For those of you who have never seen this and wanted too, now's your chance. For those of you who haven't seen it and don't care, give it a view or two for shits&giggles. It'll be on regular cable so why not?

Also interesting as we've brought this up in chat a few times is how SatC is handing it's *editing*. Read this on cnn.com today and thought some of y'all new viewers would be interested.

Sex and the City

A few things that stood out:

QUOTE
It's been a busy stretch for TBS' editors.

In many cases, HBO did the work for them. All along, producers filmed alternate scenes and recorded alternate dialogue, with an eye toward a future syndication sale and because HBO needed a tamer version of the show for some international markets....
QUOTE
The cast has even helped out in recent months by recording new dialogue to replace swear words

QUOTE
Most television viewers have seen, or at least had access to, "Friends" or "Seinfeld," but HBO subscribers are still in the minority. TBS estimates more than 60 million viewers haven't had access to "Sex and the City."

I'll be watching it when I can out of sheer love for the show and I'm also curious to see how the edits flow. Think of it this way folks, aside from not having it at all, it's the safest Sex out there. So turn on TBS and enjoy a little Sex.
rda76
so are the shows this week favorites from over the years to get you hooked ? the commercials tonight kept saying "see it from the beginning, beginning next week" next week starts with season one, episode one ? thats what i thought tonight was going to be.

first time to see it was tonight, loved it.
kentuckiannna
I finally saw my first episode of SatC. I loved them (there were two back to back). They showed the depressed vagina episode (hilarious) and the SJP as model at charity event episode. My only beef is that SJP is a bit stiff when she narrates over. However, the writing is top notch and riddle with great one-liners. I also appreciated that the show was more than just humorous; it actually attempted to deal with real issues of single women today, such as the inclusion of discussion of "urban dating myths" tonight. I give it four and half out of five stars.

And yes rda76, according to the commercials I saw, it does start with episode one next week and moves in sequence from there, but only on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I guess the other three nights they'll mix it up.
michelle
I watched this as a repeat viewer of each of the original seasons. It was great. I'm really impressed w/ look of the editing/dubbing. And yes, the writing is very smart and very funny and I'm thrilled the cable-less are being introduced to these four very different women.

I also thought SJP's narration had that forced sound to it when I first saw the series. Next thing you know I found myself not noticing it anymore and eventually hearing her tone as very in character. It did take a handfull of episodes though. Needless to say, Anna, I'm thrilled to read "I loved them.." under a post with your nick and look forward to future comments and discussion on different episodes. I'm also happy to read that you enjoyed them as well, Roger. Yay SatC!!! smile.gif

episode: The Real Me

"you've never looked at your vagina!?"

"i think it's... ugly..."

"no wonder it's depressed."
Aaron
I have not seen the show too much, but from what I've seen, I think I like SJP better in square Peg, lol.
rda76
i had no clue there were four characters, something like a Generation X version of the golden girls, i thought it was all about sarah/carrie. which one is your favorite, michelle ?

so much for my local 9:00 news and will&grace reruns, i don't think i'll be seeing those again anytime soon unless the the braves are on the west coast or extra innings.
michelle
QUOTE

I live in la-la land with this show and assume people know there are 4 of them. So to read that and that you really liked it is awesome. It only gets better, Roger.

Well, it's been a ride to say the least. When I first saw it I wasn't much of a Miranda fan. Too bitter and uptight and lost her hope. Then she gained a soft-spot in my heart towards the end of Season 2 (i think), and stayed there.

Then the sweet WASPness of Charlotte seemed too much for a little while. But when I thought about what Kristin Davis was doing on camera to be Charlotte, and what a great actress she is, I started laughing with her and really enjoying the trials and tribulations of Charlotte York.

Carrie I enjoyed from the begining - didn't agree with some her choices and wanted to give her a couple "Snap out of it!" wacks throughout the series, but I always enjoyed her.

