Buffy episodes to be cheesy.

The early buffy has a purity to it- when the jokes were still funny and buffy was still kinda childish and had chubby cheeks. I love those days. Though I love the middle years, too.
Angel is the awesome, though and Fred is my hero. I think the show really went up a notch when they expanded the ensemble to include her and Lorne. Good Call Joss!
Also, whenever you are using Awesome to describe something Joss has handled, you should say "Jossome" or "Jawesome" or something like that. Because I say so. I am trying to frindle it.
Anyone here seen firefly yet? I was thinking about giving it a try being all Joss-worthy and having Gina Torres/Jasmine/Anna Espenosa on it.

Firefly is a wonderful show. I didn't dig it
as much when it aired, mainly because Fox aired them out of order and incompletely -- so it didn't make sense.
But now that I've seen them all as they were intended...wow... well crafted show.
Joss' next project is a full-length movie,
Serenity, which will take the
Firefly story further along... it's greenlit, all the same cast and everything...
woot!

I think what Happyscout is referring to is Kingdom Hospital...only 13 episodes so far...I think was some sort of mid-season replacement...
It was pretty neat the first couple of times I watched, however I couldn't stay interested because I could not watch every week.

Has anyone ever contemplated how The Annointed One of Buffy was the only child vampire Joss ever had? Why was he the only one? What is the age cut off for vamping? Who turned him? Just wondering.
margarita
Jul 9 2004, 03:26 PM
Um....when was the annointed one a vamp?! I know he was evil and head of a bunch o' vamps, but I thought he was just supposed to be the bringer of a new "evil" era, restoring the master and such, er sumthin.... I don't remember him ever vamping out....but then maybe I need to recap the old stuff. Didn't he rise from the ashes of a bunch of people on a bus crash as per a prophecy, rather than "get turned"? er...hmmmm.... It seems like most vamps turn others for "romantic" reasons* and Joss probably didn't want to come off as a pedophile:) Plus vamp kids are weird!

Hey good point about Holstzsz's (okay, got a bit carried away) girl! I totally forgot about her. The annointed one was alive before the bus crashed and when spike "killed" him it was with sunlight-dusting. Also good point about the *romantic* thing. I remember Joss saying something about that somewhere. Man, that thing with the little girl was demented. Grrr. Bad Angel. Go sit in the corner. And Brood. Cause that is what you are good at.

On the plot lines in Buffy and Angel.
Does it bother anyone else that they skip so much time between episodes and then show you snippets of things that have happened but were not a part of any episode?
ER used to do this and it drove me CRAZY. It leaves you wondering for like eons if you've missed an episode, but you really haven't, and then by the time you figure it all out, you've already missed several key plot points in the current episode you're watching because you've only been half paying attention due to the fact that you were trying to remember in your head if you missed an episode or not.
Or is it just me.

I don't remember them doing this. I remember the "previously on" snippets, but those were actual previous episodes scenes.
I always thought that Buffy/Angel were two of the better shows on TV as far as consistant plots went. Even with the "filler" episode they kept the season story arch going.
I will say if you do miss a couple of episodes then try to tune back in you might feel lost...
Have some examples Mark?

No, I don't. I was thinking and it may just be the way the network is showing the re-runs. They seem to be in order, but they could be skipping a few. I'll check into it more and let you know.

Sniff, sigh...I miss Buffy. I've tried watching Angel a few times cause that guy is just lovely--but I was just too confused cause I hadn't seen the early ones so I've never really gotten into it.
Also, I missed Cordelia being cheerleader snob--she's just not as much fun tamed down.
And on another note: I watched Kingdom Hospital all the way through and enjoyed it, although it was cheesy and downright wacko sometimes. But fun as something completely different than the rest of the cop/paramedic/lawyer/doctor shows that are everywhere. It ended in such a way as to leave room for it to come back (it was just an extended mini-series) but I doubt that it will cause I don't think the ratings were great.
Anyone watch USA's The 4400? Interesting but ended abruptly--another one that was hoping to get longer play so they left it hanging.

The one reason I have so much trouble following Angel (and Buffy but to a lesser degree) is all the "backstory" that gets non-chalantly thrown into the story. It must be a personality flaw, but I can't just shrug it off and focus on the current episode. I drive myself crazy thinking I missed something, which is dumb, cuz they're all re-runs, and even though they should be showing them in order, one can't guarantee this.

loved, loved loved Buffy....I started watching it in it's second season, when I was in eighth grade...and it took me through high school and into college...I mean, it had monsters and lore and a wicked fight scene at the end, but when you cut to the heart of it-there was a lot of substance there, substance that was often overlooked by critics...it was this wonderfully inricate show, complete with all the characters that make up high school, and there was always someone to identify with, and when you are in high school that is comforting...it is interesting to watch the old seasons because they are nostalgic and sweet, and there is a roughness that was wonderful in its own way...at the end of the day, there was xander, will and buffy...yes, the early seasons are a little hokey, but that is part of the charm...it evolved, smoothed out, got more complicated and intricate, but by that time, regular viewers were part of it...Joss is a fantastic character developer, allowing each of the characters to grow before the viewers' eyes.
watched some of angel...i'd say the first 2 seasons, then I was at college, and tv isn't really easy to sit and watch nowadays...

How much would a Buffy/Angel full cast reunion movie rock? All the passed away cast members could be re-united through some mystical forces. The PTB could revive a couple, and then the Sr Partners could revive a couple others due to some apocalyptic catastrophe in which they were needed. Or some other more powerful "major player" for the side of good could revive them all! It would definitely be a money making film.
Bah, I'm just dreaming.

And I miss Giles & Xander!

Once More with Feeling was brilliant. Not only did they succeed in conveying whimsy an originality, but despair, conflict and story arc all set to music and within the one hour timeslot.
Season six overall is a very dark and not very comfortable ride through the Buffyverse. There were several episodes where I finished viewing and just felt very dirty and the strong need to clear my mind. That's good storytelling for TV.

I ran out of Netflix last weekend, walked into my local movie rental store and walked out w/ BtVS Season 1. I'd never watched any of it before but have only read great, great things about it starting with the old OtR mailing list. If I'm not mistaken, Ysobelle was a big Buffy fan... anyhoo, I liked it. Enough to toss Season 2 on my Netflix queue, from what I've been reading it kicks into high gear from Season 2 on. And my goodness if David Boreanaz isn't über-dreamy (I think finally seeing Bones helped with the Buffy S:1 rental as well). I'll tackle Angel after I'm done with the Buffy's. And Firefly is on the queue as well.

Let me know your thoughts on Buffy. Angel is awesome too. I wish they would have crossed over more from show to show, but being on competing networks, I can see how that would be difficult.

I'm 4 eps. in and already I'm digging Buffy Season 3 more than 1 & 2.
You sure get spoiled seeing shows in order and on DVD with no wait and no commercials.
There's definately something to be said for character development and history when you've got witty, wacked-up shows like this.
I think the whole Xander/Cordelia stuff is hysterical, I love it. It may be some of my favorite stuff with this show.
I really liked the Giles/Jenny potential, it sucked when she went bye-bye. He's a very handsome man and that geeky thing is hot with him. Even hotter when we get little flashes of him losing his temper or what a badass he actually is so I hope he eventually gets a gal.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Angel (Cordelia too, right?) departs and gets his own series - I'll be taking some excellent advice (rock on, margarita) and renting Angel and Buffy S:4 coincidingly (if that's not a word, it is today).

Hey Michelle-
I'm just getting into Buffy lately, also, after years of mild interest from a distance. So far I've seen seasons 1&2, and I've requested season 3 from the public library. They're actually really good about buying things that people request, so I'll probably be able to keep this kick going for awhile, maybe make it more of a lifelong fling.

I'm checking into the books, too, though there are a ton of those.
I like how the show can be appreciated on several levels, with the action and humor and "shiny vampires" balancing the depth of issues of love, integrity 'n' stuff. Very irreverent and fun, and I find myself really caring for the characters.