Samantha... Oh, Samantha. I think it's safe to say she's my favorite. Not so much cause she's the raunchiest, but because since day 1 of that show she was 120%, unapologetically, and confidently, Samantha. ...and she's the raunchiest. tongue.gif

One of the things I really love about this series is that they remain their characters yet they grew and came full circle by series end. And whatever the subject matter is of each show and what happens to those ladies, my favorite parts are the coffee shop gatherings. The conversations, looks, one-liners and feelings that are in pretty much every gal-pal luncheon gathering are simply awesome. I love that each of them are totally unique and unlike the three they're playing against. And that those differences come across totally believeable and genuine. Even when they disagree or argue there's a very strong acceptance of each other. It's the foundation of the show.
Trudes
My favorite I think is Carrie.
Charlotte is so sweet, but her head is in a different place than mine. (Marriage, status, properness)
Samantha I love, but sometimes it seems just a tad far out for me.
Miranda was kinda too serious or businesslike or something, even though there are qualities in her I really like. I don't think a baby had a place in this show, but I must say they handled it quite well. (Babies are notorious for jumping the shark).
Carrie was the one I related best to except for her love of shoes and some of the outrageous outfits.
kylie jo
no one really asked, but....

i think i like Carrie the best. i love her humor! however, i *do not* agree with her on the whole Aiden thing. he was soooo cute! (after he cut his hair... and his personality changed a little too) i loved when she would come home and he'd say, 'where ya been, who'd ya see, what'd ya hear?' or whatever. hehe... i'm pretty sure i would marry him.

but i truely love all the girls.
michelle
Wow, I like Miranda's shoes in that pic. Nice fancy strappy puppies. Cute.

NOT POSTED FOR THE TENDER

i love, love, love this show even against my descion BEFORE ever seeing an epi to not like it (i've grown up a little with the ladies).

love the coffee houses -- wish i had coffee loveing friends to meet up with every saturday.

faviorite lines:

"miranda went out with an over eater and he over ate her..."

to charlotte: : "you can't date mr. pu**y"

also about charlotte: " charlotte saw god 7 times that night..."

ahh - may have to pull out a dvd before the end of the evening.

i'm a heathen,
zayne

Last night's second episode was HILARIOUS. It was the episode where Charlotte has to deal with her boyfriend asking her for anal sex. I LOVE the way they handled that, because most sexually active women have to deal with it sooner or later. And it's hard to talk about, ya know? But they handled it beautifully.

FTR, anal sex just ain't my thing. WTF is that all about? I just don't get it...
michelle
Man, the quotes in that episode alone are too fabulous.

I love when the taxi driver slams on the brakes...

Charlotte: "What was that?!"

Carrie&Miranda: " A Preview!"

MUahahahhaa!
michelle
Hey, where is this at right now? What happened on last weeks episodes?
zayne
funny this *bump* came up.
part of this weekend was spent introducing a friend to the girls. a couple of us got together, drank margaritas, and let the dvd player do it's thing.

john corbets scene were constantly met with..umm...lots of appreciation.

damn, is that one fine man!
zayne

Dude, I could kick Carrie's ACE for doubting Aidan. What a sweetie he is! I wish I could have him... sad.gif

Geez I am so effed up in the dating department...tv characters. Bah!

YAY! Margarita is happy too!
We don't have HBO and started watching the series on DVD a few months back. We borrowed them from Dan's colleague and watched them on an average of 1 or 2 a night. Then, suddenly, there were no more to borrow! I've been hanging for far too long!

the tbs version of the series finished up this week. i totally did not expect to fall for this show. i remember all the hoopla a few years back over finale, the viewing parties etc, and just planed on watching an episode or two in the beginning to see what it was all about. i don't think i missed a single show.

i was just a little disappointed with the ending. i thought it was all very predictable. miranda (who grew to be my favorite), her finale seemed to happen a few weeks ago with marrying steve and moving to brooklyn. i expected charlotte to get pregnant, or mabye a double whammy adoption/pregnancy ending.

for those of you that followed the originals, how much was missing on the tbs version ? did they mostly cut out sex scenes or was part of the storyline edited as well ? there were several times i remember thinking 'there must have been more to that...' the first example that comes to mind was several weeks ago when charlotte's dog won the dogshow. something seemed missing with charlotte and the judge.

glad to see its starting over next week with episode 1. i'll be watching, again. and thanks, michelle, for putting the starting date in the thread title, i was trying hard to remember when it began.
rda76
So whats John Corbett/Aidan Shaw doing these days ? Singing country-rock. These were taken last night at the Exit/In as he opened the Billy Block's Western Beat show. His cd is complete but he's still deciding whether to go independent or sign with a major label. He said after the huge success of MBFGW and the monetary payoff, he's seriously considering going the independent route.

He's also looking alot like a sweaty Jesus. keep your panties off the stage ladies, please.

Because the ratio of indulgence depends on the person and thing they are indulging in... one day, oh, on day, I WILL own this and not see it as an extravagance, but as a... necessity. That's right, a necessity.

20 discs, Bee-Yoo-Tee-fool packaging and if I'm not mistaken, a per episode guide making it so so fabulously easy to find "that one" episode you were looking for w/out popping in different DVD's trying to find it if it's one you don't know the title of.

Oh, mercy.
zayne
YES!!!!

ps - i still need to get season 6 (all of it on dvd)

i'm a faithful SatC on TBS watcher.

I heart the girls. smile.gif
michelle
I was in COSTCO yesterday looking for the fabu pink velour gift pack that they had for $142.95 last time I saw it there.
Sadly, they were out. But I did see that they had pretty much every season in, and for $15.99 each.

Again... $15.99 each. I've never seen them cheaper than $19.99 a season on sale. So if you're collection's lacking and you don't want to go the gift pack route, get to yer local COSTCO!

Only way to find out is to rent a disc sometime.
I absolutely love, love, love this show. I've lost count at how many times I've seen each episode.
Like everything, it's not for everyone - but you never know... imagine you rent it, dig it and wind up watching the whole series.
It's definately worth a rental, that's for sure. smile.gif

*sigh* It's finally mine... Arrived today and it's lovely. Just lovely. wub.gif

Thanks to the eBay seller - I thought I'd have to wait for it to reappear at Costco. Total score.

Big is back... and will be on set in September for the Sex & the City movie for release in 2008.

This is weird. I love (LOVE) this show and the idea of the movie with all the gurlzzz being done and coming out 4 years after the series ended has me excited, no doubt, I'm just really hoping it's actually... good. Y'know? I'm not dwelling on it, just hoping. Hoping the SatC movie works and is as satisfying as say, Serenity was for Firefly, The X-files was for X-files...

We shall see...

I know exactly what you mean. The writers have to be able to bring it all to the movie screen and somehow not cheapen the whole experience. It is a tall order. I can't wait to see the movie though!!

Oh, oh, oh!! Please let this be true!

Jennifer Hudson Joins "Sex and the City" Movie

Having won her Oscar, Jennifer Hudson is thankfully not content to rest on her laurels and/or fade into eventual obscurity. Variety is reporting that the Dreamgirls diva has joined the cast of the feature-length film based on "Sex and the City." Here's more:

Hudson, who's in final negotiations, will portray the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw. Pic revolves around the lives of the four main "Sex and the City" characters, four years after the time frame of the finale of the HBO series, which wrapped its six-year run in 2004.

I 'love' that it'll be in the present as well. I don't remember w/ who, but I had a convo with someone about that... are they going to continue where they left off or be in the now. I'm all for the now. Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes!! Bring it. BRING IT!

OMG, Michelle (et al) we have so been called out by my 13 year old daughter. See, Jake hates the show, and he's always bitching about it whenever we watch it. Anyway, so today he's trying to indoctrinate my daughter and asks if the show wouldn't be more interesting if the ladies were more "real." To which my daughter replied, "No. They're so grown up women can play with Barbies."

First: Ouuuuuuch!
Second: Daaaang, my girl is brilliant.

Just thought I'd share.... biggrin.gif

I'm so excited for the movie.

I think I have five pieces of the SJP/Bitten clothing line, now... and I just love it and her and SatC. wub.gif
